#359. From where do you draw the inference that the Sox feel they're "entitled to some kind of loveable losers tag". Does that claim exist anywhere but your imagination?

356 ... hope springs eternal. The piece reads a little bit like "managers of teams that are doing poorly may be fired soon" (duh) ... but we can always hope.

Would that be the answer to all the problems? No, but it would be a start. If the M's have "motivational" problems then that's part of McLaren's job. Remove him, and if things don't improve then it's that much easier to ask "ok...now what?"

I don't care much for Heyman as a writer, so I'm not putting much stock into this story but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.

I spent seven years in New England. I hated the Red Sox before I moved there, I hated them while I lived there and it has only gotten worse in the meantime. The idea that they still think they're entitled to some kind of lovable losers tag while winning two World Series in four years is mindboggling to me. I told the guy who does my ticket group that this year I didn't want any Red Sox or Yankees tickets. I prefer to avoid their fans.

Having our announcers mispronounce Joh’s and Bedard’s names drives me nuts.

So what is the proper pronunciation of our new pitcher's name?

I thought it was

b-DARD.

or is it

b-DAHR.

I suppose it could be any of these:

BED-ard
BEE-dard
bed-ARGH matey.

This is a hard choice.

I want to see My Beloved Red Sox (TM) play. (And before you say "bandwagon", I was born in Providence and cursed at Calvin Schiraldi for his rotten performance in '86. I own MyBelovedRedSox.com. But I digress.)

But - I really don't want to put money into the pocket of a front office staff that is giving fans the finger.

Do I go, or find a nice bar full of Boston refugees and watch Colon make the Ms look silly?

The only thing that could make this years team intersting to me is if they sent the whole Major League roster to AA and called up the AA roster to the Major League roster. Then I could consider them loveable losers instead of overpayed mediocre veteran losers.

What sucks is having the organisation’s leadership draw parallels between the ‘01 and ‘08 rosters as if predicting reasonable performance is impossible.

Well, it is.

For them.
