Nageotte’s up, but you probably already know that. Melvin says he won’t mess with the rotation — c’mon, Bob, Meche is awful! — so it’s off to the bullpen. If this really is just a move to get Mateo some rest, I would have rather brought up, say, Scott Atchison instead of Nageotte. No reason to disturb his regular starts. Yeah, Atchison isn’t on the 40-man, but they could have easily made room by simply using McCracken’s spot. In any event, if they somehow manage to get some good innings from their starters this weekend, it’s entirely possible Nageotte goes back down on Monday without having thrown a single pitch in the majors.
From the Times: Nageotte needs work (scroll down; it’s the second item).
So, apparently he’s not being moved to the bullpen after all. Also, this seems like quite a bit of quoting Melvin, who 1. Isn’t Nageotte’s manager, and 2. Isn’t a development guy.
M’s v Boston!
Today, 4:05, RHP Pineiro v RHP Martinez. Ummmm, I know Pedro hasn’t been Pedro this year so much, but when I was watching yesterday’s game and saw that matchup I thought “well, that’s the end of that”
Saturday, 10:15 am, RHP Garcia v RHP Wakefield. This could be an interesting game. Anything with knuckleballers is cool. I fully expect a whifftastic hacktacular from the M’s, but will Garcia continue to shine and make this a game? Why they gotta be putting games on early when I can’t enjoy a beer until the late innings?
Sunday, 11:05 am, RHP Franklin v RHP Schilling. Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah. I’m guessing 8-2 Red Sox. If Schilling shows up with decent control he’s going to carve the M’s up like a delectable turkey. Mmmm, turkey.
So look forward to seeing the M’s get their ass handed to them by a team only a little ahead of them in revenues but way, way ahead of them in smarts.
I don’t know if everyone’s seen this already, but Cubs leaked that they’re not interested in Aurilia, which could be bad news for us or just a negotiation position.
