On the other hand, the Cardinals have made 6 playoff appearances the past 7 years, so seeing them strike it rich on one of them isn't THAT surprising.

That's the argument for "get to the playoffs consistently".

If ever you wanted "proof" that the post season is a crap shoot (heavily dependent on luck, insert your term here), I think you have it. The Cardinals aren't a bad team but three weeks ago there was a pretty good case that they weren't one of the TEN best teams in baseball. They certainly looked to be the weakest team in the playoffs. Now they're World Series champs.

Actually even today, I don't think they're one of the ten best teams this year.

I haven't preordered your book yet. I want to help it peak close to release time. E.g., when that "Pa" is removed from its title.

Dodger Sims predicted the Cardinals would win in five games. What it is, is a baseball simulation of 1000 games. It takes the pythagorean win pct of the two teams and converts it into a win expectancy (for each game). Of the first five games, it predicted the Cardinals would win four of them.

The 83-regular season win Cardinals win the World Series behind the pitching of ... Jeff Weaver?!

Sign him up. Who needs Matsuzaka? Weaver, Jeff Suppan, and a corner outfielder. Make it so, Bavasi.

I wanted to interview him, but we didn't pull it off. I'm trying to get him an advance copy now for comment/etc, we'll see how that goes. May be hard to get him to write a foreward.
