Linking up and site warning

DMZ · August 22, 2004 at 6:33 pm · Filed Under Site information

Service bulletin: I’m going to swap over to the USSM 2.1 template tonight, so if you log in and see the page all half-gussied up, apologies in advance for any inconvenience. Here at the U.S.S. Mariner labs, we never stop innovating… for you!

Also, I’ve finally gone through and gotten us up to date on the M’s blogosphere. A bunch of new ones, and a lot of dead ones pruned. Here’s how it went:
– updated recently (like, say, the last two weeks)?
– is this blog primarly or mostly about the Mariners, unless we’ve been linking to it for ages anyway, like the Bremertonians?

Otherwise, no link in the M’s blogosphere section. Now… this means that I skipped some that I like personally (like Bob Mong’s, for instance, which sometimes has really good M’s stuff) and may eventually go into another links section. But not right now.

Update 8:50pm: USSM 2.1 template’s up. Incremental changes to follow, but that’s the big one.

Update midnight: I spent way too much time on this this weekend. Last set of changes for the night published, and that’s all for now.

I’m not sure how different you are planning on making it, but nice job so far! But if you are keeping the white background and the same font, my one request is LEAVE THE GRAY BOXES!

By that I mean, Keep the gray boxes…

I love finally being able to comment. I am probably just going to annoy the heck out of you, but oh well.

David, we may just have to start charging you a monthly bandwidth fee. If you see a bill show up at your home in the near future, don’t be surprised.

Seriously, though, I hope we can keep comments around. It cuts down dramatically on the amount of email we get (and unfortunately can’t respond to), and thinks like the Meche conversations are just really good additions to making this site more than just Derek, Jason, and I agreeing with each other all the time.

Comments have worked well on the P-I board for so long, I don’t see why they shouldn’t work well here. But honestly, I can finally discuss what you talk about, which I enjoy. I have gotten warped into the Mariners Official site fan forum (big mistake) and can’t manage to get out of it. This is fine, except nobody knows baseball there.

If you need me to send you my address for the bill, thats fine. But I will probably cut back once the excitingness wears off, and the comments become taken for granted.

Also, I just have a suggestion.

Get a paypal thing, and take donations. This would help offset some of the cost of running this site. I would gladly donate to the cause.

On behalf of Sports and Bremertonians, I’d like to say thank you for keeping us linked. Our referrer logs consistently indicate that we do get a crapload of hits from the USSM, and I can only assume that the hits are logged in the pursuit of Mariner information/analysis/complaint, etc, given where they’re coming from.

Again, Sports and B’s passes along thanks and praise for keeping us linked. Keep up the good work, and good luck with version 2.0, surely a new frontier for the USS Mariner.

Leone for Third also extends its thanks for keeping us linked as well. The new website looks great so far and the comment boxes seem to be a big hit. Keep up the good work guys.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I found this headline on ESPN hilarious.

“Bloomquist’s first HR in 13 months helps M’s win”

Thanks for keeping me linked as well, though my recaps have been untimely of late and my non-recap content sporadic. I suppose it happens to all bloggers at some point.

I do like the new format, as it seems to organize things well… but more so, the comments! Not only do they look good, they’re providing for interesting debate, which is a plus considering this is undoubtedly the most visited M’s blog.

The site looks fantastic. I have really appreciated your site for a while (too bad there isn’t something like this for the Sonics :[). If you are considering a donation thing please let me know. Thank you very much.

Yes, the brand new USS Mariner looks solid.

    Stay classy, gentlemen.

Ditto on the Paypal format. Been reading you guys for awhile now and come here at least once a day. Great job as always…..

Big thanks from Tom at Mariners Analysis for the link. Love the new site, and look forward to seeing everyones comments.

I also appreciate the no-ad environment, and worry about your bandwidth bill. Let us know if this becomes a problem and we will be glad to help out the best site for Mariner fans.
