A nice prep for a possibly play-off appearance. How ready *are* they?

  2. rsrobinson on August 26th, 2007 7:47 pm

148: Not close. It was a can o’corn for the CF.

  3. argh on August 26th, 2007 7:48 pm

148 – On the warning track but barely. Like a lot of our shots tonight.

A question for Dave: RRS has never, (I don’t think) been on the future forty. I assume you get your opinion of players from scouts who actually see them play, including Mariners scouts. If these people don’t think RRS is ready for prime time, how did he wind up on the 25 man roster?

  6. thowe1 on August 26th, 2007 7:50 pm

Dude, who shoved the cattle prod in Kinsler’s ass? He’s been lighting it up tonight.

  7. Say Hey on August 26th, 2007 7:50 pm

I hate to say it, but this one is OVER.

  8. wcf51 on August 26th, 2007 7:50 pm

if we could pull off the comeback win tonight we’d have so much momentum going back to seattle.

  9. argh on August 26th, 2007 7:51 pm

When the other team has a bad case of hoof ‘n mouth, all your guys look like they’ve got a cattle prod up their ass.

Playoff teams don’t split a late August series with the Rangers.

  11. rsrobinson on August 26th, 2007 7:53 pm

This one isn’t as frustrating as last night. We’ve been outhit and outpitched tonight. Last night was truly a blown opportunity.

  12. HamNasty on August 26th, 2007 7:54 pm

I should thank ESPN for blacking out this game.

  13. _David_ on August 26th, 2007 7:57 pm

    Haven’t we see this before?

  14. _David_ on August 26th, 2007 8:03 pm

That at bat was so horrible that gameday shows that two fo the balls were strikes

  15. thewyrm on August 26th, 2007 8:03 pm

Kiss my (expletive) ass. Ritchie is gonna pinch hit?

Yeah, no playoff team has ever split a late series with a bad team. Let’s relax a bit. 🙂

We’re all frustrated, but inferring anything from four games is pretty rash.

  17. _David_ on August 26th, 2007 8:07 pm

    Two out rally!

  18. thewyrm on August 26th, 2007 8:07 pm

    Huh.

  19. rsrobinson on August 26th, 2007 8:08 pm

Tying run at the plate. Time for a Yunibomb.

  20. G-Man on August 26th, 2007 8:08 pm

Three hits, tying run at the plate ….

Not siure why Cruz was playing so deep as to be unable to get Lopez’s hit – that run was meaningless.

  21. _David_ on August 26th, 2007 8:08 pm

Tying run at the plate! Lets pinch hit Richie for Yuni!

  22. thewyrm on August 26th, 2007 8:09 pm

    Please God. Please.

  24. thewyrm on August 26th, 2007 8:13 pm

What did Yuni think would happen even if he did connect on that pitch?

  25. rsrobinson on August 26th, 2007 8:13 pm

Yuni was swinging for the fences on all three swings. With Ichiro coming up we just needed a base knock. Bad at bat.

We sucked in this game – yesterday is the one we should
have won. Argh, lame. And this team is SO streaky. I’ve lost
my good vibes for the Angels series. Sigh.

  27. IdahoInvader on August 26th, 2007 8:14 pm

What’s sad is if he had ten more chances, Wilson would’ve thrown it waaaay high ten more times…

And YuBet swings EVERY time evidently

  28. johnb on August 26th, 2007 8:15 pm

Plenty of time boys….the Angels are up next…we all have known for months that our ticket to winning the division is beating these guys. Here is is guys, the series of the season…at least up to this point.

  29. thewyrm on August 26th, 2007 8:21 pm

If we can’t hit Padilla how the hell are we going to hit the Angels?

  30. awolfgang on August 26th, 2007 8:29 pm

I am so glad that MLB Extra Innings did not show that last two M’s games. I think, that is the M’s strategy, do the most sucking when the least amount of fans are watching. Case in point, Batista’s melt down in Minnesota, was at 10am and not on t.v., perfect time to suck.

  31. G-Man on August 26th, 2007 8:32 pm

Don’t abandon ship yet, mates. Stuff happens; it’s OK to split a road series. The M’s have the third best record in MLB, and they have a lot more games to play against good, bad and ugly teams.

    It’s gonna be a fun 5 weeks.

  32. Notor on August 26th, 2007 8:36 pm

Nah it’s really not okay to split a road series this time of year against easy teams in a close pennant race.

  33. thefin190 on August 26th, 2007 9:05 pm

Yea that’s true, the Rangers are a team the M’s should be winning against. Part of making the playoffs is winning against teams you should be beating, such as royals, d-rays, rangers etc. those games count too.

But Yanks also lost so no reason to panic just yet. M’s are just going to have to sweep the angels if they want to take the division.

  34. Teej on August 27th, 2007 1:14 am

I was going to post something about how everyone needs to calm the hell down and stop believing that any one series is indicative of a team’s capabilities or future success, but Jeff Sullivan said it perfectly, so I’ll just cheaply copy and paste a good section:

Around this time last year, the Tigers lost a series to the Rangers (80-82), the Twins lost a series to the Royals (62-100), the Yankees lost a series to the Orioles (70-92), the A’s split with the Royals, the Padres lost a series to the Rockies (76-86), the Mets lost a series to the Phillies (85-77), the Cardinals got swept by the Pirates (67-95), and the Dodgers got swept by their closest division rival. Somehow, those teams managed to put it behind them and make the playoffs. Why should we think that the Mariners’ brand of suck is unique and five times as crippling?

Check out http://www.lookoutlanding.com for the full post. Good stuff.

    Go M’s!
