Oakland’s padding their run differential against Texas, 10-0, through 5.

  2. argh on April 20th, 2007 6:44 pm

What the bloody hell is going on with Comcast-FSN Northwest? They announced HD broadcasts of all Mariner homegames some time ago and actually did broadcast a few, but now it’s gone dark (HD channel 664). I wonder if some of the dead tree media could bestir themselves to investigate this small question since, you know, perhaps a few people were encouraged to purchase digital cable packages based on the announcement/promise to perform?

Not that I’m going to file suit. Tonight, anyway.

  3. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 6:47 pm

Pickin’ Machine just homered off of Tom Gordon to tie Reds-Phillies at one, with 2 outs in the ninth inning.

  4. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 6:47 pm

Uhh, argh, tonight is not a “homegame.”

  5. msb on April 20th, 2007 6:49 pm

Drayer was just on saying that, yes, the Ms admit that it was up on mariners.com, a website which is part of mlb.com, but (as was obviously stressed heavily to the media by the Ms) it is NOT the Mariners’ website, and that the writers over there are free to write whatever they want, even if it is wrong wrong wrong :)

  6. argh on April 20th, 2007 6:51 pm

Okay, whoops. But last night was and it wasn’t on HD either (don’t think any of the Minnesota series was).

  7. David* on April 20th, 2007 6:53 pm

Over/Under for times hearing that John Mellencamp song during game commercials tonight is 10.5.

I’m praying it’s the under, but betting it’s the over.

  8. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 6:56 pm

Drayer mentioned the same thing on the radio broadcast. I was unaware the the “official” (but not so much so, I suppose) M’s website was less trustworthy than 14 year old’s Myspace page. So can the M’s direct me to their secret official website where I can find factual and official probable pitcher listings? I believe the URL is something along the lines of wedon’tknowhatwe’redoing.com.

  9. msb on April 20th, 2007 6:57 pm

    I blame Jim Street :)

  10. msb on April 20th, 2007 6:59 pm

so, if the A’s (unusually) get off to a hot start, does that mean they don’t have their usual stormin’ back 2nd half?

  11. Josh on April 20th, 2007 6:59 pm

Well, mariners.org used to be done in particular by the M’s, I believe. Back in the day when they were the first team to have a website. Then everyone got the “official” site and mariners.org (which I still type) redirects to theirs.

  12. apunetid on April 20th, 2007 7:01 pm

They wouldn’t tell me anything on mariners.gov.

  13. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 7:05 pm

I remember the porn industry wanted to use the .xxx ending for porn sites. Maybe mariners.xxx holds all the secrets.

  14. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 7:08 pm

See the new delicious front page post. I wonder if there wasn’t at least some confusion and back and forth in the M’s org about this.

  15. Josh on April 20th, 2007 7:09 pm

Mariners.gov asked me to immediately identify myself or be handed over to federal authorities.

  16. The Unknown Comic on April 20th, 2007 7:14 pm

I wonder if Hargrove has figured out that Mateo sucks yet.

  17. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 7:15 pm

    No.

  18. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 7:19 pm

Let’s spread the rumor that Mateo was the one who listed Morrow as Monday’s starter. That could change Grover’s mind about his favorite portly righthander.

  19. David* on April 20th, 2007 7:19 pm

    Aggressive baserunning!

  20. Josh on April 20th, 2007 7:19 pm

Uhh…Beltre was in there, not even close.

    Vidro…. nevermind.

  21. go_cougs on April 20th, 2007 7:20 pm

Thats one for the over under.

  22. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:20 pm

agressive baserunning! Pineiro warming up to pitch to Yankees, maybe to A-Rod, this is too fun!

  23. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 7:20 pm

try watching in cali with hudler (worst ever!) doing color…”he was out…not even close” says the wonder dog…guy’s an idiot…

  24. The Unknown Comic on April 20th, 2007 7:23 pm

My prediction for tonights game… Batista pitches decently for 6 2/3 innings and the Mariners lead 4-3 when Batista walks the bases loaded with two outs in the 7th inning. Mateo comes on and gives up a 3 run double on an 0-2 count.

  25. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:26 pm

24: even better, it’s Vlad, pitch 1 “fastball” foul ball HR to right. Pitch 2: “change” FB HR to left. Pitch 3: “slider” GS to dead center.

  26. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 7:26 pm

#22 looks like Pineiro will be going against A-rod with a guy on 6-7 boston…

  27. Zach on April 20th, 2007 7:26 pm

did ichiro just perpetrate the no-look catch?

  28. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:26 pm

everyone turn on ESPN, A-Rod, down 1, bottom 9, one on, one out.

  29. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:27 pm

I mean top 9, and unfortunately Joel isn’t pitching.

  30. davepaisley on April 20th, 2007 7:28 pm

Let’s face it, it was just some guy “writing on the internet”. You know how reliable that is…

  31. davepaisley on April 20th, 2007 7:29 pm

Man, that guy is so washed-up.

  32. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 7:30 pm

“Anderson’s been one of the better hitters in the league for a long time now” — Blowers

    Really?

  33. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:30 pm

Hudler: Anderson’s a “premium run producer”

  34. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:33 pm

well if you take into account the span of “a long time” and consider “one of the better” to mean in the better half of hitters, and that his career OPS+ = 105, then yes, Blowers is correct.

  35. msb on April 20th, 2007 7:34 pm

oh, just add “against the Mariners” to both those statements…

    sigh.

Slumping? Invite the Mariners to your next baseball series!

  36. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 7:36 pm

Was Ibanez being doubled off just lousy luck or more Grover-esque agressive baserunning?

  37. apunetid on April 20th, 2007 7:38 pm

    Angel Killer!

  38. argh on April 20th, 2007 7:38 pm

Re: 36 Bad luck I think.

  39. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 7:39 pm

total bad luck for ibanez…if only the entire roster hated the angels as much as guillen does…

  40. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 7:44 pm

Bloomquist has intangibles, Vidro has veteran presence, Guillen has hatred. Mariners rock!

  41. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:45 pm

Tui 2-2 with a two singles and a walk.

  42. Brandon on April 20th, 2007 7:47 pm

    Ouch.

  43. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 7:48 pm

OK, even on the radio, that sounded like Grover-esque agressiveness at play.

  44. Tak on April 20th, 2007 7:48 pm

    oh wow…

  45. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:48 pm

We’re just building up a store of Karma that will result in a go-ahead HR by Broussard off of K-Rod.

  46. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 7:49 pm

Bloomquist has intangibles, Vidro has veteran presence, Guillen has hatred.

If only we could have one player with all those qualities? Oh yeah! Carl Evertt! … Whatever happen to that guy?

  47. Brandon on April 20th, 2007 7:49 pm

That was pretty much unlucky as well though he maybe should have gotten back to 2nd.

  48. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:50 pm

At least Lopez showed a nice opposite field stroke.

  49. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 7:51 pm

If only we could have one player with all those qualities? Oh yeah! Carl Evertt! … Whatever happen to that guy?

I dunno, Al Martin had plenty of hatred, though he didn’t take it out on players.

  50. The Unknown Comic on April 20th, 2007 7:52 pm

Wouldn’t you know it the A’s score 16 runs tonight and I have Piazza on my fantasy team and he is 0 – 5.

  51. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:52 pm

    Oakland 16, Rangers 3

  52. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 7:53 pm

Sometimes when I’m perusing the baseball scores in the paper, it’ll hit me: “Hey, remember that time we had Carl Everett on our team?” “Whatever happened to Ben Davis?” “What about that Miguel Olivo guy? And then the other guy that was just like Miguel Olivo and shared his number and what was his name…?”

As much as I love baseball, I’m so sick of not being able to know who the hell is on my team anymore—and if they’re any good.

  53. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 7:53 pm

That’s right. Martin took his aggression out on U. of Michigan running backs during his college football heyday.

  54. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 7:54 pm

Of course, the day Vlad comes back is the day we come into town.

  55. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:54 pm

Oakland with 11 walks in 47 plate appearances

  56. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 7:54 pm

Martin also had some… er… “domestic violence” incidents. Which wife, I’m not sure.

  57. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:55 pm

52 you can basically assume that if they aren’t on the team anymore, they weren’t good.

  58. Tek Jansen on April 20th, 2007 7:58 pm

    56

I knew what you meant. I always assumed that Martin and former Wolverine FB Leroy Hoard were “life partners.” Am I mistaken?

  59. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 7:59 pm

    Another killer throw wasted.

  60. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:00 pm

Man, bleeding to death over 162 games is gonna make for a long season.

  61. Zach on April 20th, 2007 8:00 pm

how many more years of Batista await?

  62. davepaisley on April 20th, 2007 8:00 pm

Chaves: “Hey Miguel, pitch luckier, huh?”

  63. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 8:01 pm

    3, I think, at 8 per?

  64. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 8:02 pm

So, does this mean that Bautista isn’t “pitching to win” or that he sucks?

  65. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 8:03 pm

wow, I turn the channel for a second and return to this… Maybe I should just finish reading DMZ’s book “The Cheater’s Guide to Baseball“.

  66. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 8:04 pm

    It’s okay to savor it.

  67. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 8:04 pm

how many more years of Batista await?

If we could accelerate to 99% of the speed of light, mere seconds!

  68. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 8:05 pm

Hopefully they won’t fix the volume problem.

  69. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:09 pm

I wish “easy play” didn’t come so trippingly to the announcer’s lips when the Mariners were batting.

  70. Tak on April 20th, 2007 8:12 pm

    come on Angel Killer!

  71. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 8:12 pm

Back in ‘04, Honus Wagner hit .349!

  72. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 8:15 pm

    @#$@#$@#%@%!!!!

  73. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 8:21 pm

so, this is boring, howabout Sidney Ponson with the 9.31 era, shouldn’t they bring up Garza?

  74. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:24 pm

Back in ‘04, Honus Wagner hit .349!

What kind of mother could do that to her baby?

  75. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:25 pm

“Easy play, one out here in the top of the 5th.”

  76. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 8:27 pm

Lopez with a nice opposite field stroke.

  77. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:29 pm

To bad the name ‘Pirates’ is already taken given the Mariners penchant for stranding people.

  78. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 8:36 pm

I wonder what the record is for strand percentage by an offense for a season.

  79. _David_ on April 20th, 2007 8:37 pm

Doyle with what could be the game winning hit in 14th inning against FLA

  80. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 8:38 pm

At least Vidro is hitting. That’s a good thing.

  81. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 8:39 pm

52 you can basically assume that if they aren’t on the team anymore, they weren’t good.

_David_: with the exception of Rafael Soriano, Carlos Guillen, Freddy Garcia (at least while with the ChiSox), Jamie Moyer….

  82. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 8:41 pm

this game is terrible in every way…

  83. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 8:41 pm

And soon we may be able to add Doyle to the list of Exceptions to the “not-on-the-team-not-any-good” rule….

  84. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 8:43 pm

vidro is the slowest runner ever…ever…

  85. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:46 pm

And yet Vidro’s lack of speed seems to be hovering somewhere around number 319 on the list of problems the Mariners will need to address to move up to respectable baseball.

  86. argh on April 20th, 2007 8:47 pm

At least we’ve helped snap the Angels out of their terrible offensive slump. The Mariners really are a team full of nice guys.

  87. Jar on April 20th, 2007 8:48 pm

Well, on that note. I am going to find something else to do.

Call me when Felix gets better.

  88. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 8:48 pm

ok so Batista… why did our beloved team sign him again? and why for 3 years?

  89. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 8:49 pm

Oh, Morrow warming up now? What the hell, Hargrove?

  90. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 8:53 pm

Hargrove THIS IS MATEO’s TIME! Not when the team is leading 2-1.

  91. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 8:58 pm

so, any speculation now on who starts monday now that morrow is in?

  92. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 8:59 pm

Guess they’re getting him prepped for Monday…? ;)

  93. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 8:59 pm

shouldn’t Morrow just pitch the last few innings?

  94. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 9:00 pm

Bets on if Sims or Blowers mentions the PR snafu during Morrow’s pitching time?

  95. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:01 pm

    thanks to the idiot fan…

  96. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 9:01 pm

Maybe the organization will suddenly become aware of how disastrous the Texas start would have been as they’re seeing this…?

  97. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:02 pm

wow…can we get a single break tonight?

  98. Arkinese on April 20th, 2007 9:03 pm

This is turning into the Boston rout the day before the Fabulous Felix game.

  99. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:05 pm

98- too bad we don’t have felix tomorrow…

  100. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:07 pm

i’m going to the next two games in anaheim…i swear, if the next two days are this bad, i might not make it home…

  101. IdahoInvader on April 20th, 2007 9:10 pm

If we ever capture terrorists who are M’s fans, just have the Feds strap them to a chair and watch the last four games. They’ll spill all their secrets!

  102. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 9:15 pm

I have to say, the Good Vidro – the pitch-watching, hitting-in-the-air guy – is so much better than the pound-into-the-ground one it’s ridiculous.

  103. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 9:16 pm

#101 I know I would confess to something if it only meant our guys could start getting some runs.

  104. Baker rumors, other nonsense on April 20th, 2007 9:16 pm

  105. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:17 pm

nice picture of ichiro in the dugout…you he’s just counting the days to get the hell out of dodge…

  106. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 9:17 pm

#102 yeah the Vidro that doesn’t try to run out grounders is so much better.

vidro scores from first? wholy shit…

  108. Tak on April 20th, 2007 9:18 pm

Oh, never mind, Gillick is in Philly

  113. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 9:22 pm

I thought Guillen was going to use the Dark Side of the force, to feel his hatred, to make his at bats better. Maybe some little girl gave him a flower on the way into the ballpark and he lost the hate. Maybe he will use his emotions better tomorrow.

  114. DMZ on April 20th, 2007 9:22 pm

  117. frannyzoo on April 20th, 2007 9:23 pm

  118. Zach on April 20th, 2007 9:24 pm

can anyone confirm or deny that Batista’s three years are all guaranteed?

  119. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 9:25 pm

#116 oh sorry, I missed that. Maybe it is me, and I should just never watch Guillen’s AB again.

  120. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:25 pm

  122. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:31 pm

  129. thenatural on April 20th, 2007 9:36 pm

couldnt write a better story than that… i guess im a bit of an optimist

  130. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:37 pm

i’d say at least this is some momentum for tomorrow, but that hasn’t been the case after the last two rallies came up short…plus colon throws tomorrow…ugh…

i might seem crazy, but did vidro have that beaten out even with a clean catch?

  133. thenatural on April 20th, 2007 9:41 pm

yeah it looked like he was there anyways

  134. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:42 pm

  135. bakomariner on April 20th, 2007 9:45 pm

well, i’ll talk to you all on monday…maybe i can bring some “funk” to the big A…later…

  136. thenatural on April 20th, 2007 9:45 pm

theres a good chance… but the world will never know, it seems like ichiro and ibanez would have been more effective than bloomquist and ellison… give it to Grover to finally make some moves, at the worst possible time

  137. mark s. on April 20th, 2007 9:47 pm

how many loses would it take for Hargrove to get fired?

I feel like a kid in the backseat kicking father Bavasi in the back of the seat and asking when are we going to get there?

  138. Tak on April 20th, 2007 9:48 pm

sorry, I am probably missing some vital information about the 9th inning situation, but why was Ichiro replaced? (taking out Sexson / Ibanez made sense given the circumstances but…)

  139. IdahoInvader on April 20th, 2007 9:50 pm

We now officially lead the league in one offensive category (besides non-power hitters making outs on 3-0 counts)

“RISP when the tying run isn’t even on deck yet”
