The Future Forty post has been buried, and something reported there was bothering me for some time and I never asked, so if nobody minds, I want to do it now:

Was the report on Jeff Clement's bat being slow skewed, biased, or in some way miquoted? In April, the report was something along the lines of "he's stinging the ball everwhere but not finding any holes" and in May it was "his bat is slow and his star is falling".

Yesterday, he jacked two homeruns in a 5-4 loss. If you look at his splits, he crushes lefties but doesn't hit righties (which we know isn't something worth paying attention to, since inverted splits aren't likely), and he doesn't hit at home at all.

I'm just saying, perhaps Jeff Clement is still a prospect and just had a really... REALLY... bad month.

I was at the game today. It was depressing. A few observations.

The roof was closed during the third inning as the PA announcer said there was a forecast of rain. Figuratively and literally, as I watched the roof close overhead I had a feeling of doom.

Among the non-stop fan entertainment they feel compelled to bombard the masses with is a "Mariner's Anagram" guessing game. First they do Jose Guillen (JUDGE ONE ILL, DUEL LINE JOG, OLDIE JUNGLE), then Horacio Ramirez (CHAIR ERA RIM ZOO, AIR ARM RICH ZOO, RARE AIR CHI ZOOM) and finally ... you got it ... Miguel Batista. I kept hoping and wishing but alas - no I AM BELUGA TITS.

Wee Willie is even less imposing looking from row 6, Sec. 135 (right near third base) than he is on TV. He has the perpetual look of a kid who doesn't belong there but puts himself in the midst of everything. Every mound conference, there he is. Standing on top of the mound, he appeared to still be shorter than Richie Sexson standing behind the mound.

Raul and Ichiro seem to get along quite well. They chatted together during pitching changes, Ichiro brought out Raul's glove and hat on several occasions.

Microbrews are now $8.

ah, the winning Text Question of the Day on the postgame show:

"do you think his recent batting will get Willie more playing time?"

One hit short of another 10-hit game. Darn.

I can hear the Mariner announcers talking about it now.

"Forget that we blew a 4-0 lead. We wanted our 10 hits."
