This has to have a racing chance to be one of the worst games of the season.

Come on. Whats not to love about a an Ms vs. Royals matchup? To me this is what September baseball is all about! Its not like they keep playing games after the season finishes.

What would you even called baseball that is played after the season is finished, “extra-season”? “post-season”? Don’t make me laugh.

Just sit back and enjoy pure baseball in September.

    hmm….Mariners/Royals or Philly/Dallas.

The M’s get the “ODC” treatment tonight

Dave/DMZ – any comment on the “Tazawa Controversy” and if/should the Mariners be involved?

  8. MedicineHat on September 15th, 2008 5:10 pm

wow…that place is packed. There must be at least 500 people there.

  9. msb on September 15th, 2008 5:20 pm

I see Carlos hasn’t lost that baby weight yet.

    hmm. Fox graphic:

    “Matt Tuiasosopo, Bellevue, Washington”

    really?

The whole posting process is nearly broken today anyway, and with teams paying so much to get Japanese players it’s a little surprising the system hasn’t broken already. And as a group, the owners aren’t known for their respect for agreements when there’s money to be had — I expect Selig’s trying desperately to hold the pack of wolves back.

I don’t know, though, it feels weird to cheer for the M’s to participate in an act that could result in the wholesale looting of Japanese baseball prospects over the next few years.

So, Jeff Clement is awful defensively, eh?

Kim Ng, you’re our only hope!

  12. msb on September 15th, 2008 5:22 pm

so, that’s two between the wickets for Joh in the last few games … wonder if he just can’t get that low for some reason

  13. MedicineHat on September 15th, 2008 5:24 pm

Silva’s best “out” pitch? Runner missing third base/appeal pitch.

    Track THAT one Dave!

  14. msb on September 15th, 2008 5:28 pm

only adults 21 and older get the knit caps on the 27th? why, because it has a casino sponsor?

  15. msb on September 15th, 2008 5:55 pm

could they NOT get no-hit by KC?

  16. Paul B on September 15th, 2008 6:02 pm

Good call by Tui to get the runner thrown out on an appeal in the first inning.

    You what?!
    “(Only During Commercials)”
Oh. I thought for a minute you were threatening to take them out to the entry and six-pack ’em. Which would be a bit harsh.

  18. DMZ on September 15th, 2008 6:28 pm

    Wow, that’s frightening.

  19. JerBear on September 15th, 2008 6:41 pm

Whats with all the high socks lately? Silva today, Felix and Lopez yesterday – those guys usually always wear them low…

(Yes, that’s a stupid thing to comment on, but really…what else am I supposed to say about this game?)

  20. Colm on September 15th, 2008 6:47 pm

Alternative motivation. Sure, it’s brutally medieval, but maybe we need to light a fire underneath this team?

    Literally.

  21. msb on September 15th, 2008 6:48 pm

could they NOT get shut-out by KC?

  22. msb on September 15th, 2008 6:50 pm

Alternative motivation. Sure, it’s brutally medieval, but maybe we need to light a fire underneath this team?

in the old days, we had a training theory regarding the Russian skaters’ jump elevation and a flame-thrower …

so, according to Sims, it is just the Mariner offense that is making Davies look good.

  23. msb on September 15th, 2008 7:01 pm

    Ichiro!

he looks a little ticked out there 🙂

  24. JerBear on September 15th, 2008 7:02 pm

Holy crap! That was a helluva throw by ichiro!

So a long time ago when I was a catcher in fast-pitch youth baseball, I had a play like that where I caught a beautiful throw in from right, set to put the tag on this huge dude who was out by five feet, and I still remember the little grin on his face as he ran those five feet to knock into me. I saw stars for the first time but I held onto the ball. And the ump yelled “You’re out! And you’re out!” and ejected the guy.

    Ahhhhh memories.

  26. DMZ on September 15th, 2008 7:16 pm

Clearly, my awesome prose and revelation that I played baseball has stunned everyone into silence and killed the thread.

  27. JerBear on September 15th, 2008 7:20 pm

That’s ridiculous, Derek. Bloggers don’t play baseball.

Actually, my attention to the game/thread is limited because I’m paying bills right now. I’m not sure which is more painful, watching the Mariners or my checking account balance.

  28. msb on September 15th, 2008 7:22 pm

well, I was getting the zucchini bread into the oven, and dividing the pea soup into containers.

    really, it was fascinating.

we should give Joh credit for hanging onto the ball while being knocked several feet off the plate by the runner…

  29. msb on September 15th, 2008 7:24 pm

and all 12 Royals fans rise to their feet

  30. JerBear on September 15th, 2008 7:27 pm

    Well, that was embarrassing.

  31. joser on September 15th, 2008 7:28 pm

I went into my local bar and they had skateboarding on the secondary TV (MNF was on the main screen). I gestured at the little screen and said “Hey, there’s a baseball game on” The bartender switched it over to FSN, saw that it was M’s-Royals, and said “I thought you said there was a baseball game on?”

    We watched skateboarding.

Didn’t really notice Joakim Soria until recently. Too bad he has such little exposure.

  33. lokiforever on September 15th, 2008 7:58 pm

What’s happened to Sean Green? He can’t get through an inning anymore.

“Good pitching generally beats good hitting and he just beat us,” Mariners manager Jim Riggleman said.

The immortal Kyle Davies, with a lifetime ERA of 5.87, WHIP of 1.70, and BA against of .295, is tonight’s example of “good pitching”.

I guess it wouldn’t be much of an interview if Riggleman said something like “Crummy pitching generally beats really crummy hitting.”

But it would be fun to hear, just once.

But Derek, how did you fit all of those people in your mom’s basement!

    *runs away*

Nice, Jeff. Clearly he’s relating a memory of a video game he once played. 🙂
