Can he start tomorrow instead of Meche? …please.

Actually I think Felix is pitching tomorrow with Meche going on Saturday.

Wow: quickly done! The Ms knew who they wanted and what the number was, at least. Now, let’s hope his arm doesn’t fall off. Onward and more-ward.

so I guess that’s better than drafting someone better and never signing them.
where does he get to play?

  5. msb on June 16th, 2006 7:26 am

Peoria, then Low A ball to see where he is?

I’m always amused by the silliness of such a press release/news story. Doesn’t the story itself, noting the press conference, announce whatever it is the Mariners have to say. Not that this is Mariners specific, but why not say “the Mariners announce they have signed Brandon Morrow. A press conference is scheduled for Friday.”

  7. Replacement level poster on June 16th, 2006 7:53 am

Churchill thinks if he even stops in Everett it’ll only be for a start or two. Most likely Inland Empire.

  8. The Ancient Mariner on June 16th, 2006 8:37 am

Because the Mariners don’t announce they’ve signed Brandon Morrow. They’ll do that at the press conference, unless of course they don’t; but as of now, certainly, they haven’t announced any such thing. Those kind of matters get announced at press conferences.

so, what, those two unnamed ‘Seattle reporters’ just ranged through the Giants clubhouse asking every player there if they’d like to play in Seattle? What did Omar & the Randinator say?

    Not at all.

In fact, we don’t even know that the Mariners have signed Morrow. We just know that they expect they will have by the time the press conference takes place.

    MARINERS SIGN FIRST ROUND PICK

The Mariners have come to terms with 2006 first round draft pick

I was going for the old & creaky angle. That Giants squad is pretty ancient.

I’m excited about Morrow. Because of Washburn, Beltre and Sexson, however, I’m not excited about him until 2010, however.

What is the timetable on Morrow, anyway? Will he be able to handle a sort of Mulder/Hudson timetable and arrive in 2008? Perhaps a more Joe Blanton-esque 2009? (I’d use a Mariners example, but I can’t think of a recent successful M’s college arm.)

  27. Jack Howland on June 16th, 2006 11:22 am

This is presumably a scouting report on Morrow which is straight off the Mariners web site. Is it possible that the Mariners will consider developing him to be a closer?

Comments: Fastball-splitter duo will be tempting for any team looking for an advanced college arm. With those two pitches, he could move to the bullpen, where he has previous experience. His weight and his diabetic condition make a relief role more possible.

he got signed really quickly. This is a good thing.

    Wherefore will he be assigned?

DJC — Dude, ya got some Vashon Island cobwebs or sumthin’? In the AP link above, they state:

The Mariners plan to have the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Morrow start at Class-A Inland Empire in San Bernardino, Calif., soon.

Not sure if they’re going to let him shake some rust off in Everett as Jason Churchill guesses, but, really, is Everett really a place to shake off rust? 😉

That was the scouting report on draft day before the Mariners got him. I don’t know who exactly it comes from, but those words should be considered from “MLB” instead of from the Mariners people.

Understood. But why would the M’s be posting this at all. It’s not the most flattering description for a #5 pick.

    Copy-and-paste is easier than analyze-and-write?

Speaking of Morrow, I believe that Andrew Miller is pitching for NC today on ESPN.

    I don’t understand this.
