This from AP (via ESPN) "Cha Seung Baek made four starts in Hernandez's place in the rotation and went 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA. It was thought that he would take Jeff Weaver's rotation spot. Weaver, 0-6 with a 14.32 ERA, went on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of shoulder tendinitis.

But Hargrove said Saturday he was pretty sure Weaver would have a spot in the rotation when he is ready to return.

[Great Scott! Glad Miller Huggins didn't feel that way about Wally Pipp.]

Why would he be faking an injury? Most of you seem to think that's what's happening here, but that doesn't make much sense to me. Unless Weaver just wanted to take some time off and sit for awhile, but that doesn't seem very likely.

So is Ryan Rowland-Smith going to start? I wish they'd let Brandon Morrow start and plug this guy into long relief, but that's probably not going to happen.

7. This also means they can send him to the minors for a rehab option once the 15 days are up… and I suspect that’s EXACTLY what they will do.

Or he'll get moved to the 60 day DL...

I'm sorry you all had to have your season shit on by Weaver. It's Boras' fault, really. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who saw this coming...

"So assuming we're confident Weaver will suck on another team, why don't we just wait for him to flop? Then we just wait for the phone to ring when that team tries to unload him (to the only club who could possibly have any interest in the bum)."

I just love Bill Bavasi and Mike Hargrove. Know why? Because not only are they savvy judges of baseball talent (Billy Beane, you've got some serious competition here!), but also because they are so honest. They really lay it out on the table, with no tired cliches or double-talk.

Here's my comments on the Bavasi comment from #14 above:

“Jeff is a guy that won’t complain about anything [except when he whines that "I just got unlucky and their balls found the holes"] and just takes the baseball [and throws batting practice]. It became obvious to us [much later than it became obvious to everyone else in Seattle] when he needed to reach back for that little something extra [a decent pitch that might get a major-league hitter out], his arm strength [stuff] just wasn’t there. Once we talked to him [screamed at him], it became obvious [again, at a glacial pace] that with some time off [perhaps a season] and a strength program [he probably wore out his shoulder trying to carrying around so many large bags of cash], he will have an opportunity to return to the type of pitcher we know he can be [an overpaid, overmatched piece of horse crap].”

Just watch, after Baek throws a couple more decent games, Weaver will come off the DL as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

(Paging Dave Duncan!!)

Well, I could buy it if Weaver was posting Joel Piñeiro style 2K in 9 IP shutouts... but I saw last year's postseason and now, and his fastball is definitely worse... and reminiscent of last year. Certainly not what it was a few years ago.

Hargrove describes Rowland-Smith, thusly:

"he's a big guy who throws the ball pretty decently"
