Games 30, 31, Mariners at Red Sox
Early start for the first game of this split double-header.
Game 1: RHP Pineiro v RHP Jeremi Gonzalez. 9am, FSN
Game 2: RHP Franklin v RHP Wade Miller. 2pm, KSTW-11
Continuing stories: Boone still is shy of 1,000 RBI. 5 Mariners have played in every game.
From the MLB.com preview:
“That tells me that we have guys trying too hard. That’s the thing we have been telling them, to relax and be who you are. The key is to be patient and have it happen, sooner rather than later.” — Mariners manager Mike Hargrove on his hitters having two walks over a 24-inning stretch
Ichiro has two more intentional walks than Beltre has walks.
Ichiro also has two more unintentional walks than Beltre has walks.

Intangible groundout. (sigh) All these intangible outs lead to one big tangible headache…
#250: What’s so unreasonable about wanting a HR in every AB?
250:
Haha, I think that your average Sox fan is even worse than your average Mariners fan in that regard. We’re certainly MUCH less forgiving.
I really enjoy the philosophy of Valle/Rizzs. Bah.
Looks like JJ has a glove.
BTW, I watched enough games in Fenway years ago to know they’re not plaing in rain. That’s industrial haze we’re looking at. No one plays baseball in the rain.
Putz looks sharp.
Boy Putz is throwing much better then he was at the start of last year. Makes Varitek look terrible then gets two weak tappers back to the mound.
Makes me sad we have to call in Eddie for the 9th.
Varitek was probably looking for something inside, and didn’t get it.
Whooo, nice snag by Embree.
Must be a magnet under the pitcher’s mound attracting the nickle-iron core of the baseball.
#258: When batting left handed, Varitek cannot turn on a good fastball (it sucks to get old), and Putz has a very nice fastball.
Is Bellhorn sporting prayer-locks?
Everyday “Heart Attack” Guardado gets the ball….time to hold on tight.
Can someone explain why Francona was willing to let Embree face Sexson and Beltre when the M’s were up by two runs in the 9th, but not when it was a tie game in the 7th?
here we go…

For that I have no answer…
In other news, I hate Foxwoods comercials. Anyone watching the NESN broadcast (it sounds like a few of you are) knows what I’m talking about.
Rizzs can’t read a thermometer.
So, about this plastic/wood/whatever foul line – if you step on it with spikes, don’t you slip? It must have some give in it.
AND Bellhorn does the other thing that he does best…
one
Val: “expecially.” It’s so hard to pronounce that correctly, right?
two
At least make him THINK he has to swing…
Whoa Eddie.
Spoke too soon. YEAH EDDIE!!!
Well, that was relatively painless.
So why don’t they outline the batter’s boxes with that plastic stuff to stop Ortiz from creeping closer to the plate?
Yay. Maybe some guys will get a day off now.
And there it is. Good pair of games today M’s fans. Thanks for putting up with me, I tried to not be too much of a pain in the rear.
I lurk here a lot because I used to live in Seattle, still follow the Mariners a little, and like the people here. Much more reasonable/thinking than the folks on most sports forums. The Seattle PI forum is a joke, and the Boston Globe one isn’t much better. The Sons of Sam Horn guys are really the only Sox forum I’d be interested in contributing to, but they’ve got a strict limit on the number of members and who joins, so… yeah. I decided to come here for the M’s/Sox games.
Thanks for having me, I may be here for the series next week, but that’s probably a bit less likely, as west coast games don’t really work too well for me time wise (I live in London). As it is, it’s already 1:15 AM here.
Night all.
Well, if they can beat Halama and Claw Meridith, they can beat RJ, right? Right?
#279 Yes most likely all our lefthanded hitters against Randy Johnson.
#283: Starting at LF, SS, CF, DH: Willie Bloomquist*4. (Remember playing “invisible man” baseball with one player on each side when you were a kid?)
#245– Jon Wells said:”3 hits (2 doubles) for Wiki. The guy’s been rotting in the minors the past 2 seasons.”
Jon, I hope you are being humorous or ironic or something…

#272– LB said”Val: “expecially.†It’s so hard to pronounce that correctly, right?”
hey, it’s pronounced all correct if you are in Queens, ok?
I didn’t see any other posts related to it and had to point it out. This has to be the best day of Wiki’s professional life. He stood on second and didn’t attempt to take third on a fly caught in the outfield. Kudos from the broadcast crew. Is this great or what? The “laziest man in baseball” received TONS of positive feeback for NOT MOVING! And a great day at the plate. What a day for WG.
Re: fair vs foul. The foul line is apparently made of wood (according to the M’s broadcasters). The ball took a bounce toward the stands when it hit. There’s no way that ball could have taken that hop unless a portion of it hit the foul line.
Fair ball!
Re: (# 268 and many other #s) THE FOUL LINE – Sometimes it’s very difficult for an umpire to determine if a ball is fair or foul, but if it hits exactly on the line (which is a fair ball), it will kick up chalk, and that helps the umpire make the call.
Not having this aid, this chalk line, makes it more diffcult for the umpire, and engenders more controversy.
It seems strange that that the umpires have accepted this condition.
About that NESN feed last night. It was good to see Hazel Mae, again. Last season she worked for Rogers in Toronto, doing general sportscasting and hosting a Blue Jays show every week.
