Picks to click ” I am going with the free swinger Benacourt. Ever once in awhile he connects.” Do we have any other kind?

  2. TomTuttle on September 23rd, 2008 6:41 pm

    Woo-hoo!

    Tonight we reach triple digits!!!

  3. SequimRealEstate on September 23rd, 2008 6:46 pm

Betancourt. Not enough time on my iPhone to correct.

  4. msb on September 23rd, 2008 6:48 pm

tonights KOMO poll question– do you want the Mariners to end up with the worst record in baseball, yes or no?

well, hell, they are already so darned close….

  5. bakomariner on September 23rd, 2008 7:23 pm

Only thing worse than watching our putrid offense is having to listen to Hudler announce…and then have to see him in a commercial during each break…I hate living in So-Cal sometimes…

  6. bakomariner on September 23rd, 2008 7:29 pm

    well, game over…

  7. bakomariner on September 23rd, 2008 7:29 pm

    and RF was looking good…

Gotta love Mariners fans, more upset about the Hat Trick screwing up than the two-run homer.

  9. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 7:59 pm

Nice swing by Ichiro on that double.

  10. Colm on September 23rd, 2008 8:01 pm

over in Baltimore, in a game that kinda matters, the Rays just scored 6 in the eighth to take a 7-5 lead over the Orioles.

Glad to see Ichiro getting a double.

  11. JerBear on September 23rd, 2008 8:05 pm

Nice! I was keeping an eye on that game too. This Rays team definitely reminds me of the 95 Ms… Just seems like they find ways to win every game.

  12. dirk on September 23rd, 2008 8:14 pm

    Florida 4
    Washington 9

    Final

  13. Colm on September 23rd, 2008 8:20 pm

okay, the M’s have a chance to put some distance between themselves and the Nationals for crappest team in baseball.

Conversely they could try to win a game for the first time in a fortnight.

  14. MattThompson on September 23rd, 2008 8:30 pm

And the Rays game goes final; Tampa wins. Wow, magic number of 2 for the AL East title.

  15. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 9:00 pm

Torii Hunter misses a ball. The seventh sign?

  16. JerBear on September 23rd, 2008 9:03 pm

Well, according to Sims, Torii’s perfect fielding percentage means that if he can’t catch it, it can’t be caught.

The ball did take a really weird mid-air turn there tho…

  17. JerBear on September 23rd, 2008 9:05 pm

Come on, guys – #100 is just within your reach! Don’t lose focus now!!!

  18. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 9:25 pm

    Don’t lose focus now!!!

Actually, isn’t focus exactly what they need to lose?

  19. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 9:28 pm

That was some good announcing. “They’re giving Reed the right-center gap.” “He goes gap!”

  20. G-Man on September 23rd, 2008 9:29 pm

Shoot, I am cheering on every score, then stopping myself and saying “What am I doing?!”

  21. JerBear on September 23rd, 2008 9:39 pm

This definitely does NOT look like the Mariners team that we’ve all come to know and loathe… What’s going on?

  22. DMZ on September 23rd, 2008 9:39 pm

Seeing that wide shot of the stands made me wonder what the actual attendance is tonight. 20k? I didn’t see anyone on the upper deck.

  23. Colm on September 23rd, 2008 9:40 pm

Aw allow yourself. Enjoy they win. Losing sucks. You should never actually cheer for your team to lose – whatever draft pick rationale you’ve promised yourself.

  24. msb on September 23rd, 2008 9:41 pm

so, I see the Nats score first, and then I change over and dammit, 9-6?

  25. JerBear on September 23rd, 2008 9:46 pm

Yeah, I’m not really rooting for draft picks anymore… But at this point there’s just kind of a morbid fascination. How bad are they? How bad could they be? This is, after all, history in the making – what other records do we have to shoot for? It’s like WFB’s XBH-less streak. I’m not sure I want it to end.

  26. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 9:48 pm

Ending the season on a record losing streak is just plain not fun. Let them win one.

As to the crowd, a friend of mine was the catcher for the first pitch tonight, and wanted a small crowd in case she muffed it. So the fewer the witnesses the better.

  27. msb on September 23rd, 2008 9:56 pm

But at this point there’s just kind of a morbid fascination.

    that’s just it.

  28. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 9:58 pm

Vlad strikes out. We’ve obviously crossed into the alternative universe.

  29. TomTuttle on September 23rd, 2008 9:58 pm

Darn it, the Mariners are gonna win.

Wait, did I just say that? Wow.

  30. Breadbaker on September 23rd, 2008 10:02 pm

    M’s win! M’s win!

Actually, they played pretty well, and came back from deficits three times.

  31. G-Man on September 23rd, 2008 10:12 pm

Vlad strikes out. We’ve obviously crossed into the alternative universe.

LOOKING, no less. The Angels are getting kickbacks from the Nationals.

  32. joser on September 23rd, 2008 11:13 pm

In this alternate universe Johjima goes 3 for 4 with a run and 3 RBI. Triple crown threat. Reed bats .500 and gets clutch hits. Betancourt goes 3 for 5 (but still doesn’t walk — this is an alternate universe, but not a bizarro one). And the M’s score 9 runs on the team with the best record in baseball. Meanwhile Ichiro is the guy who struggles at the plate, going just 1 for 5.

  33. RadioGuy2k on September 23rd, 2008 11:50 pm

I was there, in the upper deck, and had a fantastically relaxing time stretching my legs out over the row in front of me, and occupying basically an entire section with a friend.

But as relaxing as that was, I’d rather see a packed house for a playoff team.

    Ugh. Oh well.

  34. mln on September 24th, 2008 12:36 am

The Mariners had a chance to achieve history tonight with their 100 loss of the season, but instead, they choked this opportunity away and won the game.

    Damn you, Mariners. Damn you.

  35. Scooter4 on September 24th, 2008 1:34 am

Seeing that wide shot of the stands made me wonder what the actual attendance is tonight. 20k? I didn’t see anyone on the upper deck.

I was at the game and there’s no way there was 20k there. It was pretty sparse. Smallest crowd I’ve ever seen at a game I attended.
