I wonder, will we ever know if ChuckEHowie were the ones who nixed the latest attempts to work out a trade re: Ibanez and Washburn and even Beltre?

It's hard to imagine Lee Pelekoudas made a decision on his own to reject the offers from Toronto, the Mets, and the Twins.

Maybe Geoff Baker can put his "investigative reporter" hat on and dig up some info on that. Then we can set up a picket line outside the Safeco Field executive office entrance/exit. Hopefully it won't turn into a mini-WorldTrade-type riot... :)

I'm not the smartest person around so maybe someone can answer this foir me. If the non-waiver trade deadline ends at 4pm EST on July 31st, could a team put someone on the waiver list at 4:01 EST on July 31st or would they have to wait until August 1st.

My reasoning for this is if a team really wanted to sneak someone through waivers why wouldn't they try it then. Some teams may be caught napping and you may be able to get the player through without him being claimed. Then you would be free to do what ever you wanted with him. Just a thought.

I’d be surprised if Ibanez didn’t find a multi-year offer somewhere else and decline arbitration.

Part of me thinks he'll only get one-year offers from other clubs because of his age and declining skills. Maybe one year + a team option with a modest (i.e. 1 mil or less) buyout.

Guess I'm just more pessimistic on that than some people are...

Sorry, but given the stupidity involved with not offering Guillen arbitration, I can very well think the Mariner front office could screw up getting decent draft picks for Ibanez.

Who said that? Raul? The M’s?

I think maybe that DMZ is being kind to those of us who are skeptical for no real logical reason, just fatalism.

In my defense, it's learned fatalism, but still...

If you're betting real money, bet on DMZ's take. If, like myself, you're wagering fake-internet-currency of bitterness, then bet we never see those picks.

That’s pretty much assured to happen, though obviously others disagree.

If you waive a dude and he's claimed, you're off the hook for their salary.

If Raul declines arb or signs somewhere else before he has to make a decision, they get the picks. That's pretty much assured to happen, though obviously others disagree.
