But seriously folks, was he the guy who was run out of L.A. or am I thinking of somebody else? If he's as smart as he appears to be, why would he want to join one of the most backward-looking organizations in professional sports? (Sorry, but today I read NOT ONLY Thiel's piece about the lack of leadership on the M's this year but also a Sporting News piece on how Troy Percival was bringing leadership to the Rays. That's frankly incredible. There aren't too many people at his level in ANY business who do that, let alone baseball (which has a tendency to be both secretive and cliche-ridden).
