Mariners pitchers getting hammered

For what Safeco Field charges for a brew these days, I doubt they'll be getting *that* hammered this season.

I'm not convinced the call was that bad just because it looked like he left early on the first replay. How do we know that the replay is synced correctly?

Besides, you have to figure that A-Rod's hit scores two.

In which case the amount of evidence provided by spring training remains infinitesimal and nothing to go by. You can judge whether his arms and legs are moving correctly, that's about it.

How about that game the USA just flat-out stole from Japan? The Japanese should protest; that was the worst call I've ever seen. The Japanese player was on the bag.

Except for guys who come in after rehabbing from an injury. In that case all your mountains of evidence may not mean anything because he may not be the player he was before. Foppert, for example.

I don't think there's any more relationship between spring training pitching, especially early spring training pitching, and regular season pitching than there is with sunspots.

I think the chances that Appier, for instance, will be an effective pickup for us are exactly the same as they were before his one good outing.

In fact I think the very idea that spring training has any value at all in determining who should play for us and who should not is crap. Teams that pretend it does hurt themselves by not relying on the mountains of evidence from places that matter. Spring training is a place for guys to get back in the swing of playing baseball every day without getting hurt.

Why do I have a feeling that this will be a headline all season?
