Wedded Bliss Awaits

Jeff · August 4, 2006 at 10:23 am · Filed Under Off-topic ranting

Peter White is alive: I have proof.

Our prodigal author (well, the one who isn’t me) has had his proposal accepted, and the happy couple will be tying the knot next May. If I can go all style pages on you, allow me to point out that Pedro proposed while hiking with his intended in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Congrats to Peter and the future Mrs. Jackie White. Set a course, Mr. Data, for romance.

People who allow real life to get in the way of baseball geekery are in serious need of an intervention.

Where in Rocky? (Since I live next door, I’m naturally curious.)

Congrats. Good location, Peter. Had I known you were in town, I could have hooked you up with some Rockies tix.

#2 – AM, where are you in CO? We should do a regional USSM get-together (I know there are other Coloradoans on here too). Have some drinks at a bar, and if at least one or more of you don’t appear to be axe murders, we can do some other stuff down the road.

Re #3, I just realized the last part of my comments was not worded the way I had intended. Should be more like:

“#2 – AM, where are you in CO? We should do a regional USSM get-together (I know there are other Coloradoans on here too). We can plan the get together for a Sports bar or something, and if one or more of the folks that show up appear not to be axe murderers, we could try planning other events (maybe even Rockies games-if the M’s come to town next year) down the road.”

The way I had it worded before was sort of what I would expect Rick Rizzs to say when he’s trying to get a date. Not my intention at all.

Wow…I have to explain to a bunch of co-workers now why I just spit soda out of my nose..

    Congrats, guys!

    “…engage.”

why it sounds like this has the makings for one of those oh-so-romatic engagement ring commercials….

    Congrats Peter!
Nice locale as well. I too am within sniffing distance of RMNP.

    Wedded Bliss = Oxymoron

    Congrats to Peter and Jackie.

And thanks, Jeff, for causing me to remember the romance of the 90s – Data and Lt. Yar.

#12– just stay away from that oil slick!

Congrats to the soon to be newlyweds!

I’m curious as to how many people from USSM live in what areas of the country. I’m in the Seattle area, but it seems like quite a few people are in CO, and on the East Coast.

    the future Mrs. Jackie White

Uh, Miss Manners would say you are predicting that the marriage will not continue “til death do they part.” (If Jane is Mr. John Smith’s wife or widow, she styles herself Mrs. John Smith.) [/pedantry]

Congratulations and best wishes to the future Mr. and Mrs. Peter White!

I’m not so sure Miss Manners would say that anymore — customs have changed slightly.

Re #3 (and #10): literally, right next door — I live in Grand Lake, and the western entrance to the park is just a couple miles up the road.

And re #11: maybe in your experience, but not in everybody’s, by a long shot. (At least as long as you know going in there will be ups and downs, anyway.)

Wedded bliss is alive and well! Don’t let the statistics discourage you Peter. It’s hard work, but worth every bit of it.

#17 (and 10)- I’m in the Denver Tech Center /Centennial area. Maybe I’ll throw some ideas together and ask the fine USSM folks to get the word out somehow, as they see fit (if they see fit). No way I make it to the feeds, so let’s bring one to us?

  19. The Ancient Mariner on August 4th, 2006 11:40 pm

The stats are useless anyway — a percentage of apples in terms of oranges. The “divorce rate” is one of the few stats out there more worthless than fielding percentage.

You do realize, I trust, that your location description is a trifle vague. Whereabouts are you exactly?

Thank you one and all. The congratulations are much appreciated.

For the interested Coloradoans, I asked while we were sitting at Emerald Lake.

Cool! Thanks — and my congratulations as well (since I just realized I hadn’t offered them earlier).
