Game 16, Rays at Mariners

Mike Snow · April 23, 2009 at 3:46 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Why carrying 12 pitchers is stupid – your bench gets a little banged up, and voila, you’re running out Jamie Burke at first base. Apparently he’s the only one left with any experience there, all of 10 innings.

RF-L Ichiro
LF-L Chavez
2B-R Lopez
3B-R Beltre
DH-R Balentien
C-R Johnson
CF-R Ferguson
SS-R Betancourt
1B-R Burke

Meanwhile, even after burning through the bullpen with Jakubauskas pitching last night, come on, it’s Felix Day. Hernandez v. Shields, 3:40.

Oh lord. I’m closing my eyes now. Tell me when it’s over.

How can we tell you if your eyes are closed? 🙂

With who is on the mound and who is at shortstop, is there any reason to doubt me?

Just like I said, a nice little twenty-one pitch inning.

DMZ, how much of your “supplies” have you had to drink tonight?

THANK YOU GUTY! Ugly, ugly win, but I’ll take it!

  10. DMZ on April 23rd, 2009 6:10 pm

    um, a fair amount?

Wish I could have seen that 8th inning by Aardsma. Looks like it was pretty bad-ass from the Gameday feed!

I knew it. Krueger’s hair is an electrical conductor.

Oh, of course. Now I know why he looks familiar!

    um, a fair amount?

You didn’t share with me, so whatever you had must have been an unfair amount.

Does anyone know Brandon Morrow’s entrance music?

    Perhaps Aerosmith’s “Walk this Way”?

Though considering what he does to those of us watching, the “Stuck in the Middle With You” scene from “Reservoir Dogs” seems appropriate.

OMG this season so far, be it only 16 games deep, is SO MUCH FUN. I’ve missed this so much. All hail the King tonight, now lets go to socal and BURY those halos even deeper!

    Zvazda…

I believe in baseball an “unfair amount” is called a Foul Amount… (hee hee)

Derek has had a Foul Amount today…

You know, I was just listening to the post-game show and Pitman is basically asking the same questions about retroactively DL’ing guys and calling people up from Tacoma that we asked here. And it dawned on me — we know Pitman reads USSM. And while I’m sure he was wondering some of the same things, this game thread may very well have put the bug in his ear. So here I was at the start of the game thinking — these are good questions, I wish the media was asking them of the team — and now I realize that if they’re good questions, and we voice them here, there’s a good chance they will get asked. That’s pretty cool.

OMG this season so far, be it only 16 games deep, is SO MUCH FUN.

10% of the season gone, and so far they’ve only lost one series. They’re 5-4 at home, 5-2 on the road, 5-1 in the AL West, .625 overall.

And yeah, they’ve been fun to watch.

So nevermind the injuries, nevermind the high-wire bullpen, nevermind the narcoleptic bats, nevermind even the Axis of Suck that is Silva and Batista and Yuni…. if you’d offered even some of this last year, I’d have jumped to take it.

Now, time to take this show on the road and do in Anaheim what they did in Oakland.

This game was a lot of fun to watch. Aardsma in particular looked awesome.

And I now own the last piece of Doyle memorabilia that was left in the team store, an autographed ball for $10!

Jeff! wish I’d known you were there ….

Jeff! wish I’d known you were there ….

He gave us his seat number. Also, he mentioned a couple of days ago he had tickets for Felix day.

Sixteen games in, our starting pitchers have been our saviors. And this was a good day for the Superstar theory. We have two Superstars, Ichiro and Felix, and they just about won one on their own.

Ah, but I didn’t know that I’d have tickets for Felix Day, so it obviously went whooshing past me at the time …
