On Felix Day against the Angels as well. To be honest, I’m surprised.

  2. Hooligan on April 11th, 2008 7:36 pm

Felix started off with a dead arm, but he’s settling in nicely. Good to see some off-speed stuff early.

  3. hairofthedawg on April 11th, 2008 7:37 pm

    surprise, surprise ;)

  4. Hooligan on April 11th, 2008 7:37 pm

A broken bat should be an automatic out.

  5. dandm2003 on April 11th, 2008 7:39 pm

    Another whhhhiffff by Sexson….shocker

  6. hairofthedawg on April 11th, 2008 7:39 pm

    why?

  7. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 7:39 pm

    To get caught up…

    First inning, Raul, Yay!

    Second inning, Richie, Boo!

OK, all caught up. As you were.

  8. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 7:41 pm

First game of the year that I get to see on tv (I’m in Southern California)! Yeah! Oh…that means Rex Hudler. hmmm.

  9. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:42 pm

Not that I’m giving Richie a flyer or anything, but I think it’s funny that he’s catching so much hell for his rough start and Kenji is hitting just as bad. I know Kenji has been talked about, but not on the whole.

    ….Wilk is terrible.

  10. msb on April 11th, 2008 7:43 pm

I appreciate the fact that many more Weaver pitchers were thrown & seen in the 2nd than in the 1st, but gosh it would be nice if someone actually got a hit and/or a run off of those hits.

  11. Jar on April 11th, 2008 7:43 pm

Kenji is doing just as bad? Kenji is actually doing much worse.

  12. DKCecil on April 11th, 2008 7:43 pm

Richie’s catching hell because he did this for all of last year, too. If Johjima had hit this poorly last year, he’d probably be getting a similar amount of hard feelings.

  13. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 7:44 pm

The difference, of course, is that Kenji will eventually start hitting.

  14. thenatural on April 11th, 2008 7:44 pm

@8: Kenji has defensive value. Richie, not so much.

  15. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:44 pm

    Fair point.

    Wilk is still terrible

  16. Jar on April 11th, 2008 7:44 pm

    Paul B, exactly.

  17. CaptainPoopy on April 11th, 2008 7:44 pm

8 – this is two years consecutive for Richie… he’s looking bad. And he deserves the hell he’s catching for it.

  18. Jar on April 11th, 2008 7:45 pm

    well, crap.

  19. msb on April 11th, 2008 7:45 pm

somehow I didn’t think Felix’ .000 ERA was going to survive the Angels.

  20. Hooligan on April 11th, 2008 7:45 pm

If you can’t keep your equipment in one piece, you shouldn’t be rewarded when shards of your tool spray the infield as the ball falls just past the short stop.

  21. NBarnes on April 11th, 2008 7:45 pm

Also, Johjima has been good more recently. Also, Johjima plays good defense at the most premium defensive position, where Sexson is a statue at the least premium defensive position that isn’t DHing.

  22. CaptainPoopy on April 11th, 2008 7:46 pm

There’s some more great D from Big Sexy.

  23. DKCecil on April 11th, 2008 7:46 pm

Richie just couldn’t fall down quick enough for that one.

  24. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:46 pm

I too believe Kenji will begin to hit.

I don’t think Richie is that bad over at first. He does fine. He’s by no means any Olerud with the glove, right as a ball goes under his f’ing glove…. maybe I should rethink this….

  25. Hooligan on April 11th, 2008 7:46 pm

Hmm…that reads differently than what I expected. Nonetheless, broken bats that end with the ball in play should be automatic outs.

  26. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 7:47 pm

Homer by a back up catcher. Ugh.

  27. Vortex on April 11th, 2008 7:47 pm

Good thing Sexson is a professional hitter.

  28. jlc on April 11th, 2008 7:47 pm

Richie got dirt on his uni! See how good his defense is! I’d say he’s scrappy, but he’s too tall! Ugh.

  29. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:47 pm

    16

I agree, like I said I’m not givin him a flyer, I just thought it was interesting.

  30. CaptainPoopy on April 11th, 2008 7:47 pm

22 – It’s hard to fall down quickly when you’re standing 14′6″ tall.

  31. msb on April 11th, 2008 7:48 pm

why is Rizzs so deathly afraid of “dead air”?

  32. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:49 pm

    29

    it’s “a full 40 oxen tall”

  33. mr.smartypants on April 11th, 2008 7:49 pm

Richie was playing out of position, standing roughly 2 feet to the right of that ball, and couldn’t get his glove on it.

  34. NBarnes on April 11th, 2008 7:49 pm

Oh, and, also, Johjima is being paid about 35% of what Sexson is.

  35. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 7:49 pm

23 – Sexson is an absolutely horrible fielding first baseman.

Here, don’t take my word for it:

    http://ussmariner.com/2007/10/02/wrap-up-part-two/

  36. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:49 pm

    sho nuff

  37. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:51 pm

like I said, maybe I should rethink this.

  38. north on April 11th, 2008 7:51 pm

How’d that non-veterany catcher do that?

  39. CaptainPoopy on April 11th, 2008 7:54 pm

It’s a damn good thing that Vladdy is a free-swinging hitter.

  40. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:54 pm

Vlad, will swing at absolutely anything. Unfortunately, he usually crushes it. Just ask Joel Pineiro. :)

  41. mw3 on April 11th, 2008 7:54 pm

Vlad the Impaler goes down swinging!!!

    Yay Felix 99MPH!!!

  42. Jar on April 11th, 2008 7:54 pm

    KING FELIX!

  43. north on April 11th, 2008 7:54 pm

    [More from the McLaren channel.]

    I’m behind.

How’d that veterany first baseman miss that.

Better call a pitchout because a manager needs to.

  44. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 7:56 pm

I don’t want to know what McLaren is thinking.

    It’s scary.

    And dark.

    And there are cobwebs…

  45. north on April 11th, 2008 7:56 pm

Felix is good. I am good. Felix is good. I can do this.
[fzzt - the McLaren channel had been cut off.]

  46. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:56 pm

    20

Kenji hasn’t been better with the stick recently, He’s ofer his last 23 now…?

  47. jlc on April 11th, 2008 7:58 pm

44 – I took that as more recently, meaning last season Kenji had a good year.

  48. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 7:59 pm

    oh, … definitely.

  49. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:01 pm

Yeah, Kenji had a real respectable year last year. I don’t think he’ll ever regularly reach is Japan numbers, but thats ok. Bonus if he does

  50. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:02 pm

According to Sims, El Gato hit 99 on the gun

  51. CaptainPoopy on April 11th, 2008 8:03 pm

Felix Fermin pitches for the M’s now?

  52. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:03 pm

    yeah, didn’t you hear

  53. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:04 pm

Gameday’s got him several times at 97, then 99 to Vlad.

  54. msb on April 11th, 2008 8:05 pm

“It was all … all dark and empty in there. And … and there were little mice in the corners and spiders had spun this web…”

  55. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:06 pm

    …. need a grounder….

  56. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 8:07 pm

    King Awsome!!!

  57. DKCecil on April 11th, 2008 8:07 pm

    Yeah, Beltre’s pretty awesome.

  58. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:07 pm

just like they draw it up…

  59. mr.smartypants on April 11th, 2008 8:07 pm

    Adrian!

  60. msb on April 11th, 2008 8:08 pm

Rizzs is now telling us about the Angel offense, which, oddly enough is better than the Mariner offense.

    ooh! Beltre-d at first!

we really need a little emoticon for Red doing the happy dance.

  61. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 8:08 pm

    54. Oh dear…

  62. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:09 pm

It would be very unwise not to re-sign Beltre. Considering his last contract was based on MVP numbers, they’ll probably get a slightly better deal on him too.

  63. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:10 pm

Hell of a pick by figgins… wow

  64. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 8:11 pm

    Rauuuuuuuuuuuuuul two times!

  65. DKCecil on April 11th, 2008 8:11 pm

Ibanez completely owns Weaver at this point.

  66. Jar on April 11th, 2008 8:12 pm

    Raul, Angel killer!

  67. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:13 pm

    I heart this Weaver.

  68. Jar on April 11th, 2008 8:15 pm

“This Weaver” is completely shutting down the rest of our line-up, some how.

  69. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 8:16 pm

2 bombs for Raul, he’s Locked in!

  70. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:17 pm

66–I don’t give him credit for that.

  71. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 8:25 pm

The fork in Richie is really getting obvious. He gets his arms out like that anytime before 2007 and it’s in the upper deck.

  72. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 8:27 pm

    Hey, Kenji walked. That’s different.

  73. jdsc55 on April 11th, 2008 8:29 pm

I couldn’t help but think the same thing….he now has more walks than hits on the season

  74. Tek Jansen on April 11th, 2008 8:31 pm

    Dang.

  75. argh on April 11th, 2008 8:31 pm

I didn’t like the way Felix kind of stretched his back and winced just before he threw that homerun ball.

  76. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:33 pm

    That was fun.

  77. Tek Jansen on April 11th, 2008 8:33 pm

One more K and we can see if Vlad’s dreadlocks fit into a golden sombrero.

  78. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:34 pm

Hmm, I didn’t mean the wince from the post right above mine. I meant the Vlad strikeout.

  79. UofMichgoMs on April 11th, 2008 8:35 pm

How can he pitch so smart to Guerrero there and just go so brain dead some other times? Hopefully this is a sign of his progression.

  80. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:38 pm

Watching a pitcher lunge for a ball is not fun.

  81. mr.smartypants on April 11th, 2008 8:38 pm

honestly, incredibly stupid play by Felix. Why not just pick the ball up and throw Kotchman out?

  82. enazario on April 11th, 2008 8:38 pm

The gods of baseball are cruel sometimes

  83. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:41 pm

OK, guys, we’ve done the “Raul hits HR” thing. Can we do something different please?

  84. enazario on April 11th, 2008 8:41 pm

Time for the offense to pick Felix up. They owe him.

  85. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 8:44 pm

Lopez was fortunate at second base. He was safe, though. But once he held up, boy it’s tough to make it.

  86. mr.smartypants on April 11th, 2008 8:45 pm

I think I’d take the HR here. I know it’s redundant, but I’d manage.

  87. enazario on April 11th, 2008 8:45 pm

Take a wild guess what will happen. Walk!

  88. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:45 pm

That’s different. That’s good. A few more please.

  89. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 8:46 pm

I was wondering if he would throw a strike to Raul with first base open.

  90. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:47 pm

    Red’s there with his sign.

  91. mr.smartypants on April 11th, 2008 8:49 pm

blowers and sims sure spent a lot of time talking about how weird it was for hunter to shift to the right side of the outfield like that. But that’s exactly where Adrian hit the ball.

  92. beck21 on April 11th, 2008 8:49 pm

    What jersey was Red wearing?

  93. Kazinski on April 11th, 2008 8:50 pm

For those of you looking at Richie’s, Joh’s, or Vidro’s perfomance so far, take a look at Baltimore, KC, and Oakland at the top of the AL, its a little early yet.

You know you’ve got a problem when your watching the game on gamecast in a Moroccon hotel lobby at 3am. Vidro needs q hit here.

  94. mr.smartypants on April 11th, 2008 8:51 pm

    time for some situational hitting.

  95. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 8:51 pm

    Maybe Richie will walk.

  96. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:52 pm

Is this every Mariner fan’s worst nightmare?

    93/Kazinki–now that’s a fan.

  97. crazyray7391 on April 11th, 2008 8:52 pm

Lopez looked ready to walk off the field right then.

  98. enazario on April 11th, 2008 8:53 pm

    Oh MY GOD.

  99. Oolon on April 11th, 2008 8:53 pm

    Leverage Index = 4.97

  100. crazyray7391 on April 11th, 2008 8:54 pm

    Holy Crap!!!

  101. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 8:54 pm

And, that, Mariner fans, is the best thing that could have happened.

  102. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:54 pm

    Yay, Sexson gets an RBI.

  103. UofMichgoMs on April 11th, 2008 8:55 pm

    95-Good call

  104. jdsc55 on April 11th, 2008 8:56 pm

Maybe Wilk can repeat Big Sexy’s performance there…

  105. Christopher Michael on April 11th, 2008 8:56 pm

    Best Richie AB this season.

  106. enazario on April 11th, 2008 8:57 pm

What a time to get a hit!

  107. Kazinski on April 11th, 2008 8:57 pm

Wow, that was a clutch walk, if he can show some patience he’ll be fine.

  108. msb on April 11th, 2008 8:58 pm

    well, that was unexpected!

  109. 23daysfordavis on April 11th, 2008 8:59 pm

Thank God that Wilkerson hit wasn’t an Angel hit near Ibanez, because then I’d have to read a bunch of “Jones would have got that” comments.

  110. jlc on April 11th, 2008 8:59 pm

Wow, this is like a real offense.

  111. UofMichgoMs on April 11th, 2008 8:59 pm

best part about that (other than the runs and the lead) is Felix’s reaction

  112. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 9:00 pm

When Weaver walked Vidro this inning, it looked to me like it was time to stick a fork in him.

And Richie is taking more pitches than usual (old man skill), so I sort of saw a walk coming. Richie did swing 3-1, though, so that worried me.

And Richie is like 0h for whatever against Weaver lifetime, so he was really unlikely to get a hit.

Then Wilkerson getting a hit, that had to be the final proof that Weaver was through.

  113. JerBear on April 11th, 2008 9:00 pm

    111 – True That.

  114. jdsc55 on April 11th, 2008 9:01 pm

For those of us w/o tv coverage, what exactly was Felix’s reaction?? If I was him, I would be shocked…

  115. crazyray7391 on April 11th, 2008 9:02 pm

He was just jacked up, running around the dugout, shouting, pointing at somebody.

  116. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 9:03 pm

109 — well, Raul is an incredibly bad fielder. So you have to expect some carping. Especially when McLaren doesn’t recognize it, not even enough to use a late inning defensive replacement.

Oh, crud, that looked like Yuni had a chance for a hit.

  117. enazario on April 11th, 2008 9:03 pm

    Web Gem. NO!

  118. UofMichgoMs on April 11th, 2008 9:03 pm

Felix knows its time to do work now

  119. crazyray7391 on April 11th, 2008 9:04 pm

That really was a hell of a play.

  120. JerBear on April 11th, 2008 9:04 pm

Holy crap. That was a play.

  121. msb on April 11th, 2008 9:04 pm

shouldn’t that be ‘Raul is an adequate fielder with virtually no range, and an annoying tendency to let balls drop in front of him’?

  122. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 9:04 pm

    Darn Aybar webgem there.

  123. jdsc55 on April 11th, 2008 9:04 pm

Well since Felix is at 94 pitches, maybe he is done for the evening…..(sarcasm)

  124. Kazinski on April 11th, 2008 9:04 pm

    96,
It’s King Felix. I wish I could get Gameday to work, I getting by with Gamecast.

  125. fishiam on April 11th, 2008 9:05 pm

Defensive play of the year so far. Can’t carp about that …. at least we got our 2 runs prior to it so we can appreciate it a little.

  126. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 9:08 pm

    109 Oh boy…

  127. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 9:08 pm

I don’t even have to say it. Can’t complain about Raul tonight though.

  128. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 9:08 pm

Actual leftfielders hold that one to a single

  129. enazario on April 11th, 2008 9:08 pm

Okay you can say it. Jones could catch that.

  130. cjudnich on April 11th, 2008 9:09 pm

Glad to see Wilk is trying to prove me wrong!!

  131. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:09 pm

Felix is pissed cause the geriatric LF.

  132. jlc on April 11th, 2008 9:10 pm

This game would be exhibit A for the trial of why move Rauul to DH.

  133. Dave Clapper on April 11th, 2008 9:11 pm

Huh. GameCast showed both ball 3 and ball 4 there as right in the center of the strike zone. Good ol’ ESPN.

  134. Paul L on April 11th, 2008 9:12 pm

    Felix is done

  135. Christopher Michael on April 11th, 2008 9:12 pm

Gamecast has been doing that all season. They’d be better off putting a picture of a baseball there as a graphic.

  136. enazario on April 11th, 2008 9:15 pm

    This is scary.

  137. Paul L on April 11th, 2008 9:15 pm

I can’t believe they’re leaving him in to pitch to Vlad after having already thrown eleventyhundred pitches.

  138. fishiam on April 11th, 2008 9:15 pm

… and here’s the matchup of the season so far … can our boy win the day?

  139. UofMichgoMs on April 11th, 2008 9:15 pm

Goin for the hat trick plus one I guess

  140. enazario on April 11th, 2008 9:16 pm

    Bad pitch. Get him out.

  141. UofMichgoMs on April 11th, 2008 9:17 pm

    I hate that guy

  142. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:17 pm

Hey, Grady Little is managing us today… how fun for us.

  143. jlc on April 11th, 2008 9:18 pm

If I had any fingernails left after the first 10 games, I’d be chewing them now.

  144. Paul B on April 11th, 2008 9:18 pm

    Can’t strike Vlad out everytime.

  145. BAT235 on April 11th, 2008 9:20 pm

Thank you Green for not being O’Flahrety

  146. Tek Jansen on April 11th, 2008 9:21 pm

Why bring in Green to face a lefty? Even though the results turned out OK, RRS should have been used in that spot.

  147. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 9:23 pm

    Ibanez wouldn’t have done that!

  148. DAMellen on April 11th, 2008 9:24 pm

I read somewhere that it’s been statistically proven that bunting with a man on second actually makes a team less likely to bring in the run.

  149. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 9:25 pm

I actually don’t mind bunting Ichiro to third. Let’s hope this works out.

  150. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:25 pm

Mac, letting the Win Expectancy go down. Super.

  151. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 9:25 pm

147: Fangraphs supports you on this matter.

  152. Slippery Elmer on April 11th, 2008 9:26 pm

    Gracious–why bunt there?

  153. Mike G. on April 11th, 2008 9:27 pm

This situation is made for Bloomquist.

  154. Slippery Elmer on April 11th, 2008 9:28 pm

    See?! He’d've scored anyhow.

    /Hindsight

  155. DKCecil on April 11th, 2008 9:28 pm

    Hey, why not a hit?

  156. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 9:30 pm

Great job of Raul getting the ball in the air. Not so great running the bases there lol.

Richie just needs to come up with a nickname that has an “ooo” sound in it. Who can tell when Raul gets booed?

  159. Rick L on April 11th, 2008 9:32 pm

Green works the 8th. RRS in the 9th?

  160. Slippery Elmer on April 11th, 2008 9:34 pm

“Richie just needs to come up with a nickname that has an ‘ooo’ sound in it.”

    Moooooo-lah

  161. Paul L on April 11th, 2008 9:35 pm

@158: Since McLaren thinks RRS stands for Rockin’ Richie Sexson, I doubt it.

  162. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 9:35 pm

    LOL. Of course.

  163. Rick L on April 11th, 2008 9:36 pm

It amazes me how often pitchers throw wild to a base.

  164. BAT235 on April 11th, 2008 9:36 pm

Wow, Green has a career 3 errors with 8 putouts.

  165. Slippery Elmer on April 11th, 2008 9:37 pm

    WTF is going on?!

  166. JerBear on April 11th, 2008 9:41 pm

    Yeah Beltre!

  167. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:42 pm

    Best defense in the AL.

  168. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 9:44 pm

    Ibanez catches that! Whew.

  169. Paul L on April 11th, 2008 9:44 pm

    Jones would’ve caught that.

  170. jlc on April 11th, 2008 9:44 pm

That’s funny. Four times I tried to post an anti-Richie comment and got kicked off the site. Must not have been alone.

  171. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 9:44 pm

Raul’s game tonight, win or lose.

  172. JerBear on April 11th, 2008 9:45 pm

Thank God. If the bullpen blows another Felix lead I’m gonna be pissed.

  173. Tek Jansen on April 11th, 2008 9:47 pm

I still don’t understand why McLaren has Green pitch to a slew of switch-hitters and lefties.

  174. acer on April 11th, 2008 9:48 pm

Was that Sexy running that fast? Does that blank the error?

  175. fishiam on April 11th, 2008 9:48 pm

He …. was … OUT. But, thank you.

  176. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 9:49 pm

Now that sacrifice made no sense. And Sexson is still allowed to roam the basepaths?

  177. acer on April 11th, 2008 9:50 pm

Ok Kenji, let’s work on that average.

  178. Tek Jansen on April 11th, 2008 9:50 pm

And is there a reason not to pinch-run for Sexson? McLaren combines the worst tendencies of Grover with the worst tendencies of Melvin. Use Bloomquist. See if he can steal the base, then bunt him over if he is successful. What a bad, bad manager Mac is.

  179. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 9:50 pm

As Earl Weaver once said, you can take the sacrifice bunt and shove it up your ass. I’m talking to you, John McLaren.

  180. ProdigalReality on April 11th, 2008 9:50 pm

I demand that Richie Sexson should have his name officially changed to Captain Caveman. I swear I see his lips saying this when he swings.

  181. jlc on April 11th, 2008 9:50 pm

    Finally, the pinch runner.

  182. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:50 pm

Run for Richie after the sacrifice. Cause that makes sense.

  183. JerBear on April 11th, 2008 9:52 pm

    A Cairo sighting!

168- I had a “Boo Sexson” just previous to my “Yeah Beltre” that never made it to the board…

  184. natebracy on April 11th, 2008 9:53 pm

Am I mistaken or do we sacrifice everytime we get the leadoff man to first when the run difference is less than three?

  185. JerBear on April 11th, 2008 9:53 pm

    Joh for an oscar :)

  186. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 9:54 pm

Bust outta that slump in style Kenji!

  187. BAT235 on April 11th, 2008 9:54 pm

    Joltin’ Joh!

  188. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 9:54 pm

    Kenji! Kenji! Kenji!

That thing you saw flying through the air, the monkey off his back.

  189. acer on April 11th, 2008 9:55 pm

Waay to go Kenji!! RBI and batting .500 for the game.

  190. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:55 pm

There it is! The patent Kenji pull double.

  191. Jasper on April 11th, 2008 9:56 pm

You mean the rally monkey off his back right?

  192. draketw206 on April 11th, 2008 9:56 pm

blowers, hahaha… “i dont know if he thought a fan touched it..” on the ball through third base

  193. Slippery Elmer on April 11th, 2008 9:57 pm

    No question about it.

  194. ProdigalReality on April 11th, 2008 9:57 pm

That goes well with an inning earlier of him saying “That kids gonna be the talk of his school tomorrow.”

  195. jlc on April 11th, 2008 9:57 pm

Gee, and I thought another 2 walk night was a step forward for Kenji. Way to break out!

By the way, the fungo commercial is on. Why did the Mariners think it was a good idea to show that almost the whole team is uh, rhythmically challenged?

  196. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 9:58 pm

    Yu-Bet!

  197. BAT235 on April 11th, 2008 9:58 pm

    1st triple of the year!

  198. Russ on April 11th, 2008 9:58 pm

    Who are these guys?

  199. acer on April 11th, 2008 9:59 pm

Oh Yuni I have a crush on you babe!

  200. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 9:59 pm

    Nice contract Hunter. Tee Hee.

  201. draketw206 on April 11th, 2008 9:59 pm

man i love the yuni turning of the bases

  202. jlc on April 11th, 2008 10:02 pm

MARINERS NOW HAVE 12 ERRORS — After the back-to-back mishaps by Green and Sexson. No other AL team had more than nine entering the night.

From the guy covering Baker’s blog.

Just some of that great defense we keep hearing about.

  203. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 10:03 pm

Jose Lopez has a great plate approach this year, it is very enjoyable to watch.

  204. draketw206 on April 11th, 2008 10:04 pm

    1$ on raul RBI

  205. Slippery Elmer on April 11th, 2008 10:05 pm

Ibanez out at first–as close as it gets.

  206. Panev on April 11th, 2008 10:05 pm

Big Whiffy needs to sit a game. Offense, Defense it is all bad.

  207. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 10:06 pm

    Nice replay angle there, Fox.

  208. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 10:06 pm

Hey VETERAN you don’t slide into first. Good thing you know that cause your a veteran and not some young kid who will need to learn that.

  209. Mariners121212 on April 11th, 2008 10:08 pm

So does Mark Lowe get the save opportunity today?

  210. apunetid on April 11th, 2008 10:08 pm

Wow, that was weird. Interesting throw by Ichiro.

  211. acer on April 11th, 2008 10:08 pm

Lopez is a primadonna, how does he give up on that play that fast?

  212. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 10:08 pm

    Matador defense.

  213. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 10:09 pm

Fucking Lopez. Look where the ball is.

  214. Scooter4 on April 11th, 2008 10:09 pm

Yeah, let’s pick out one insignificant thing from the guy who has 3 RBIs in the game.

  215. Breadbaker on April 11th, 2008 10:13 pm

Nice to see Lowe’s velocity apparently back. Hope he can keep healthy. Mac will probably find some way to screw that up.

  216. HamNasty on April 11th, 2008 10:13 pm

Doing something stupid like slowing your self down from getting what could be a very important run since Putz is on the DL and putting himself at injury risk for zero gain. I would say thats ok to point out.

  217. acer on April 11th, 2008 10:13 pm

I would suggest, 207, that the problem the Ms have is they give up on plays and give up on games. Lopez has had a very good offensive game but that’s not and excuse for him to just give up on that play. That kind of play he needs to stick with, Yuni had the base covered, he shouldn’t stand there and watch Ichiro and Yuni complete the play he should have made or at least kept up with after he missed the first catch.

  218. Sports on a Schtick on April 11th, 2008 10:15 pm

I’m guessing Ibanez was still out there in the ninth. Cairo at first(??). At least Wilk showed a good arm.

  219. Mike G. on April 11th, 2008 10:28 pm

I’m guessing Raul slid to avoid a potential tag based on where the pitcher was.

  220. jlc on April 11th, 2008 10:36 pm

206-That was my guess, too. Remember when AJ slid to the outside of the base and just brushed it with his hand?

    {must not make Raul-AJ comparisons, must not make Raul-AJ comparisons, must not make Raul-AJ comparisons}

  221. Mike G. on April 11th, 2008 10:45 pm

Did anybody watching the post game hear Kreuger just say “fagtastic”?

  222. jlc on April 11th, 2008 10:49 pm

208/Mike G.– didn’t watch the post game show, but I’ve got to know the context.

  223. Mike G. on April 11th, 2008 11:11 pm

He just swallowed the ‘N’ in fantastic. Nothing intentional.

  224. Mike G. on April 11th, 2008 11:12 pm

It just gave me a laugh because I apparently have the sense of humor of a 12 year old.

  225. Mike G. on April 11th, 2008 11:54 pm

ESPN has the Mariners in the top 5 in one category…

  226. earinc on April 12th, 2008 12:04 am

There was some weird karma going on tonight. Felix pitched pretty fantastic, yet gives up four ERs, and yet also gets his 1st win. Ichiro somehow misread Matthews’ homer – it seemed like a ball he could have made at least a more solid attempt on, it was weird. You had to wonder if it would doom Felix again. Later, Felix’s incredible horizontal sprawl on a pussy hit leads to nothing but an ER and fear that he separated his shoulder. Let’s face it, the four ERs were a mirage.

But that was just the tip. Ibanez and Weaver, WTF? Then, Wilkerson and Johjima break thru. The Izturis play up the middle keeps it from breaking open. Then the Sean Green error is like the M’s karma trying to pull the cosmos back into balance. Sexson’s error is insult to injury and the kind of thing that makes one leave the room. In the ninth, it’s like deja vu all over again with Lopez’s miss up the middle, a forgivable miscue but also undoubtedly perceived by most fans as somehow as predestined as Charlie Brown, Lucy and the football. But then we won.

Funny aside on Johjima: during his at-bat that yielded the double, Blowers mentioned the 0 for 23. My wife, who doesn’t watch a *lot* of baseball, says, “0 for 23? What is he, Dan Wilson?” I love my wife.

Betancourt continues to be an awesomely fun player to watch. Please get back to your defensive brilliance, Yuni, because you are a player I can get behind. How was his fist pump after the triple *not* the highlight of the game?

Sacrificing Lopez was lame. Sacrificing Wilkerson was probably sadly prudent.
