I was at the game. Couple notes:

I was way down in the right field corner and had no view of the Varitek/Sexon play at first base but still I knew they blew that call. Rather shocking.

I think Beckett has Beltre attached to two pieces of wood and a couple strings.

Why the idiots next to me feel the need to boo Pena is beyond me. I guess knowing that they Boo'ed Foulke less than 12 months since he was a World Series hero should have clued me in, but still.

I actually heard somebody yell, "You suck Manny" after he got out. Unbelievable...

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2002934508_marinotes17.html

<i>If the Mariners continue to sputter on offense, there will be changes.

The problem for manager Mike Hargrove is the limited number of changes he can make with Ichiro off to the worst start of his career on either side of the Pacific, hitting .185, and Carl Everett hitting .154.

Unfortunately, both of them are producing more than Adrian Beltre, now down to .109.

"At some point we'll move some guys around," Hargrove said after his club was topped 3-2 by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. "But it's not as simple as it may appear."

For today's 11 a.m. EST Patriots Day start, Willie Bloomquist will replace Jeremy Reed in center field, with left-hander Lenny DiNardo starting for Boston.</i>

How is it that Harrgrove manages to not only platoon the wrong player (Reed instead of Everett), but make the wrong platoon substitution as well (Bloomquist instead of Borchard)? Does he have to go to school to mismanage a roster like this?

#169 - shocker, eh?

Also see that Trost "DL" Nixon will be playing in RF tomorrow. Well, I guess at least he knows the angles.

From Ken Rosenthal's Foxsports.com column:

"Through Saturday, the Mariners' Richie Sexson was hitting .244, Ichiro Suzuki .200, Carl Everett .154 and Adrian Beltre — gasp! — .119. Catcher Kenji Johjima led the club with a .333 average, but one scout, holding a minority opinion, believes that opposing pitchers eventually will exploit Johjima's holes. "In the end, I don't think he'll hit," the scout says. "I'd be surprised if he has a very good year offensively."

Heh. During spring training, Batgirl started referring to Batista as Fatista due to his burly, Bosio-esque, never pass the buffet table empty-handed physique.

That name quickly morphed into T-Fat, and with his generally studly hitting so far (oh what we'd give for an .800 OPS out of our 3B) that has since morphed into T-Phat. Heck, he's even made <a href="http://www.bat-girl.com/archives/001432.php" rel="nofollow">Boyfriend of the Day</a> once.

I'm pretty sure TB isn't going to give up the mojo lightly. Might need to enlist Austin Powers' help.

Good points, Daves. Apparently, if Beltre wants his mojo back, he's going to have to be sneaky about it and steal it while Batista's not looking, rather than risking a confrontation.

I'm willing to be philosophical about the game. They were in this game and if not for a bad call would have gone to extra innings. (Be honest...the odds the M's win in extras at Fenway? Not. Good.)

Beckett was on his game today and there's no shame in getting shut down by a guy like that. The M's are an entertaining team so far this year and are right up there in their division. Hopefully when they start playing the dregs of the league they'll make some serious headway.

At what point do we get to harass grover for not moving k-jo up in the order?

The best hitter on the team right now is batting 7th. The next 3 best hitters are 2/3/4. In between, what do you have? A 3B who has a .100 BA and a DH spot that is mustering a .624 ops.

OPS for #5 hitters on the mariners: .281
Opponents: .813

That's just ridiculous. And beltre is getting up to the plate with runners on (19 of 42 trips) and often in scoring position (16 of 42 trips).

The team needs to fix beltre but i'd rather not lose games while he remembers how to use a bat.
