Game 135, Mariners at Indians

DMZ · August 30, 2008 at 11:55 am · Filed Under Game Threads

Take the Bus to Cleveland! 12:55 our time! Not on television!

Anthony Reyes takes the mound for Cleveland.

From MLB.com:

Jarrod Washburn has consistently given the Mariners a chance to win in most of his starts this season, but the run support is generally lacking when he’s on the mound.

Or… “They’ve done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time. ”

I could flog that write-up for a while, but I’ll let it go. It’s too easy.

Well DMZ, he is lacking run support when he’s on the mound. It’s true. Carlos Silva has also been lacking run support. All pitchers need run support, some just need more than others. Washburn has been let down by his offense because they have not provided him with 7 runs a game.

Equally, all pitchers, no matter how bad their start is, “give” their teams a chance to win. It might be an extremely small chance, but there it is.

    The stats do not lie.

Seattle has never Forfeited a game which Jarrod Washburn has started. That leadership is worth 10 million alone.

Your right, the stats dont lie. In saying that, I think we should DH Felix. Hey if nothing else it would shake things up and give espn/sportscenter something to talk about. And Skip Bayless can give us more of his quality sportcasting/mouth diarrhea that he is so good at.

Jarrod’s made from bits of real panther, so you know he’s good.

“Washburn has been a rock for Mariners”

    tied to their ankles…

  7. Slurve on August 30th, 2008 1:24 pm

I love plays at home plate to bad I couldn’t see it but hearing Dave yell OUT! is a good alternative.

  8. Slurve on August 30th, 2008 1:28 pm

And Hulett hits his first home run.

Funklet! Hah! Props to dnc for that coinage.

The Bus, striking out the side with his new mechanics!!!

2: Although in the case of Batista or Silva this year, DMZ, that chance is probably microscopic.

Hey, I’ve gotta say that I’ve been advocating for a while that the best way to win with Washburn on the mound is to score a lot more runs.

I’ve written 2600 words in scheduled content as part of the TY Content while listening to this game.

    That’s all.

This may be a record-low for comments in a game thread that was posted on time. Surprise no TV announcement = no interest, it looks like.

Miggy strikes out the side? Wow.

Listening to the Cleveland radio broadcast (which I like), they totally subscribe to the notion that Betancourt and Lopez are defensive wizards, amazing range, etc.

This is the sort of delusional thinking that a wise GM exploits.

Any thoughts on when (or if) JJ will put(z) fear in the hearts of opposing batters?

  20. Dave in Palo Alto on August 30th, 2008 3:34 pm

Maybe I should’ve voted JJ for greatest inducer of pain.

    ‘Cause this blows.

Not to mention all the competition. Sunny day for the first Saturday in a couple of weeks, last weekend of the summer, Bumbershoot, a pretty interesting Cubs-Phils game on Fox, and the opening Saturday of college football. Puts a meaningless late-season game between two league laggards pretty far down the priority list. It’s not September yet so there isn’t even the dubious attraction of listening to see if a new callup gets into the game.

boy, got home just in time for the 10th inning weirdness, and voila, no tv to see what Wedge was complaining about.

driving home, you could just see that HR by Choo coming.

Man… Are there any ideas as to why JJ has totally gone in the tank? Unless he’s still hurt or something.. and, if he is, he should shut it down the rest of the year. He is TOTALLY hittable and I have ZERO faith in him as a “closer”.

  25. msb on August 30th, 2008 4:01 pm

Sean Green is in? not very reassuring, that.

well, FWIW, yesterday he looked like the JJ of last year …

M’s Win…. Congrats to all. Looks like the Michigan Wolverines are going to give us a run for crappiest “think they might do something” sports team of the year.

  28. scott19 on August 30th, 2008 9:10 pm

27: Of course, the lackluster performance of the Wolverines today was, no doubt, a contributing factor to JJ’s blown save as well (i.e. he must’ve been watching on a laptop down in the bullpen and ended up bummed out over the result).

  29. vj on August 31st, 2008 3:54 am

Washburn with a good start and still a ND.
Putz channeling Julio Mateo with a vulture win.
Must have been a good game, after all.

No, all Wolverines are in lockstep forever. If the current team loses, every former Wolverine fails at whatever important thing he’s attempting that same day. All over the country today there were UofM alums missing golf shots, saying “oops” in operating rooms, and ending their day hearing “It’s OK honey, it happens to everyone.”
