Sexson suspended

DMZ · June 24, 2005 at 3:37 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Two games, plus a fine (“undisclosed amount”) for “inappropriate actions in the bottom of the first inning during his club’s game against the New York Mets on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Seattle’s Safeco Field.”

He’s out tonight and tomorrow unless he appeals (and really, why bother appealing? It’s not like the Padres are a division rival and the Devil Rays are coming to town next week).

It’ll be interesting to see what happens now. Spiezio would be the obvious choice, but unless he’s suddenly activated, it’s more likely to be Hansen, but also Hargrove might use Bloomquist or Ibanez (because he likes to play the field, as you remember).

With Sexson out tomorrow, i see no reason to think we won’t at least be shutout against Peavy (if he throws a mistake, Richie’s the most likely to hit it out), with a no-hitter or perfect game being distinct possiblities. Which begs the question, at what point do you start rooting for the other team’s pitcher when he’s throwing a no hitter?

6th inning. If he gets that far, I’m all for watching a no hitter go down, even if on TV.

YMMV, Offer only valid in the 50 states, expires at Midnight. 1 per customer, no rebates implied or honored. Hope this helps.

You can’t activate somebody for a player who’s suspended. So the only way it could be Spiezio is if they send someone else down.

I am betting they just put Ibanez at 1B and leave Reed in CF. Unless the Pads have a lefthander going in this series, in which case it’ll probably be Bloomquist (I need to identify that as a joke, though the joke may be on all of us).

Everyone thought Pedro would beat the Mariners too, and then Sexson got thrown out and we won. Maybe it’ll have the same effect against Peavy.

I wished I shared your optimism Deanna. Either that or you have a wicked sense of humor.

We don’t root for a no-hitter, no matter what. Our new “hot guy” Adrian Beltre has a 7-game hitting streak going.

Will they suspend the umpire of that game for being a blazing moron?

So, uh, what did he do? I missed it :-/

Peavy will be lucky to last 3 innings tonight.

Peavy wont be throwing ANY innings tonight. May is the projected starter.

The M’s and Padres have a long, bitter rivalry. 🙂 If that’s the game I’m thinking of, with the quantum strike zone, Sexson should get a medal for calling the umpire on his roving strike zone.

I can’t recall the last time I heard of this kind of suspension. Usually the player, coach or manager gets run for the balance of the game plus a fine that the team pays and thats it. All those Blue Flaming Piniella Hat Kicking Tirades never got him run for more than the game he erupted in. Sexson must have mentioned the umps mother in an unfavorable light…

It’s all for naught, Sexson is showing as being in the lineup, so he’s appealing.

Of course he is in the lineup. I sat him in my fantasy leagues, and he promptly hit a 2 run jack. ARRGGH.
