When ever I hear people carping about Bedard not talking I think about Steve Carleton. I loved the way he stiffed the press. Barry Bonds too.

I feel about the press about the same way Lee Elia feels (or at least is on the record) about the Chicago fans.

I agree, I really don’t care if a player talks to reporters. I care how he performs (which can, in certain cases, include off-field behavior).

As far as Washburn’s comments, I took it as a veiled slap at his teammates, which is lame.

I’m not exactly sure what he meant, though. He says he’s not mad about the lack of run support, it’s “something else”, which doesn’t show signs of solving itself.

Which tells me it’s not the offense — they have made changes there (Vidro, Sexson, Johjima). Is it defense he’s mad about? Raul playing LF? Yuni sucking at SS? Not getting backrubs before the games?

I have no idea whether Randy Johnson used to talk to Bob Finnigan regularly or not, and I just don’t care.

I believe the answer is not, and it wasn’t made a big deal of … some one commented when the subject first came up (Stone? maybe?) that there are always guys who don’t talk, and you just know to work around it

Yea, there’s nothing wrong with what Washburn said in that article.

On a side note, how on earth did reporters get away with turning whether athletes talk to them or not a regular story? Seriously, did anyone have any idea who talked to the media after every start before Geoff Baker got here and made that his tool of analysis du jour? I have no idea whether Randy Johnson used to talk to Bob Finnigan regularly or not, and I just don’t care.

Just like I don’t care that Washburn and Silva talk and Bedard doesn’t. None of this matters to anyone except the writers.

I disagree on that Washburn comment – I think he is mad at losing (understandably) and knows that if he sits and talks to the media, he will say something that he regrets or that he doesn’t really mean. We have all been there, I am sure. So they asked him about the lack of run support, and he said that he wasn’t going to blame it. Then he shut up, because he probably would have blamed it if he had kept talking.

Since my b’day is coming up on Sunday, I decided to treat myself to a Felix Day game a few days early. It was almost a throwback of sorts to the way that games were supposed to be at the Safe: crisp, close, well-pitched and well-played. Both Felix and Sonnanstine were completely dialed in, and it was an absolute joy to watch.

And like a few others have mentioned, I just had a good feeling about RAUUUUUUUUL tonight!

What a great game to watch from section 128, row 32. Felix Day! Sonanstine Day!

It was a little odd to see our boys jumping around to celebrate going 25 games under .500, but it was simply an outstanding game to watch.

My son Kyle called Raul’s walk off funk blast before it happened, which was pretty cool.

Great ballpark. Great game. Great garlic fries. Great Vidro-less team (is it just me, or is the vibe entirely different without Turbo?)

This was a transitional game for us, as we’re headed to a small town about an hour out of Tampa so my wife can regain her health. It’s been great being part of this community, and I look forward to being one of its further-flung members when I get connectivity at the new place, which is currently supposed to be the 18th.

Godspeed to you all until we meet again, and thanks for all the fish..

Washburn’s a douche. He firmly established that when he tried to blame his suckitude on Kenji.

The greatest irony here, of course, is that he has the defense to thank for a large part of that shiny last two month ERA.

Trade him!
