I’m no expert either. I’m Just a baseball fan. I don’t spend time looking at sites that give actual percentage for a team to win DURING the game. And I don’t look at sites that peg the Ms playoff chances day by day. I’m too busy watching/listening to the games and reading this blog.

DOn’t get me wrong, I love this blog. I bought Derek’s book. I learn something all the time. I’m just a smart-ass Don’t pay me any mind.

While I admitting my ignorance, where can I find a handy llist for the all the acronyms used freely here. I know what WHIP is, I know what OPS is, but beyond that I’m generall sitting here going… “???”

I know, the “experts” on here will all explain that he hasn’t changed and his fastball is still weak and the sample size is small, yada yada yada.

But as hard as starting pitching is to find these days, and since we’re paying him $8 million whether he pitches for us or not, I’m glad he’s still around. Regardless, he’s probably gonna be a lock for the 5th spot for the rest of the year. And if pitches like he did last night, that’s a very good thing. Big If, though.

Those two paragraphs are connected, you know.

Let me finish what I was saying…
I am hopeful that he has turned the corner and will give us 6 innings and less than 4 runs for the rest of the year. The best part of this would be that the team does not feel the need to break the bank trying to pick up another starter. But if he gets knocked around again, the questions will come back. But feel free criticize me, even though I am no “expert” by any stretch of the imagination.

I’m one of those who were calling for Weaver to be DFA’ed not so long ago. I am still not convinced that he has turned the corner, as this is what he has given since his return from the DL (from my perspective);
1 great start (Pitt)
1 solid start (Bos)
1 bad but lucky start (ChiC)
1 start that can’t be graded (SD)
I am thrilled that we have won 3 of his past 4 starts. I am hopeful that he has turned the corner and will give us 6 innings and

Which for Weaver is a good thing. He couldn’t possibly be THAT awful all season. Regressing to the mean implies that he could pitch out the rest of the season with an ERA around 4.40 instead of 15+

And as Dave wrote last week after the Pittsburg game Weaver is varying his pitches much more. When he was getting creamed he kept lobbing in 87mph 2 seamers without good sink – and the hitters feasted. If my memory is any use, he seemed to working well with a slider last night. He will suffice.

Jeff Weaver, Cy Young candidate.

What a difference 3 days makes. I attended the 16-1 pimp-slapping the Ms suffered on Friday to one of the weakest teams in baseball, then attended last night and saw the Ms thump the best team in baseball with arguably their worst pitcher on the mound. Isn’t this a funny game? You just can’t make this stuff up.

Where are all the people that were calling for him to be DFAed just a few weeks ago?
