Griffey causes economic boom of sorts

DMZ · February 20, 2009 at 3:03 pm · Filed Under Mariners

It seems that after Griffey signed, it took a couple of days for everyone to find the Griffey memorabilia they’d stashed in the basement, had kicking around the back of the closet, and get it listed on Craigslist.

The Griffey Economic Boom

That last one’s projected based on the day’s traffic so far.

    Don’t tell me that you’ve been monitoring this, just so you could put up a chart on the subject? You’ve got another source for this data, right?

    Oh, goodness. Well, hopefully there are enough buyers to keep the food on the table in some of the homes that need it!

    In the future, selling your belongings on Craigslist will constitute 90% of the US economy. People should hold up signs in the stadium advertising their sales there.

    Yes, and the other 10% will represent doing other people’s laundry. We’re in for a tough future.

    Have we established replacement player levels yet? I’d be interested to see what Griffey’s MORP (Merchandise Value Above Replacement Player)calculates to.

    That first day that he signed I looked for a retro Griffey jersey and most of the sites I found were sold out on them. I didn’t even think of looking at CL. I know it wasn’t the best baseball move, but I am super excited to have him back. I grew up idolizing Griffey and will love a chance to idolize him as an adult.

    If I could only get my hands on a ken griffey junior candy bar(circa 1990), I would pay 3-4 dollars.

    I bought a #24 M’s jerseys on Ebay about 6 months ago for $12 with shipping. Dark blue with everything sewn on. Steal.

    Also I do have 2 of those candy bars. Not for sale though.

    I cleaned out my safe deposit box a couple months ago. Inside were two KGJ candy bars that had been in that climate controlled box since 1989. One yellow and one blue. They might still even taste good.

    That’s funny DMZ. I was searching craigslist too and someone is selling what they claim to be the old dugouts from the kingdome. The add says I could build my own field of dreams.

    I would have to believe that at one time I was one of the biggest collectors of Griffey stuff in Ontario, Canada. Haha. Not sure how many kids collected his stuff here in Ontario, but the stuff I have will never make it to Craigslist. I saw Griffey against the Jays for the first time in 1989, its only fitting I see him this summer in what could be his last game played in Canada.
    He will not only effect attendance in Seattle but to the ballparks he visits across the AL.

    I caved in and bought a Griffey Jr. candy bar for my sport bar.

    Heck I didn’t even know about Craigslist. I just have to keep it away from the wife or else I will broke…oh wait I already am. But I am emotionally happy does that count for anything? Oh I have a KGJr jersey in storage somewhere in the States (military member here). My son wants it now. Think I will charge him—yards mowed. LOL

    Just out of curiousity, were there any frozen steaks for sale from the cow he and Buhner put in Lou’s Office?

    Mmmmmmm.
    17 year old frozen steak.

    Keep your candybars, The Dreeze only recognizes one piece of Griffey merchandise:

    1991 Score All-Star

    AKA = The Big Head

    AKA = The Big Head

    As seen in the Simpsons episode so memorable to Ryan Rowland-Smith’s buddies in Australia?

    Speaking of which, there’s one clubhouse “reunion” that would be interesting to hear about.
