Both Vidro and Thomas have been underperforming their 2007 numbers. Thomas had a slow start in 2007. So did Vidro. If you assume neither fell off a cliff in the offseason, and expect them both to more or less match their 2007 seasons by the end of 2008, it's not really a contest. Even playing half his games in Safeco, Thomas is the more valuable player.

Unfortunately, that does nothing to solve the corner outfield problem(s).

I wouldn't want to see Frank Thomas in a Mariner uniform going 1-for-100 with a HR and no walks either, but I also wouldn't call that the most likely scenario. On the bright side: under your scenario he won't hit into any double plays.

some valid points in that interview, but I’m sorry i would rather watch vidro hit little blooper’s then see frank thomas go deep like once every 100 at bats, and striking out on all the others

?? Thomas at this stage is an immensely more valuable player, especially considering their shared position in the lineup.

I love how Dave can just pull out “11% of his fly balls are going over the wall” in the Frank Thomas discussion.

Isn't an 11% HR/FB rate league average?

I Had a listen to your spot on KJR. You must have been the champion of your HS debate team. It would be refreshing to see more MLB teams look at their personnel and talent evaluation in the same way USSM does. Vidro really is useless in a line up. He is at best a pinch hitter.
It would be nice to see the Ms go out and get a power left handed DH, but from where? And at what cost? I like what the angels have done with 4 outfielders and those guys being the DH rotation. They keep their outfielders sharp at the plate and their legs rested.

Yeah, Groz is a better and quicker banterer, I agree. But I think by comparison, since this Ian dude wasn't talking much or shooting too many questions at him, it seemed like he was going even faster. The old theory of relativity, you know.

The funny thing is, I think he was talking a little slower this time. Groz seems to pitch stuff at him faster, and he responds.

I love how Dave can just pull out "11% of his fly balls are going over the wall" in the Frank Thomas discussion. I could find that stat, eventually. And yeah, yay for ISO.
