… you still shouldn’t miss Jim Caple’s piece about Ichiro and the World Baseball Classic. Worth reading for the “filthy dugouts” line alone.

He’s right. In the US, both the players and the fans (although there is some variation between cities for the fans) are slobs, just dropping garbage everywhere even when there is a trash can right next to where they are standing or sitting. Then they have to slip and slide on it when they try to walk.

I have no idea why this is so, but it is very pervasive.

Kirby Arnold discussed the lefty quandary, with a mention of that “enticing yet frustrating mystery” Matt Thornton; Eddie pulled the 3-man lift prank on Joh and the Ms page has a Dan Wilson salute page up, with video clips, etc.

and for tonight’s WBC game, the Daily News introduces us all to Matsuzaka

    One thing caught my eye….

“Korea third baseman Bum Ho Lee rolled the ball at the Japanese star’s feet as he returned to the dugout. ”

Bum Ho Lee. This may be the best baseball name ever. My apologies to Dizzy and Daffy Dean, Coco Crisp, Milton Bradley, and Rollie Fingers. But no one can touch Bum Ho Lee. Oh, if only it was hyphenated!

If only Ho Lee was his last name, so that a roster would be:
    Ho Lee, Bum

    Re: Ichiro and filthy dugouts.

Ichiro is a neat freak. He is the Felix Unger of baseball.

DUGOUT FILTH – You mean the Mariners don’t have a dugout cleaner-upper, but do have a groundskeeper dance instructor? What is this world coming to?
