I’m gonna put the over/under on the Matsuzaka deal at: 20 years, $700 million.
I dare you to take the under.
I heard 6/$52mil, with $8 mil in incentives. Looks like the Red Sox won that battle.
Ok, then I take under.

I don’t know that much about Buchholz and Hirsch, but their minor league numbers certainly don’t blow me away. And Taveras’ value comes solely from his glove, because he’s certainly not going to hit much. Still, this looks like a pretty awful trade for the Astros, just like basically everything else thet’ve done this offseason.
I contend that the Astros would be better off next year with Andy Pettitte, Willy Taveras, Taylor Buchholz, and Jason Hirsch than they are with Jason Jennings and Carlos Lee, even if they had to pay Pettite a little more than the Yankees did. And in 2008, I think they’re much, much better off with the former group. Am I missing something here?
Hehehe, don’t forget the 51.1 to Seibu. That makes the actual deal (if the rumored 6/60 is close) 6/111, or about 18.5 a year. So that’s gonna be a little steep if BP’s projections are close. But I’m guessing there are some problems with getting perfect results out of PECOTA for Matsuzaka.

Also, Jeff Harris, for anyone who cares, signs a minor league deal with Cleveland.
Jim, I care! I’m excited for Jeff Harris and hope he gets a great chance in Cleveland.
No one will read this now that we’re all b1tchin’ about our new DH, but I thought this was a brilliant, brilliant move on the part of Seiubu to get Matsuzka-san signed on the Boston dotted line:
According to rumors that appear to have originated in Japan, word may have reached him that the Lions, who are counting on the enormous cash infusion from the Sox, were considering sending him to the minor leagues if he returned. That would have set back his free agency by another year.
