Hypothetically, of course. Would it be best for said gentleman (or lady, as the case may be,) to chalk it up as an object lesson in carelessness, or would it be beneficial to the nature of the study for this individual to re-do the projection? It's a reference to help you convert raw numbers into a statline. That's it. You should be doing the regression to the mean yourself.
