Game 100: Tigers at Mariners
LHP Mike Maroth vs. LHP Jamie Moyer. 7:05pm, FSN and KOMO.
I’ve touched on this before, but how misleading are won-loss records? Maroth, pitching for a .500 club, has a decent 4.42 ERA but an 8-10 record. Moyer, pitching for a bad club, has a nearly identical 4.47 ERA but is 8-3. Boggle boggle.
Moyer doesn’t show up on Maroth’s list of similar players, which surprised me a bit. They’re both left-handed, they both give up homers, they both use the changeup as their out pitch… and neither guy strikes out many hitters. Maroth is listed at 6-0, 190, and Moyer is listed at 6-0, 182. I’m telling you, they might as well be the same pitcher.
Now that I’ve said that, it’ll probably be 15-0 today with one getting shelled and the other pitching a no-hitter. Game on!

200 – â… of a beer.
I still think there may be a legality issue there for Mr Corcoran. Does DJC have good ID?
It really doesn’t matter. I hardly ever drink beer. Maybe â…ž of a garlic fries. I’d be happy to buy him some… I dunno, sushi. It really doesn’t matter. It’s just baseball geeks meeting together in the fraternal spirit of the national pastime. Can ya’ dig it?
Everett was fun tonight. I saw Clement’s first hit and run as a pro.
199. Got to experience the best AC/DC cover band I ever heard at Bite of Seattle: Problem Child. Their singer sounds exactly like Bon Scott. Everything they played was during Bon’s era, although it might have been interesting to see them do For Those About to Rock or Thunderstruck. Especially since Brian Johnson does his own versions of the early classics in concert.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is official:
Richie Sexson’s shoulder is fine.
Thank you and good night.
I don’t know, Hell’s Belles is the best AC/DC cover band I’ve heard. Not the most note-perfect, but the best.
202: What kind of ID I have is none of your business. Let’s just say that I should be able to get into bars and buy beer with it.
Sexson now has more homers than any Mariner all last year (Boone had 24). He’s looking like a good bet to pass Boone’s ’03 (35) and ’01 (37), and might conceivably even make it to ARod’s ’00 (41).
Not quite MVP yet, though he’s eighth in RARP and VORP.
It’s nice to have some boom back in the order again.
2 HR, 3 BB. A good day at the office for Sexson.
