Conor Glassey’s got an interview with Doug Fister, M’s 7th-round pick and Aquasox reliever, up on his site. Check it out.

Tee hee hee hee.. “Fister”…

I was thinking the same thing but didn’t wanna say it. Way to take charge.
Felix “F-Her” Hernandez and D. Fister would create a solid double-team in the front-end of the rotation and the back-end of the bullpen, respectively, for the Seattle Mariners.
Doug Fister’s awesome. I was at his first start for the Aquasox, and he pitched 5 innings, striking out 9 and giving up no hits. It was beautiful. Conor’s interview is great, y’all should check it out.
I figured people were done with the name jokes back in June, though.
In the interview he said he would otherwise be an elementary teacher.
A 6’8″ kindergarden teacher named Mister Fister…
Really? This is what commenting here’s come to? How disappointing.
Thanks, Derek! Any chance you could please add StopTheWave.com to the M’s Blogosphere links? 🙂

The hell do you want? “Hey that was a great interview / read! Thanks Jesus!”? Not much to say. Fister’s a cool guy and a promising new arm in the minors. That’s about it.
Seriously, I’d have rather people didn’t say anything than make sexual jokes about his name. Like he hasn’t heard all that before. I don’t know how to put this, but unless he’s done something amazingly stupid, I think we could at least give him some modicum of respect and hold off on the schoolyard teasing.
Well, nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong. As far as I’m concerned, y’all can take that for what it’s worth.

S’not like this is all hate, y’know. But if it makes you feel better, I’ll stop poking fun at Doug Fister’s name. And if it really bothers you, you can always delete posts.
But I can’t make any promises to Nathan Adcock, Gavin Dickey, and Jeremy Beeching.
He’s the second best senior (pitcher, I assume) but he lasts until the 7th round, approx. 200th pick. Is this because most pitchers who are good go pro after their junior years and there aren’t many seniors? Is BA overly high on him?
If you come back for your senior year, it’s either because you got in a long, protracted contract negotiation that fell through or you’re not that good.
I was surprised to read in the interview that the Ms are considering moving Fister to the pen. Why would they consider moving him so early on in his development without giving him every opportunity to make it as a starter?

Well, I should have clarified – he was listed as the 2nd-best senior (not just pitcher, any player), but that was BA’s pre-season rankings. And, yeah…what Dave said.

The M’s see Fister as a starter, they just moved him to the bullpen this year because he already had a full college season under his belt. He threw 116 innings at Fresno State before coming to Everett, so they let him start a few games and then moved him into relief.
It’s the offseason (for the M’s at least) and the ensuing loss of quality commentors emboldens the others. Less signal, more noise. Hence TIF’s Butthead to Egaas’ Beavis.
What is the likelihood of seeing Fister in AAA next year? He’s already 22, and it sounds like he’s got three well developed pitches. Given Bavasi’s ‘success through failure’ philosophy (or adversity, or whatever you call it), and the state of the Rainiers’ rotation, seems his chances would be good. But then, I haven’t seen him pitch, and wouldn’t be a good judge if I had.
