Woo hoo! Home-field advantage in the World Series!

David Andriesen puts out a good column in the P-I today. He quotes support-neutral Won/Loss records, uses the increase in extra base hits to show reduced outfield defense, and talks about the return on investment that other teams are getting from Vlad Guerrero, Ivan Rodriguez, and Migeul Tejada, compared to the Mariners offseason signings.

For as frustrating as this season as been, we can take solace in the fact that the blogosphere has become a moderately respected resource for the classical journalists. We’re making inroads, and honestly I’m surprised at how well the “seamhead” opinions are being received in the media. That’s a pretty nice silver lining in this dark cloud.

Things I’d Like to See the M’s Do in the Second Half:

  • Give Justin Leone a good chunk of playing time at 3B
  • Not push Felix Hernandez any further up the chain
  • Try to move Randy Winn, making room for Jeremy Reed
  • Get Mike Myers and Ron Villone off the roster and stick Franklin back in the pen along with George Sherrill
  • Let Travis Blackley and Clint Nageotte take their lumps the rest of the way
  • Improve the defense behind Blackley and Nageotte, even if it means Luis Ugueto or Ramon Santiago goes 0-4 at SS each night
  • Find a taker for Dave Hansen, giving at-bats to Bucky Jacobsen and/or AJ Zapp the remainder of the year
