I’d say from his username, Bomberboy is someone who wants Ichiro traded to the Yankees for “two solid pitching prospects” — no doubt not named Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, or Alan Horne. Yeah, like Ichiro really WANTS to move to that train wreck of a team before all those expensive contracts expire.

If Ichiro! is the single reason Hargrove left, then he's worth much more than 18M. That's called making the team better. That's leadership. As for trading Ichiro! "while he still has value": he's going to command value for some time (his skillset ages well, and he may take better care of himself than anybody in baseball), and not just on the field. I realize asking you to read all the background material on this site may be like handing a dictionary to a cow, but at least understand the M's will likely get as much or more value if they just let him leave at the end of the season than if they pull off a deadline trade. Sure, that value is longer-term in the form of draft picks rather than near-MLB arms, but given the FO's track record, wouldn't you rather have that value determined by Fontaine draft evaluations than by Bavasi's trading skills?

Ichiro is worth 18$M. In perspective the the cashola we lavish on Sexson, Beltre, and other players of mediochre/inconsisitent skills, I’d take an always-healthy, always hard-working, always-feared-hitter who will become an ace pitcher when he turns 40. Cy Ichiro!

98 There is so much wrong with what you say that I don’t know where to start, but can only recommend that you read anything Dave has written recently about trading Ichiro.

I will ask you one thing though: WHY isn’t Ichiro worth $18 million? I’m sure that he is worth more than that just in terms of sales of team merchandise, especially in Japan. (Hint: they aren’t buying Ibanez “Face of the Franchise” jerseys in Tokyo).

You know, it’s not all that bad. After the two losses, and then a win, we GAINED half a game on the Angels. That makes me feel a hell of a lot better than the way the team took a dump after their last long win streak.

Because, you know, a team that concerns you about run scoring and gets what you consider winnable pitching is obviously improved by removing their best offensive player and getting zero offense in return, just some minor league arms.

Very concerned about the run scoring ability/inability. See M’s total bases, extra base hits….The team gets more winnable pitching than we give them credit for but the run production is bad, very bad…even during these wins…by the way…trade Ichiro NOW…get two solid pitching prospects and move him…he will cost $18 M per for 4-5 years and will not be worth the money he will tie up….I say move him while he commands some value…and he is not a team guy, he is a stats guy…no leadership at all….probably the single reason why Hargrove left….
