Smith versus…Smith? Sounds intriguing.
*cue dramatic music*
DMZ… So what you’re saying is that you’re super excited about this game? heheh
I guess you could say you bet Smith will win and you’ll be right. I hope Rowland-Smith does will but I don’t want the M’s to win. I’m so confused right now. Go Nat’s.
09-
Both Smith’s might get a no decision…
boy, that reminds me of many a Mariner game.
J. Moyer 6.2, 1 ER, ND.
Both Smith’s might get a no decision…
Both Suzukis might hit home runs…
well, if they don’t get Strasburg, we now know who to blame.
Apparently 25 percent of the total Mariner offence is Raul Ibanez.
Prediction:
Mariners end the season with the second-worst record in baseball (USSM readers pop Prozac)
On draft day, the Nationals skip over Strasburg because of “signability issues” (USSM readers rejoice)
The M’s, picking next, skip him as well “because we want to go in another direction” — ie, they don’t want to anger the Commish by blowing the slot.
(USSM readers slit wrists)
I realized the whole no-decision thing after I typed it.
8-
He’s starting Cairo so we can get one game closer to Strasburg.
Apparently, Ibanez’s total “runs accounted for” equals 25% of the Mariners season total.
Hey, if you cancel out both Smiths then it’s our pitcher Rowland vs. no one at all! This one should be easy.
For anyone else listening to KOMO–am I the only one who finds the Muckleshoot Casino guy with the fake accent extremely annoying?
I Heart Beltre
15-
About as annoying as Pat O’Day
boy, with these two dynamic offenses, we may be here a long time.
yup.
is he still doing the faux-Jamaican thing?
double play coming up?
Heh, juneau_fan called it.
We get to see Beltre get a double and Balentein get a walk, but Kenji can make sure we don’t score points. See, we as fans win all around in that inning.
I heart Cairo.
I forgot to insert the sarcasm symbol.
Does anybody know how Morrow did or is doing today?
2.0 ip, 22 pitches, 3 k’s, the rest are zeros
Help us, Miguel Cairo. You’re our only hope.
Wait, you’re our only hope? Man, we are screwed.
The poll on the ESPN MLB page asks who the most disappointing team is this season. “Mariners” strangely omitted.
not that this is not scitillating baseball, but they’ve been showing the gymnastics gala. It has featured medalists performing their competition routines to music (eh), various rhythmic gymnasts doing a lot of prancing around en-masse (really eh), and most entertainingly, athletes who were not part of the Olympics.
They showed the Chinese National Tumbling team (no human can really do a triple flip in the middle of a handspring), a martial arts team, and the Chinese Aerobics team (finishing with a small girl in a one-armed handstand, balanced on the raised legs of two flexible young ladies)
Help us, Miguel Cairo. You’re our only hope.
I find your lack of faith… to be quite accurate.
Lots of people going to be left out on the base paths tonight. Better grab some beer.
ah, I well remember that noted superhero Speedwalker
Pat O’Day would actually be a good Halloween costume– you’d just have to don a Hawaiian shirt and wander around the party saying “III’m Paat O’Daaaaaaay”
and it has the 3 musts of Halloween costuming– you can eat/drink in it, you can easily walk around, and you can use the bathroom while wearing it.
The third inning has not been kind to Morrow.
The M’s just keep finding new ways to create outs.
*Drinks*
My tv must be fuzzy, does it actually say 5th inning and 0 runs given up. I can’t remember when I last saw that.
I’m open to pretty much everything but that sport is overwhelmingly gay
That’s hilarious (and, for the record, I live on Capitol Hill). Hey, just add a few rainbow flags and some chaps and you’ve got yourself a Pride parade.
But hey, that reminds me: there’s one World Series that is guaranteed to be played in Seattle this year (next week, in fact). If you’re not sure if you should go, just try the free association test.
I believe I must mention again that I love Adrian Beltre.
We don’t play the A’s every day.
balla
So what scenario will we see Batista in today…
a.) Tie game with runners on and no one out
b.) Close game, brought in at the begging of the inning
c.) Blow out situation (the only situation he should ever be pitching in)
Isn’t it sad that RRS has twice as many strikeouts in 5 innings as the starters in six games? I’d say RRS looks great but then I remembered it’s the A’s. Crap.
Did Sims just say that the Seahawks drafted Lauren Jackson?
Laurence Jackson, Defensive End
Did Sims just say that the Seahawks drafted Lauren Jackson?
I would totally pay money to see Lauren Jackson suit up for the Seahawks.
Hey something exciting.
ok, that was weird. it sure didn’t look like Thomas said anything to the ump.
man! why didn’t raul catch that!
Maybe she can play for the M’s to.
I always wanted to match up Jackson & Snelling — just because I wanted to see the Aussie Mutt & Jeff.
too bad Cairo can’t hit worth a darn.
Wow, boo birds out for Cairo.
Cairo must do 100 bunts in practice tommorow.
after all the failures this season, why is no one taking bunting practice?
So does Frank Thomas have an official at bat?
Or, why are they not putting that bunting practice to good use.
I suppose if you were pressing when at bat, bunting would be one of the hardest things to pull off successfully …
49- why do we have any players on our team that you would have bunt in that situation? the only ML bunting happening should be done by pitchers. maybe in game 7 of the WS with cairo/johjima up and none out and runners on first and second…nevermind, never give up outs! why is cairo on this team, to provide Veteran Toughness(tm)?
you have to give props to cairo for his defense, but we would need a dh just for him
Shift keys are located on the left and right-hand side of your keyboard.
man, we have to give the aussie some run support, he’s been great today
chill out DMZ, don’t have to freak out about it
When you have a man on second and less than two outs, I always liked the “steal third while the batter bunts down the 3rd base line” call. If you do it right, you get the 3rd baseman moving the wrong way on the bunt and unless the catcher is really quick everybody’s safe. If you do it right.
RRS 7 ip 1 er 4 h 6 k 114 pitches 74 strikes era now 3.84. That is giving your team a chance to win. Thanks for your effort RRS.
At least he didn’t call you dmz.
2RS looked very good out there. Hopefully we can at least get a run so he doesn’t get the loss, but if not….Strasburg…LOL @ us that it took this long to give Morrow a shot in the rotation.
The Seattle Aussie community isn’t all that big. I wonder if The Hyphen and Ms Jackson know each other. They’d make a good pair. She’s got a couple of inches and years on him, he’s got about 30 pounds on her. And either one of them could probably drink the entire Seahawks team under the table.
RRS was pretty awesome tonight, the HR notwithstanding. If he ends up getting the loss in this game, well, that’s Reason #332,268 why wins and losses are a stupid way to evaluate pitchers.
No, it means that he’s incapable of pitching to the situation, a critical skill for media love
Yeah, if he were a gamer, RRS would have found a way for the A’s to score a negative run, and the M’s win 0 to -1.
64. Note post #38. That being said, one must be pleased with his performance.
When the game’s tied 0-0 RRS can’t be giving up HRs. Maybe he needs to go back to AAA and learn to better handle those Pressure Situations(tm).
Reed at first base ?
Where’s Richie when you need him?
Richie? Available.
It’s up to Lopez, Wlad and Joh now. Who wants some Rally Fries?
Who agrees with the decision to play Reed at first base for an inning so you have LaHair available to pinch hit for Balentien vs the tough righty ?
Go Tuggles!
73, you have to ask before he throws that ball away.
I do want to tell Dave and Rick (on radio) that Reed played 1B in college for awhile.
Tug!!
Hey Tug!
Little Toot!
Pitched around Clement with Yuni next, I’d say.
But then Ichiro is next, so maybe not.
EDIT: Like I said, a DP was to be expected from YB.
How many double plays is that for Betancourt now anyway? Has he at least turned more than he’s hit into?
Nicely done Yuni. *applause*
Well poop.
ok, good outing for RSS, a little excitement in the 9th, but still a critical loss when the Nats have won.
Maybe Tug should play SS, Yuni is retarded
I couldn’t have been the only one who was begging Clement to swing at something — anything — so Yuni didn’t come up in that situation, could I?
Seriously, I doubt anyone didn’t see that finish coming.
I guess it sums up this year, but I was hoping that Clement would not walk because that put the DP in order for Yuni…
In my head as he GIDP’ed again, I heard Niehaus shout “GET OUT THE BUNS AND THE KETCHUP GRANDMA, IT’S A STRAASSSBURRRGERRRRR!!!”
I find the new set of Boys & Girls Clubs ads where a ballplayer is lurking around the little league diamond in their MLB uniform, waiting to give moral support to an inept young ballplayer just a little freaky.
Trade Betancourt! (but I repeat myself)
Speaking of ads, I was watching with the sound off and there’s that b&w one for… some bank? Guy sitting on steps with flowers, obviously waiting on his women; next scene she’s out on a surfboard, catching waves with her BFF. I guess “bro’s before ho’s” works for the goose as well as the gander.
Ballplayers “lurking” around the LL diamond in thier MLB uniform isn’t freaky, it’s sick.
The one thing I wanted Yuni to do is what he never does: strike out.
Remember when Yuni wasn’t the baseball equivalent of leprosy? Wasn’t that the best?
