    Tied

Bummer. I was hoping for a slam, there.

I really, really want to see what happens if they keep losing. It almost (almost) has to be good.

How else can they really hurt me? Get rid of Ichiro, Felix or Beltre. That’s about it. They can bring in more awful, but that will only hurt if they get rid of one of those three guys. Or Clement, I suppose.

Oh, and they could hire Dusty Baker.

Go Nats! My curiosity is worth more than a win in this wasted season!

    Also,

    Vidro
    Johjima
    Reed
    Cairo
    Bloomquist

…is the single worst 5-man stretch of a line-up that I think I’ve ever seen.

Only Reed has an OPS over .600. And he’s still Reed.

I’m sure the Nats are quaking in their boots.

  5. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 15th, 2008 3:37 pm

Were they booing Dukes, Lowe, or the call?

  6. wlad on June 15th, 2008 3:38 pm

heads are going to roll after the game

  7. Jake on June 15th, 2008 3:39 pm

    They’re booing the organization.

  8. NJ Ms on June 15th, 2008 3:39 pm

McLaren should just go into his office now clean it out and leave before the game is even over.

  9. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 15th, 2008 3:40 pm

56… the roving hitting instructor must go. All pundits predicted this team would make the playoffs.

  10. Jake on June 15th, 2008 3:41 pm

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a Safeco Field crowd act this passionate over a call for this long. Maybe everyone finally realizes what a joke this team is.

  11. NJ Ms on June 15th, 2008 3:41 pm

diving catch Raul now they will think he is a good fielder and never move him…a normal fielder would have caught that on the run without the dive

  12. CC03 on June 15th, 2008 3:42 pm

How do the M’s draw this many fans against the worst team in the NL, and get swept by said team? 35,000+ every game.

Either these fans are die hard fans or just want to be at the park, don’t care who wins.

  13. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 15th, 2008 3:42 pm

The problem is that they’ll blame the call (the correct call, I might add) for losing the game, and McLaren and Bavasi will be given yet more rope.

  14. Jeff Nye on June 15th, 2008 3:43 pm

There’s no way they won’t clean house after getting swept at home by the Nationals, right?

    RIGHT?

  15. RallyFried on June 15th, 2008 3:43 pm

    Dude, it’s Father’s Day

  16. Jake on June 15th, 2008 3:44 pm

I love it that they can do Joe’s Tracer after every pitch, but can’t show a replay of a disputed homerun down the right field line. Way to go Fox Sports.

  17. Scott Lemieux on June 15th, 2008 3:45 pm

Did I miss it, or did FSN not show a single replay of the disputed homer? Is Bavasi and/or McLaren in charge of the broadcast now too?

  18. tomas on June 15th, 2008 3:49 pm

I go away for five minutes to cook a Cup O Noodles, come back and we are DONE.

  19. Hoss1983 on June 15th, 2008 3:50 pm

66- You are so silly. There is not a sponsor for random replays. Perhaps we need the Oberto Meat replay for them to show anything like that.

  20. tomas on June 15th, 2008 3:50 pm

Fox Spin Network. Billy boy must be paying them

  21. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 15th, 2008 3:51 pm

That replay took them long enough. Complete no-brainer call.

  22. tomas on June 15th, 2008 3:54 pm

    Jeff Nye:

It wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t do anything. Right now they’re just hanging on, hoping that the team will start playing better so they can get the spin factory working. Just wait. Towards the end of the season, we’ll win three in a row somehow and someone will say that Bill’s acquisitions needed time to get settled, and next year it’ll all come together.

  23. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 15th, 2008 4:03 pm

Have the Rally Fries been delivered yet?

  24. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 15th, 2008 4:05 pm

Wooo! Swept by one of the worst teams in baseball at home! 21 games under 500! GO M’s!

  25. RallyFried on June 15th, 2008 4:12 pm

    Nye @72

It wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t do anything.

Couldn’t agree more! Nothing that the M’s do or don’t do shocks me anymore.

  26. tomas on June 15th, 2008 4:18 pm

And on top of that, they haven’t planned for this. This was supposed to be THE year. So I wouldn’t expect anything to happen. They need to form some committees, send out some focus groups, find out who the most politically correct candidate is, have some aromatherapy sessions, consult astrological charts, form some sub-committees, do some tai chi…and so on and so forth….

  27. msb on June 15th, 2008 4:28 pm

Well instead of telling the media why don’t they say something to Joh or Mac?

notice that it wasn’t a Mariner executive commenting on Joh that Rosenthal was quoting, it was an executive from another team. Why Rosenthal was talking about Joh to the executive of another team ….

  28. DMZ on June 15th, 2008 4:33 pm

Man, under 100 comments on a game thread with no site outage.

I hope everyone went out and enjoyed the nice weather — I have to admit I went biking this morning and didn’t get back until the game was underway.

  29. msb on June 15th, 2008 4:38 pm

I went with my dad to lunch, and then (big sport that I am) ponied up for a sunday drive in the lovely weather, with the radio off.

  30. Jeff Nye on June 15th, 2008 4:40 pm

    I shopped for fencing gear.

My geekery isn’t confined just to baseball.

  31. msb on June 15th, 2008 4:42 pm

ok, (now that I know what he looks like) I am envisioning Jeff, with epee.

  32. Breadbaker on June 15th, 2008 5:03 pm

Just got back from the game. Bottom of the ninth and we have Reed, Cairo and Bloomquist up. Reed starts it off with a single and apparently we have no one on the bench better than Cairo or Bloomquist.

Did McLaren die and they just didn’t bother to announce it?

  33. westcoastseattleboy23 on June 15th, 2008 7:29 pm

Could I get some help please? I was at the game and saw the Casto home run (in my opinion) go foul. Is there anyone that can tell me what the replay showed, because I am still baffled by what happened.

  34. Jeff Nye on June 15th, 2008 7:43 pm

ok, (now that I know what he looks like) I am envisioning Jeff, with epee.

Amusingly enough, I’m in the midst of converting from primarily foil to primarily epee.

So, it’s a pretty accurate picture!

  35. msb on June 15th, 2008 8:30 pm

it hit the foul pole and flipped foul, but still counts as a HR

  36. pgreyy on June 15th, 2008 11:08 pm

That’s why announcers who think they’re clever use the phrase “fair pole.”
