Game 75, Mariners at Braves

Carlos Silva! v Tim Hudson. 10:30.

Interstate 75, which hits Atlanta
… uhhh, that’s all I have. Not a particularly interesting number, it would seem.

Update: wow, second game in the Riggleman Era and he turns in one of the worst lineups of the year, and that is a tough challenge for him to take on:

Ichiro-L
Bloomquist-R
Ibanez-L
Vidro-B
Reed-L
Betancourt-R
Clement-L
Cairo-0
Silva

I know Beltre’s out, but… this is as deliberately bad as anything McLaren ever turned in.

If you tuned in, saw that lineup, weighed the likely outcomes with Silva pitching, and turned off the TV, I wouldn’t blame you at all.

Larry Stone, in the Times:

I think I’m going to revive my “reverse lock” theory of a couple of weeks ago and call another Mariners’ victory, because this lineup shouldn’t have a prayer against Hudson.

Drayer just ran down the line-up, and among the highlights (ahem.) are Willie B batting (and playing) 2nd, and Vidro at 1st.

  2. tgf on June 22nd, 2008 9:59 am

Maybe we should get some torches and pitchforks and “run down the lineup” ourselves.

  3. JI on June 22nd, 2008 10:02 am

    This lineup is hilarious.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd on June 22nd, 2008 10:08 am

Okay, the honeymoon is over. Let the Riggleman hate begin.

  5. IMFletcher on June 22nd, 2008 10:15 am

I can see the importance of having having two pinch runners on your roster — that start games. /sarcasm

The only explanation is either names out of a hat or a travel-sized “The Price is Right” wheel to determine this lineup.

  6. Chris on June 22nd, 2008 10:20 am

Is Vidro really hitting 4th??? You have got to be kidding me. Why not put Willie BOOM BOOM in there to clean up? Yikes.

  7. Elwood P. Dowd on June 22nd, 2008 10:21 am

At first I thought the kittens might be eating Interstate 75, sort of a low budget “Godzilla” type offering.

  8. north on June 22nd, 2008 10:24 am

Cairo Vidro Bloom.. and Silva in lineup.

I’ve seen enough of this game before the first pitch. Back this evening to see what happened. Best of luck to those bold enough to follow the travesty.

  9. wlad on June 22nd, 2008 10:32 am

the lineup is laughable. vidro…. why?

  10. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 10:37 am

Can someone please give me a reason to watch this game?

  11. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 10:38 am

    Clement hitting seventh?

  12. Jay R. on June 22nd, 2008 10:39 am

    Vidro batting cleanup. Really?

    Clownshoes.

  13. SDRE on June 22nd, 2008 10:40 am

Really weak, no power. Put your small ball hat on. Where’s Lopez?

  14. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 10:40 am

    Lineup of DOOM!

    RF-L Ichiro!
    2B-R WFB
    LF-L Ibanez
    1B-S Turbo
    CF-L Reed
    SS-R Betancourt
    C-R Clement
    3B-R Cairo
    P-R Silva

    Vs.

    CF-L Blanco
    SS-R Infante
    2B-L Johnson
    1B-S Teixeira
    C-L McCann
    RF-S Norton
    3B-S Gotay
    LF-L Jones
    P-R Hudson

  15. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 10:42 am

Oh, you have to be kidding me. I’m going to miss Felix Vs Johan tomorrow. :(

    Thank god for DVR.

  16. OscarM on June 22nd, 2008 10:43 am

Perhaps Mr. Riggleman is tired of losing close games.

  17. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 10:44 am

What’s with the shades on Vidro? It looks cloudy there.

  18. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 10:50 am

The 4 lefties in the lineup look pretty good: Ichiro, Ibanez, Reed, Clement. Why do the M’s insist on alternating them with out machines? I understand that alternating L-R makes it hard to gain a platoon advantage later in the game, but when the right-handed hitters in your lineup are Bloomquist, Vidro, Betancourt, Cairo, who cares?

I don’t understand resting Lopez when you have Beltre hurt.

At least we have a decent bench today….Beltre, Lopez, Johjima, Sexson. Best bench we’ve had in 7 years.

  19. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 10:51 am

Maybe Riggleman is trying to help Silva by putting a better infield out there. Bloomquist is probably an upgrade over Lopez, especially in the range department. And Vidro at 1B is an …. oh, never mind.

  20. NJ Ms on June 22nd, 2008 10:52 am

1-2-3 in the 1st the glass is half full big Carlos is back!

    Time for another drink!

  21. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 10:53 am

What’s with the shades on Vidro? It looks cloudy there.

The glare off clouds can sometimes be worse than when it is sunny (unless of course you are looking right into the sun), making it hard to pick up the ball. Shades with polarizing helps to see the ball with that same color background with glare.

  22. mearls on June 22nd, 2008 10:55 am

Riggles is a genius. This lineup is clearly his answer to the M’s most pressing question: who can he bring in to close out a close game?

    Problem solved!

  23. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 10:56 am

Hudson is 0-10 in interleague games…..I’ll bet he likes the M’s lineup!

  24. Madison Mariner on June 22nd, 2008 10:58 am

For all the good a decent bench does when you have Miguel Cairo starting at 3B…

  25. NJ Ms on June 22nd, 2008 11:00 am

Carlos looks thrilled to be batting

  26. SDRE on June 22nd, 2008 11:01 am

It cool how Silva look’s like a hitter in the on-deck circle but not at the plate

  27. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 11:04 am

Given that the M’s lineup is geared to score zero runs, that might be the ballgame.

  28. msb on June 22nd, 2008 11:04 am

Tex thrilled to have Carlos back on the mound.

  29. NJ Ms on June 22nd, 2008 11:05 am

jeez Tex eyes got so big when he saw that pitch thought they were going to come out of his head

  30. msb on June 22nd, 2008 11:05 am

gosh. did you know that McCann & Francour grew up in the Atlanta area?

  31. tomas on June 22nd, 2008 11:05 am

Niehaus: “Every left handed batter alive hits that ball out.”

    Hehe

  32. argh on June 22nd, 2008 11:06 am

Good slo mo shot of Teixeira’s eyes tracking that pitch as it came in.

  33. msb on June 22nd, 2008 11:07 am

so, someone want to remind Silva he is a groundball pitcher?

    see? like that….

  34. Sentinel on June 22nd, 2008 11:08 am

    Dear Carlos,

Please quit putting grooved fastballs into the wheelhouse of each lefty that comes to the plate. Thanks.

    Sincerely,

    Every M’s Fan Alive

  35. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 11:08 am

Wow. Give credit there. Great play by Boom Boom.

  36. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 11:09 am

Nice play Willie…that’s a play I’ve seen Lopez NOT make all season.

  37. NJ Ms on June 22nd, 2008 11:09 am

    nice play WFB!!

  38. joser on June 22nd, 2008 11:09 am

Cripes, Rizzs on the radio is still talking about Bloomquist’s double play.

  39. Steve T on June 22nd, 2008 11:12 am

Great. We’re going to be stuck with a .580 OPS 2B for the rest of the season.

  40. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 11:18 am

    OUCH.

  41. Steve T on June 22nd, 2008 11:18 am

Willie now at 64 AB without an XBH, Mariner record holder and most by any player in the past decade.

  42. sm3346 on June 22nd, 2008 11:19 am

Um…I think that the entire Mariner’s community just did that to Vidro…

  43. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 11:19 am

Let that be a lesson not to lean over the plate and offer at a bad pitch, Turbo.

  44. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 11:20 am

Better than having a .587 OPS clean up hitter…

  45. Steve T on June 22nd, 2008 11:22 am

Don, being kicked in the groin is better than being stabbed in the lung, too.

Kelly Johnson, famous airplane designer responsible for the F-104 Starfighter, SR-71, and U-2 (among others) is spending his afterlife playing for the Braves?

  47. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 11:29 am

God, do I miss Chick-fil-A. Wonderful.

  48. Phightin Phils on June 22nd, 2008 11:30 am

The M’s should concentrate on just 6 innings…like little league. Last night was a 6 inning “pitchers gem” victory. Today, they can bring their strong bench out in the 5th, and wrap things up in the 6th. They can treat the remaining 3 innings as extra BP and fielding practice. And they get to feel good about those 6 innings, and the clubhouse chemistry is all goodness cuz of the extra 3 innings of work.

  49. joser on June 22nd, 2008 11:31 am

    Way to take pitches, Yuni.

  50. dingdangdo on June 22nd, 2008 11:31 am

Chick-fil-a put that crazy cow out there, maybe Beacon Plumbing will build Safeco a giant toilet bowl in the outfield….

  51. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 11:32 am

The question is: how does a major league manager realistically expect to generate runs with a lineup that has 4 guys with an OPS of less than .600 in it, and putting 2 of those in the #2 and #4 hole?

The 4 best OPS’s in our lineup today are batting #5, #3, #1, #6. Ridiculous, IMO.

  52. zvazda on June 22nd, 2008 11:34 am

The 4 best OPS’s in our lineup today are batting #5, #3, #1, #6. Ridiculous, IMO.

5 and 6 are together… what more do you want?

  53. Steve T on June 22nd, 2008 11:34 am

Well, if you bat your only half-decent hitters together in a row, you might accidentally start a rally, which would overexcite the kids. Better to ensure that you’ll always get to three outs before you get to three hitters. Grampa’s taking a nap, doesn’t want any hollering.

  54. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 11:34 am

Wow, Hudson has got to be pumped!!!

  55. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 11:36 am

    Typical.

  56. enazario on June 22nd, 2008 11:37 am

    BP time!

  57. Steve T on June 22nd, 2008 11:37 am

Teixiera appears to have Silva’s number. Three pitches, two in the strike zone, two home runs.

  58. Phightin Phils on June 22nd, 2008 11:38 am

Ha! “Guys are running up to the plate now”, says our announcer.

  59. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 11:38 am

    Whhheeeeeee!!!

Don’t worry, assuming Silva survives this inning, we get him hitting lead off to start the rally.

  60. Madison Mariner on June 22nd, 2008 11:39 am

Shall we go for a trifecta, Senor Silva?

    Yeesh, I’d hate to see Silva’s Strat-O-Matic card….roll 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10, and it’s a home run to the opposing batter, probably.

  61. joser on June 22nd, 2008 11:39 am

See how that works, Carlos? Major league hitters can hit meatballs. You might get lucky the first time through the lineup, but it’s not going to last.

Also: Great, now we’re never going to be able to shut up those folks who want to throw stupid money at Teixeira in the offseason.

  62. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 11:40 am

Silva has only thrown 50 pitches.

    Granted two were for HRs.

  63. argh on June 22nd, 2008 11:41 am

    assuming Silva survives this inning

I’d leave him out there to twist in the wind. At the money’s he’s making they ought to pitch him till he drops.

  64. enazario on June 22nd, 2008 11:43 am

I am told that many Mariner pitchers will attend the All Star game…for the Home Run contest.

  65. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 11:44 am

Sims and Blowers are talking about who would close for the M’s right now with Putz on the DL and Morrow still in Seattle. Meanwhile, it’s 4-0 Braves.

  66. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 11:46 am

Sims is in rare form today:

“Silva gets out of this, he can turn it over to the offense”.

  67. Phightin Phils on June 22nd, 2008 11:46 am

There was a point there where Silva gave up 9 bases in 3 pitches.

I miss that Felix inning of 9 pitches with 3 strikeouts.

  68. mln on June 22nd, 2008 11:46 am

Did Willie just break the team record for most ABs without an XBH?

Shouldn’t we stop the game and have a little ceremony or something?

And why didn’t Bud Selig come and attend this game? He’s stiffing Willie just like he did for Bonds’ homerun chase.

  69. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 11:46 am

Nice try at the Belre impression, Cairo. Next time, just step on the fucking bag and get the force instead of almost throwing it away.

  70. ChicksDiggtheLongBall on June 22nd, 2008 11:47 am

What’s the over/under on how long it takes before the pitching staff starts to blame Clement for their sorry performances?

  71. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 11:47 am

“Silva gets out of this, he can turn it over to the offense”.

I wish we could get out of Silva’s contract.

  72. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 11:49 am

down 4-0 this is an auto loss situation for this line-up… time to try some fun things; If Ichiro gets on, see if he can steal ALL the bases..

Recently, I’m starting to feel that my relationship with the mariners is something of a one way street. How about a little reciprocation fellas? I’m not asking much, just a walk here, a nicely wrapped 6-4-3 double play there….. Or, better yet, how bout’ Howard Lincon straps fifty pounds of dynamite to a vest and “stands in” on the next team meeting….. yea mariners

  77. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 11:57 am

Why pull Silva??? Did he get hurt or hungry?

  78. argh on June 22nd, 2008 11:58 am

I wish we could get out of Silva’s contract

Like I said, pitch him till his rotator cuff is torn down to his pelvis. Don’t they typically get salary insurance for these guys in case of unfortunate season-ending injuries?

  79. argh on June 22nd, 2008 11:59 am

Ooops. Too late to rip up any of Silva’s rotators today.

  80. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 12:00 pm

Maybe Silva can drop a suitcase on his foot.

  84. bonesbarry on June 22nd, 2008 12:07 pm

In reference to the Bravo’s Sunday red’s…… Once they field a team worth a crap, would I be the only one excited to see those 1996 teal jersey’s make a comeback? I really liked those

  85. Axtell on June 22nd, 2008 12:07 pm

Did every mariners manager go to the same school of composing lineups?

  86. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 12:08 pm

    Vidro, Reed, Yuni…

    FEAR US!!!

  87. enazario on June 22nd, 2008 12:10 pm

I love how Dave Sims gets excited over “well stung” balls that one hop in the infield.

  88. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 12:12 pm

That inning’s pitch count should allow Hudson to go Complete Game.

  89. mikeym on June 22nd, 2008 12:13 pm

I blame Bedard for Silva’s outing. If L’Intervieux sets the example by not throwing more than 100 pitches an outing, how can the other guys be expected to throw more than 60?

  90. Paul B on June 22nd, 2008 12:13 pm

On the positive side, Riggleman is clearly no genius. The M’s will continue their losing ways. And we get to spin the Big Wheel O’ Managers in the offseason and see if we can get lucky.

  91. enazario on June 22nd, 2008 12:14 pm

I love Dave Sims he cracks himself up. You have to be high to cover these games.

  104. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 12:33 pm

    Just woke up.
Vidro hitting fourth, Bloomquist hitting second, Clement hitting 7th.
Tex has hit 3 HR’s and the Mariners still can’t hit.

Riggleman, you know Mac is fired right? He can’t do anything if you fix the suck that was his line-up card.

  105. joser on June 22nd, 2008 12:34 pm

In the old days (like, last year) that Animal House quote would inevitably prompt a “correction” from the pop-culture impaired. These days, when the entire online following for the M’s would fit into a small padded cell (and belongs their), we diehards are either so hip or so apathetic that it just prompts crickets.

will that be the only Mariners commercial featuring multiple people that have been fired?

“Fired” maybe, but there have been commercials with two players who were no longer with the team by the end of that season.

Meanwhile, somewhere there are guys with Teixeira on their fantasy teams who are going to look at their scores tonight and go “What the… oh, the Braves were playing the Mariners

  106. Phightin Phils on June 22nd, 2008 12:37 pm

Riggleman, you know Mac is fired right?

Riggleman is probably engaging in a bit of jealousy over McLaren’s current situation right now.

  107. Go Felix on June 22nd, 2008 12:37 pm

Any other left fielder would have caught that.

  108. joser on June 22nd, 2008 12:38 pm

Rizzs on the radio: “The Mariners have been so inconsistent at the plate, when at the start of the season everybody thought the offense would be one of the strengths of the ballclub.”

  109. mikeym on June 22nd, 2008 12:38 pm

Silva left because he was brought on to be an “innings eater.” That means while the team is on the field playing innings, his job is to eat.

  110. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 12:39 pm

“Fired” maybe, but there have been commercials with two players who were no longer with the team by the end of that season.

sorry joser, got the reference, was trying to set up a teixeira dropping bombs punchline, came up blank. I clearly overreached on that one

  113. argh on June 22nd, 2008 12:40 pm

Riggleman, you know Mac is fired right? He can’t do anything if you fix the suck that was his line-up card.

Yeah, with an optimum line up the Ms might only be down 8-1 here. The only thing harder than trading our #1 starter Bedard may turn out to be finding someone in baseball suicidal enough to want to take these GM and manager jobs. Seriously. This team is in worse shape than Pearl Harbor after the Germans bombed it.

  114. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 12:42 pm

Hudson has to feel good about getting his first interleague win….of course, it was a gimme against that lineup.

  115. LordLes on June 22nd, 2008 12:44 pm

Let’s see them Riggle their way out of this one. I think I’ll Riggle on over to the fridge and get a pastrami sandwhich. Then I’ll Riggle back to my makeshift living room bed, Riggle under the covers, and love all the Riggleness.

#98: That is a depressing thought.

  116. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 12:46 pm

Ha. Well I have heard…”rumors”…that Forst really wants to be a GM, and is interested in our job. Thats good news. As for trading Bedard…its gonna be cake. Red, Cubs, Brewers, Yankees, Chi Sox, and Cardinals all looking for a TOR pitcher, there is going to be some serious bidding wars going on. The loser of C.C will be sprinting to us.

  117. JerBear on June 22nd, 2008 12:46 pm

If I hear another f***ing announcer lump Beltre in with the rest of the M’s FA busts, I’m gonna smack someone.

  118. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 12:49 pm

Riggles may be worse than McLaren

    1. Probably not, although his lineups aren’t any better so far, that’s for sure. However, he may be trying to “highlight” some of our players, such as Bloomquist.
    2. It’s probably for the best anyway. I mean, how excited would you be if the Mariners played .500 ball for the rest of the year and they named Riggleman manager for 2009?

  119. argh on June 22nd, 2008 12:52 pm

    Re: 110

I hope you’re right about Bedard. I’m afraid though that his ‘exposure’ with the Mariners this season has demonstrated to the rest of baseball that not only is the Emperor naken but his junk’s not real impressive either.

  120. Madison Mariner on June 22nd, 2008 12:52 pm

Shall we go for a trifecta, Senor Silva?

When I said that earlier, I meant 3 consecutive home runs in the 4th inning(back when Teixeira and McCann hit their home runs).

Of course, it works equally well if I remove “Senor Silva” and replace it with “Mariners’ pitching staff”.

So of course people are going to clamor for the M’s to sign Teixeira this offseason.

  121. Benne on June 22nd, 2008 12:55 pm

. Probably not, although his lineups aren’t any better so far, that’s for sure. However, he may be trying to “highlight” some of our players, such as Bloomquist.

What is there to “highlight” about Boom Boom? He is what he is–a 25th man. Teams are laughing at us for playing him regularly, and they will laugh even harder if we try to trade him and expect to get any decent value.

  122. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 22nd, 2008 12:56 pm

Would it be acceptable if I referred to our new manager as Riggles the Clown? It has a nice ring to it.

  123. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 12:56 pm

What the HELL is this pitcher doing? Does he have something stuck?

  124. joser on June 22nd, 2008 12:57 pm

Clement! Highlight of the game, easily. That was no cheap shot, either, in dead centerfield in this park.

  125. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 12:57 pm

    JEFFFFFFFFFFFF!

1st homer of 2008 straight away center field

  126. Carson on June 22nd, 2008 12:57 pm

Thank you, Clement. Now we get to see this pitcher wiggle his ass again.

  127. Benne on June 22nd, 2008 12:58 pm

Monkey off back, thy name is Clement.

  128. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 12:59 pm

116, I agree, but I’ve heard that there are some NL teams that are interested in him. He actually would fit better in the NL, as he is an ideal player for a double-switch, plays a decent defense, and is an OK base-stealer and an excellent base runner.

  129. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 1:00 pm

Boy, the Braves sure have a lousy defense….

  130. Madison Mariner on June 22nd, 2008 1:01 pm

    Oh my darling Clement-time!

(Sorry, had to do it once.)

  131. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:01 pm

Yeah Gonzalez looks pretty ridiculous. You know the fact that I even have to watch Cairo and Bloomquist on this team is torture enough. But in the same game, same inning? Lordly lou.

  132. MrIncognito on June 22nd, 2008 1:02 pm

A story on Betancourt from America’s Finest News Source, for thsoe who are interested.

  133. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:03 pm

    Little bleeder there.

  134. Benne on June 22nd, 2008 1:04 pm

I take back everything I said. Princess Willie is the greatest player of all time. Let’s trade him for Albert Pujols immediately.

  135. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:05 pm

I don’t belive Gonzalez threw a strike that AB.

  136. joser on June 22nd, 2008 1:06 pm

    Oh my darling Clement-time!

Would make kind of a cool Safeco ditty for them to play after his dingers, if he starts hitting them regularly like he should. They could put the words up for sing-along instead of “funk blast” — “That ball is gone for-ever….(my) oh my darling Clement-time”

Sorry, I must’ve snorted some marketingdust with my morning coffee.

  137. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 1:06 pm

    Another single for Willie B

  138. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 1:07 pm

Willie now tied for 30th (non-pitchers since 1958) for most AB’s (66) without an XBH. Tied with immortals Ellie Rodriguez and Ossie Blanco (who?).

  139. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:07 pm

Hey can we release Vidro now after another night of failure?

  140. zvazda on June 22nd, 2008 1:07 pm

    Has this already been mentioned?

It was a little scary, funny, sad and infuriating all at the same time.

  141. joser on June 22nd, 2008 1:09 pm

Yeah, we had a link to that Onion bit in another thread. But it has, as they say, been OBE.

  142. joser on June 22nd, 2008 1:12 pm

    Has this already been mentioned?

yep. But it got buried by the firing-news avalanche.

  143. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:14 pm

Krueger: Silva just got a little unlucky today, Willie Bloomquist is a really really good player who needs to see more playing time…

  144. Colm on June 22nd, 2008 1:15 pm

Well, the one thing about this game that we can take to heart is this:
Derek was worried that Riggleman would exhibit at least marginal competence and would, as such, look like Earl Weaver when compared to John McLaren – and that would make it much harder for a new GM to let him go.
This lineup, and this game, should ease his worries.

Good lord, these people are paid in a week what I earn in a year and they can’t even grasp what a halfway intelligent monkey will grasp from reading USS Mariner for a week. I’m with Jerry Crasnick, put Derek and Dave in charge. And make Jeff Sullivan hitting coach.

  145. scott19 on June 22nd, 2008 1:16 pm

Willie now tied for 30th (non-pitchers since 1958) for most AB’s (66) without an XBH. Tied with immortals Ellie Rodriguez and Ossie Blanco (who?).

Gee, I wonder if the legendary Mario Mendoza was even that inept?

  146. RallyFried on June 22nd, 2008 1:17 pm

Hey can we release Vidro now after another night of failure?

Nope, that would make way to much sense. He will hit 3rd or 4th for the rest of the season.

  147. LordLes on June 22nd, 2008 1:17 pm

    Krueger looks PISSED!

  148. scott19 on June 22nd, 2008 1:19 pm

Niehaus just said that “you gotta wonder about Carlos Silva”.

Yeah, I’m wondering why the M’s signed him in the first place.

  149. Phightin Phils on June 22nd, 2008 1:19 pm

Soon we’ll read FSN producers, etc, off the record comments about how veteran baseball insiders like Krueger don’t take that extra thought process before opening their mouth.

  150. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:24 pm

don’t take that extra thought process before opening their mouth.

    ESPN analyst?

  151. edgar for mayor on June 22nd, 2008 1:26 pm

    Good match-up tomorrow.

    Felix vs Santana.

  152. Colm on June 22nd, 2008 1:28 pm

    Wooo.
And Met’s lineup vs M’s lineup too.

  153. don52656 on June 22nd, 2008 1:28 pm

Offense totally overmatched by Hudson today. Tomorrow, Johan Santana. Look for Willie to be in CF tomorrow. Look for Felix to lose a pitcher’s duel.

  154. scott19 on June 22nd, 2008 1:29 pm

And, just like the old days, Tim Hudson seems to still have the M’s number…

Though back in old days, the M’s would at least find a way once in a while to win the other games in the series that he wasn’t pitching.

  155. Phightin Phils on June 22nd, 2008 2:01 pm

edgar for mayor — sorry, I shouldn’t take frustration out on FSN. Tough season…was looking forward to a nice summer of enjoyable baseball.

sorry, I shouldn’t take frustration out on FSN. Tough season…was looking forward to a nice summer of enjoyable baseball.

No its ok, I was just making a joke ;) . I don’t enjoy the FSN broadcasters anymore than the next guy. They are on TV to entertain the average fan, and so they really don’t have to be that much smarter than that fan. They bother me sometimes, but I just laugh at them, cuss and walk away.

  157. Breadbaker on June 22nd, 2008 2:55 pm

Look for Felix to lose a pitcher’s duel.

Felix is the only Mariner with the ability to rise to an occasion. 27 strikeouts in 81 pitches may be needed, though, and perhaps he’ll have to hit a home run himself to win it.

  158. msb on June 22nd, 2008 3:30 pm

don’t forget the scintillating friday match-up …. Washburn vs Baek.

  159. jzalman on June 22nd, 2008 3:32 pm

Felix. Ohhhh Felix. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways….

A lot tougher than facing washburn, me thinks
