This scholarship isn’t based on the Theme or importance of the BLOG itself, but of the person nominated who writes for the blog. Under your basis, if a Blog is about World Hunger (a topic we can all agree is VERY important), but the Blogger just isn’t that great a writer, he should get your vote over pretty much ANYTHING.

This scholarship isn’t about any SITE, robrtx…it’s about the writing.

A quick response to the general freak out I accidentally caused: I read both blogs (I have a friend from college who plays for the Mariners). I am not saying anything negative about this site by saying that I think positively of what Mauro is trying to do on his. By observing that one site relates to events that change the lives of millions of people through the political process and the other site is about a great game, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with this site. The observation stands, but I love the Mariners. Maybe some people see politics as a game too, but I think the last 8 years should have dissuaded anyone from that opinion by now. I’m glad to hear that you guys are passionate about this site though. May the best site win.

I’ve posted the link around to as many Mariner message boards as I can find, including Myspace, Yahoo, MLB, ESPN and CNNSI. Unfortunately, we don’t have a one-stop million-hit-a-day site like Kos that will help. I will keep trying, as I truly believe David’s work and content far outshines what I’ve seen at Burnt Orange…which is not to demean what Mauro does, but let’s face it, targeting the content of USSM as almost being irrelevant because it’s not dealing with politics is pretty underhanded.

I can say this, if *I* were on the judges panel that chose the finalist, I would be pretty upset at the way the winner is chosen.

Yeah, as I mentioned before, the fact that Dave has been able to keep it so tight with his simple fan-base support is an overwhelming testament to the quality of this site and how much we appreciate you guys’ work (you too, Derek.)

BTW, I was simply encouraging people who were never even able to get to the voting interface to keep trying. But yes, I know there are plenty of dishonest efforts going on out there…some even encouraged by…certain blogs…*cough* *cough*

And I know I’m in the minority here with my political beliefs, but I personally don’t believe in the kind of “positive change” and “public service” that Mauro provides, so….that argument means nothing to me. I’m voting for Dave because I appreciate the merits of his blogging work, not because I agree with (or even care to know) his political ideology.

Mauro’s blog serves an actual public-service as well, as opposed to being an enthusiast site. There is nothing wrong with sport/hobby sites (I frequent them regularly), but Mauro’s blog is about positive change in the world as well.

Well, shoot, I’m glad to hear you don’t think there’s anything “wrong” with all the time and effort Dave and the other authors have put into this site over the years.

It’s a shame that USSM can’t provide a “public service”, though, since that is clearly why people are voting for Mauro. The constant references on DailyKOS about “helping one of US get through college” couldn’t have anything to do with it.
