New thread for the last little bit of the deadline rumors. Is Bay going to Tampa? Will Manny end up in LA? Will the M’s come to their senses and just give Washburn away?
We’ll find out soon enough.
I’m nervous with anticipation. Actually, I was more amped on Saturday when the Washburn for Melky deal looked like a lock. Then it dragged on, and I ran out of patience.
ESPN’s trade deadline blog suggests the deadline’s irrelevant to the Washburn trade; with 10+ mil owed next season, he’s going to clear waivers.

Rumor has the Jays interested in Ibanez.
On a side note, it “feels” like the server is dying a slow and painful death…
Especially since if someone DOES claim him to try and block a trade, the M’s would strongly consider just saying “OK, fine, he’s yours now! Bye!”

Bay was traded to the Rays for Brignac and Neimann according to the ESPN blog
Looks like the Rays got Bay. For Brignac and Neimann. Good for them.
If Washburn for Melky was ever a real possibility, the M’s just should’ve pulled the trigger and let Wash go.
I tend to think it wasn’t. I’m not sure you can believe anything you read in the media around this time of year. Read everything on the subject with a hefty dose of doubt.

Bay to Tampa makes a lot of sense for both clubs. Brignac and Niemann could help Pittsburgh, but that’s a great trade for Tampa if they can pull it off.
I agree, I think this is mutually beneficial. Brignac might have had one year starting with Tampa, but JBar is better at the moment and Tim Beckham is their future at the position.

Apparently someone in the Mariners FO had “second thoughts”. Second thoughts? Jesus… if they made a fair offer, and indications are they came closer by far than anyone had to what the M’s wanted for him, trade him! Second thoughts?!

Were the “2-for-” the equivalent of two high draft picks? If not, no loss. (Unless Ibanez accepts arbitration or the M’s offer an extension… ugh.)
Jayson Stark is saying the M’s called off the Ibanez deal at the last minute.
So bummed about the Raul trade falling through. I had a whole post about how exciting it was, that it signaled a real commitment to change…

On a day they could have done so much more if they had anyone in the organization capable of thinking outside the box, the Mariners remain the laughingstock of baseball:
Around 1PM Peter Gammons called the Mariners “the big losers at the trade deadline, saying, “The Rangers and A’s have both picked up a ton of good young talent in the last year. I don’t think Seattle realizes just how far behind the rest of the division they really are. It could be a long four or five years in Seattle.”
Great! Another four or five years of last place finishes…that’s something to look forward to. Now if they can hire Brian Cashman in the winter that could all change, but I guess we’ll have to wait on that…
Count me as happy for not dealing Ibanez’s draft picks….I don’t care about anything Ibanez does this year, and I can’t imagine getting a return more valuable than two high picks.
Cashman? You mean the guy who apparently wasn’t disgusted by the thought of giving Washburn $13 mil for next year? No thanks.
Arbitration does not need to be offered to free agents until the deadline in December.
In all likelihood, Ibañez would already have signed a new contract as a free agent by that point allowing the Mariner to offer arbitration with no possibility of it being accepted.
