More random off-season articles
This is how low the standard for news is.
MLB.com on the “outfield corps” in their series of articles on different positions. It’s going to be one of the club’s strengths, they say. Also, Michael Morse is working on playing the outfield.
No other good local Mariner news. I guess we’re waiting on pitchers and catchers to report, and then we can go crazy for news on Johjima and Felix.
ESPN has a couple of articles on breakout pitchers/hitters and pre-season prediction-type stuff. They’re ridiculously fluffy and bereft of value, so no links.

Also, this monring, Lee Pelekoudas on KJR, saying nothing of real interest other than the Mariner party line (Everett and Lawton are the answer to not having enough LH hitting).
Times Jose Lopez was mentioned while I was listening = 0. Lots of expectation that beltre would improve, Beltre and Reed already working with Pentland, and so on.
He also made the point that instead of Franklin and Sele in the rotation this year, we have Felix and Washburn, as a rejoinder to Mitch Levy pointing out that we had a disappointing year because Meche and Piñeiro didn’t perform, so we’re relying on …Meche and Piñeiro. Also, the team seems to expect that Gil and Joel will be better because it’s a contract year for them, plus Chaves will be there. (I am considerably more convinced this could happen for Joel.)
I think Lopez didn’t come up because Mitch didn’t ask about him. I never expect to hear hard-hitting questions about baseball in that time-slot….
actually, the best thing from Lee P. in that interview was that when asked what to expect offensively from Johjima, he said they had no idea 🙂
oh, and there is some non-Mariner news — Matty LeCroy signed with the Nats, making Batgirl unhappy, the Reds fooled the Dayton Daily News by naming Wayne Krivsky their GM instead of Jim Beattie, former broadcaster Milo Hamilton throws Harry Carey waaaaaaay under the bus in his new autobiography (Larry Dierker only goes under the front wheels), and today the Anaheim name-change jury ruled in favor of the team that Benjie Molina feels treated him like a ‘piece of trash’
when do the other guys get to Peoria? wednesday????
