Actually, Jim Leyland blew it. He should have gone FRod-Putz and Papelbon (if needed). Worse yet, he may have had this upcoming weekend in mind when he left JJ in a batter or two too long (sneaky, but deniable). As for Pujols, maybe that’s why some people think Tony LaRussa is overrated… All’s well that ended well.

274 & 276 That’s one of the things I love about Ichiro. He wears some of the ugliest shit and knows he’s going to get crap about it, but he just doesn’t give a shit.

Sometimes I think Ichiro is playing a mean joke on the media with that translator of his just so that he can hear some of the ridiculous questions that are thrown at him.

On Brian Roberts….I don’t get how they call that a hit…isn’t the guy supposed to be an ALL STAR in the All Star Game? It was in his glove! It should be routine. Not that it all matters but would have been pretty cool to see the AL get the win with Ichiro as MVP Putz with the save, and Griffey knocking in the only 2 NL runs.

I know Andrews was joking (or some definition of joking, and of course the joke was on her), but it’s a little insulting to mention his (thankfully-no-longer-existant) impending free-agency when he’s in the middle of a playoff race with his current club. It’s fine for the broadcasters to discuss, but to bring it up in his MVP interview seems somehow different and wrong.

Trust me, the SF fans were *convinced* they were getting Ichiro this off season. (Like every other team desperate for hitting.) They’re going to have an unpleasant surprise when they watch TV when they get home.

Getting another look at that suit for the post-game interview. It looks like a bad Oscars tux, you know, when they don’t wear a bow tie.

Interview was ponderous; ESPNEWS cuts wisely away.

I don’t know if FOX and ESPN are in some sort of competition for the most moronic baseball broadcasts. I hate Barry Bonds as much as anyone, but damn, they drove the “S” word topic into the ground during the game, without ever adding any real light to the growing firmament of discussion.

Ichiro rules – Brian Roberts sucks – What on earth are the weekend games? Houston vs Cubs or something? Phillies versus Montreal? Yankees versus South African Refugee All-Stars? I hate FOX.
