    Didn’t I read somewhere (I thought it was here) that the M’s don’t need permission to talk to someone? (Though of course, they might need to pay a hefty sum to buy out someone’s existing contract.)

    No, they do — if you’re a front-office exec and under contract, your team needs to let you go interview. If your contract’s up, you’re cool.
