    Drop the qual to 145 innings and Jeff Weaver comes in fourth.

    He at least deserves dishonorable mention.

    1999 Jeff Fassero pitched most of his innings for the Mariners (just under 140 for us and a few more for Texas).

    Ahhh yes, Jeff Fassero circa 1999…the year the wheels not only came off the bus for him but the one that the wheels came off and he flew into a sink whole that opened up underneath him. He went from several strong years with the M’s at under 4 ERA and over 12 wins…to complete SUCKSTASY overnight.

    Outside of a few good years in the late 90’s and early 2000’s…is there a worse run team in MLB? Can’t count KC…they don’t have enough money to be as stupid as the M’s.

    What’s with the ERA use Conor? Dave’s been telling us that it’s no good.

    In this age of wonderful information, there’s just no reason to use ERA and WHIP for serious analysis of a pitcher’s ability. We have better tools at our disposal. We’re doing ourselves an injustice if we continue to lean on inferior information.

    If there’s a way to easily query for your ERA-like metric of choice from 1961 to the present, let me know, because I’d love to know how to pull that off.

    Shit-tastic defense has plenty to do with that there orbital ERA as well. Don’t get me wrong; Silva sucks. But I think you have to look at it from more than just that angle.

    And the sad part of it is, instead of throwing away copious amounts of money on Fas-sorry’s final season, they could’ve had a year’s worth of Hideo Nomo as the #4/5 starter for a virtual song (a 12-8 record for the Brewers at the astronomical cost of a whole $250k!).

    If one was really motivated, you could include pitchers with fewer than 150 IP by adding the requisite number of IP with 0 ER. At least, if you were into giving them the maximum benefit of the doubt and had some database skillz.

    The title sound a bit gloom and doom, but sadly the situation is even worse. In 1198 days I fear that there will be 2 or 3 other bad contract that we are counting down. What good GM candidate will want to work under Lincoln/Armstrong?

    Too bad the legendary Mike Parrott only pitched 94 innings in 1980…his 7.28 ERA (to go along with a handsome 1-16 record) certainly deserves a dishonorable mention.

    Texas? Baltimore? Sure Pittsburgh is small market, but they are in the NL Central with I think eleventy other mediocre teams.

    I think Pittsburgh is at 16 consecutive losing seasons. Baltimore is at eleven. Cincinnati is at 8 I believe. There’s a lot of bad baseball out there so imagine the possibilities, Felix!

    It is just a little bit hypocritical to berate somone for using ERA analysis in this particular post, seeing as it is based entirely on ERA….

    That is surprising that there aren’t more Kingdome starters on the list. I imagine dropping the innings parameter to 120 would add some.
