Cult of Doyle update
DMZ · March 17, 2007 at 12:33 pm · Filed Under General baseball, Mariners
Snelling hit *two* home runs today off Chan Ho Park and a double off Jorge Sosa to go 3-5 with 3 runs scored and four RBI.
Snelling’s spring training line is now 8-26, 2 doubles, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 19 total bases, 3 walks, 6 K.
.307/.379/.731
Spring training stats don’t mean much, of course.
M’s with more than 20 ABs in spring training and higher rate stats:
AVG: Bloomquist (.500!), LaHair, Vidro, Ibanez, Ichiro!
OBP: Bloomquist, Ibanez, LaHair, Vidro
SLG: —
If Snelling were still in Seattle and had an open shot at the job, well… he’s not.
Go get ’em, Chris.
Just watch Alex Escobar win the job…because he’s Alex Escobar and Manny Acta likes him.
Good luck, Doyle.
Impressive. Hope he can swim through the slop of mediocre outfielders in Washington and get a ton of ABs.
That counts as, like, one normal homerun.
Escobar and Doyle are more similar than you may think, and I can totally see why a team in the National’s wretched condition would want to see if he can do the job.
That being said, GO DOYLE! win the LF job, and the MVP.
If they were clutch home runs, then it’s OK.
I read that they were non-clutch Australian-knock-off home runs.
Doyle- “Australian for MVP”
Anyone know where I can find a jersey of Snelling? Im going to a couple Nats games and would love to find a jersey
#7, at the Mariners’ Team Store for 20% off.
Heh.
stupid foreigners/foreign travelers bringing knockoff goods into these United States. Otta be arrested for copyright infringement.
I love how all Ryan Church has done is be relatively effective for the Nats, but because he doesn’t participate in their off-season nor have a big name, he is constantly looked at to be replaced. Perhaps I’m biased from my time in Lompoc, but we could have done worse here than adding his bat. Like trading for an over-the-hill 2bagger to DH.
Doyle will look great until his yearly injury… have we learned nothing from the past?
And, uhm, is it okay for citizens to bring in and sell knockoff goods, or is this simply a foreigner rant, Corc?
Hey! This is a clearly-marked Cult of Doyle post. There’s no need to bring that kind of negativity in here.
Maybe Doyle will catch a break. Apparently Alex Escobar is hurt and wouldn’t be ready to start the season and Acta, the National’s manager says of Snelling, “He is helping himself bigtime”.
The big question is, will he be able to stay healthy with the Nats? I’m not saying Vidro for Snelling wasn’t a horrible trade; it’s just… well, you know.
I’m going to start putting disclaimers on CoD posts. Really.

#7 – I was given a Doyle, okay, a Snelling jersey as a gift. My girlfriend got it from the Nationals Team Store apparently. Number 8. I’ve got a Nats hat to go with it. Don’t know which team swag you prefer, but I’m doing the Nats until Hargrove hits the road.
Wait, I thought that was your daughter.
Spring training stats don’t mean much, of course.
So they say; and in Arizona’s thin air (where curve balls barely curve), they may not mean much at all.
And early ST stats may not mean much either.
But if the Mariner starting pitchers keep tossing lights out, we’ll go into the 2007 season with more optimism than we’ve had in some time.
Just south of Eugene Oregon is Doyle’s Harley Davidson I’m sure we could find some kind of jersey there!
Doyle has been interviewed a few times this spring during the course of the games by the Nats *dugout* reporter…. he’s saying all of the right things too… He was asked specifically about his role on the team and Church (or Churchie as Doyle referred to him) and Doyle’s answer was basically a complement of the Nats outfielders…
I hope he gets his chance in Washington. This is a guy who COULD be a star…… If he went to Cincy, he’d be ADORED by the fans.
I’ve kind of gotten over the Soriano deal. This one though still bugs me….
Hey, Willie B. is hitting better than the Aussie poster-boy Chris Snelling. Why can’t Willie get a cult following? Plus, Willie’s a gritty, local boy.

Washington Post Baseball Notebook from today. Nice write up on Doyle today. Boy I hope
Bavasis proves us wrong….
Snelling is out of options, so he’s pretty much on the team. It’s just a matter of if he starts and how many ABs he’ll get.
Go Doyle!!! Keep going strong and show us you CAN stay healthy.
I was scrolling quickly through that Washington Post article to read the parts about Doyle. I saw the end of a sentence that I’d almost overshot – “…career has been derailed by multiple injuries”, and was sure I’d found more on Chris. But no, they were saying that about Escobar. Heh.
Bavasi haters can pull for Snelling in order to make Bill look bad, as well as for the sake of Doyle’s own career.
