Branyan makes me happy. Seriously, has there any frustrating moments with him this season (yet)? No endless, ranting threads, not hair pulling, no muttering under the breath. Can we say that about anyone else on the team, Ichiro included? (’cause there’s always playa haters.)

  2. griffin on June 11th, 2009 6:41 pm

branyan is a fucking monster man.

we have been bringing it since the rain went away.

  3. nathanp2112 on June 11th, 2009 6:44 pm

Olson pitched well enough to win, and that’s good enough for me.

Branyan is a monster, what a great pickup. We need another 2-3 like him! The only critique that I can give is that on occassion his glove isn’t the best, but he still does a decent job at first.

  4. cgmonk on June 11th, 2009 6:46 pm

    Wow, Griffey right behind Beltre.

  5. nathanp2112 on June 11th, 2009 6:47 pm

    cmon, Yuni

  6. juneau_fan on June 11th, 2009 6:47 pm

Why, why, why is the baserunning a clown parade!??!

And there’s our grinning Betencourt, having a great time! Whoo-hoo!

Uh, nathan, P-I’s blog is still, that way >>>>

  7. ScottBrowne on June 11th, 2009 6:48 pm

Even when Yuni does something good he still manages to screw it up. Ugh.

  8. ballsoffire3 on June 11th, 2009 6:48 pm

Only Yuni can take something as beautiful as an RBI double and F it up!!

  9. nathanp2112 on June 11th, 2009 6:49 pm

fine juneau, if y’all only want someone who agrees with you 100% of the time, I’m out. Enjoy your little party and I’ll enjoy the game………

  10. griffin on June 11th, 2009 6:49 pm

damnit Yuni, were you not looking at all? why did you round 2nd so hard??? you dumbass.

  11. Simp on June 11th, 2009 6:52 pm

Could Griffey had made it to home plate had the third base coach not stopped him? I was away at the time and didn’t see it.

  12. ScottBrowne on June 11th, 2009 6:52 pm

    Probably not.

  13. griffin on June 11th, 2009 6:54 pm

i’m visiting my parents for the day/night, and my mom seems to think Griffey could have made it, i thought he coulda been picked off, though im not sure.

  14. ndrfx on June 11th, 2009 6:56 pm

Tough to tell, the throw never went home since he had stopped running, it would have been very close if he kept running even though he was right on Beltre.

  15. juneau_fan on June 11th, 2009 6:59 pm

It did look as though Griffey wasn’t running that hard, so he may have made it if Beltre wasn’t in his way. Beltre’s running has always looked so labored and painful to me, but now to see some old, banged up man nearly lapping him while at a jog *really* made him look bad.

heh. pitchers in the batting cage, getting ready for the NL.

So you’re saying we’ll get better production out of the DH spot now?

  18. cdowley on June 11th, 2009 8:19 pm

At least when it’s Felix Day we will…

I thought this site was a way to try to educate the casual fans? Immediately jumping on someone for making a foolish comment without trying to educate them is kind of counterproductive to what I thought this site was about. Not trying to single you specifically juneau_fan, because I’ve seen this before a time or two. I guess I’m just trying to say we could all try a little harder to be nicer to the ‘newbies.’

If someone told me we would be at 500 in the middle of June in the offseason I woulda laughed.
    But here we are…
Now if those stupid Rangers, A’s and Angels would all go on some massive losing streaks that would be great!
Any chance we can get Felix in the Colorado series? Love to see another Grand Slam…lol
    Go M’s!!!!

  21. NoStars on June 11th, 2009 9:20 pm

Quiroz in his 4 ABs only saw 7 pitches. I imagine they were all in his wheelhouse and he would have been stupid to not swing at such watermelons.

  22. BillyJive on June 11th, 2009 9:24 pm

Quiroz…hmmm..we picked him up a couple of seasons ago on waivers from TO right? And then he was with Baltimore…how did we end up with him again…and don’t we have enough catchers in the system?

  23. Breadbaker on June 11th, 2009 9:27 pm

Quiroz was just following the example of his idol, Yuniesky Betancourt.

  24. joser on June 11th, 2009 10:52 pm

and don’t we have enough catchers in the system?

Considering the starter is on the DL and the backup is too hurt to play, and the two that are playing weren’t on the opening day roster, the answer would apparently be “no.”

  25. joser on June 11th, 2009 10:56 pm

Well, one thing about tomorrow night: Washburn will get to help his own cause by standing in at the plate. Can’t bitch about run support if he’s the guy not providing at least 1/9th of it.

  26. Breadbaker on June 11th, 2009 11:04 pm

Nothing would make me happier than if Jarrod supplied all the offense in an M’s victory. For one thing, it would allow Sims to mention it whenever the M’s didn’t score for him in a DH game.

  27. scott19 on June 11th, 2009 11:11 pm

And, unfortunately, the M’s don’t quite have the technology available just yet to construct androids to catch for them. (*New twist…since I was wearing out my “Spinal Tap” analogy pretty quick. ;))

  28. Breadbaker on June 12th, 2009 12:25 am

Let’s say they’re talking to the Orioles about Adam Jones. I’ll ask you this: If you put Adam Jones back in the draft right now, who would go No. 1 — him or Strasburg? I’d say Adam Jones. So no way you’re giving up an Adam Jones for this kid. But obviously, I know what Adam Jones is now. And I think I know what he’s going to be. I don’t know what Stephen Strasburg is going to be.”

Courtesy of Rumblings and Grumblings. Think about it. A guy we traded along with an All-Star and two guys who look to be rotation starters would, in this unnamed guy’s opinion, be worth more today than Stephen Strasburg. I may vomit.

  29. BillyJive on June 12th, 2009 12:42 am

We also have Moore and Clement (still a catcher at this point technically) my question was simply why did they bother to bring Quiroz back into the M’s system with all the catchers we have….
Quiroz has never seemed to be much more than a back up to the guy that backs up the back up catcher….

  30. scott19 on June 12th, 2009 1:34 am

Quips aside, that catching situation is a bit of a head-scratcher at the moment…

Paging Adam Moore…please report to Safeco (the visitors’ clubhouse at) Coors Field.

  31. Mike Snow on June 12th, 2009 7:35 am

Quiroz has never seemed to be much more than a back up to the guy that backs up the back up catcher

That’s what he is alright, and as we’ve seen, you need that guy.

  32. joser on June 12th, 2009 9:19 am

There’s nothing strange about the catching situation. They’ve said they want to continue developing Moore. If they brought him up now they’d be burning an option year on him and he’d spend most of it sitting on the bench not batting and not calling games (GQ has been in, what, three games so far?) This is a nice contrast to the Bavasi era, when guys were rushed up without proper development (hello, Mr Morrow).

And of course Clement’s knee isn’t letting him catch in Tacoma so he’s certainly not able to catch in the majors.

So, as Mike Snow says, the fact that GQ is here is proof that such a guy is necessary. It just so happens Rob Johnson was already that guy, and he got hurt while he was filling in for Johjima.

  33. joser on June 12th, 2009 9:21 am

BTW, according to one press account I read, that HR by Branyan tied for the 6th longest ever hit at Camden Yards.

  34. SeasonTix on June 12th, 2009 11:05 am

    Breadbaker,

I saw that comment about Adam Jones too and had the same reaction.

I will never forgive Bill Bavasi for that trade. I was really looking forward to watching Jones play for the M’s.

    BUT …

I think it was Dave C. who pointed out that the Adam Jones trade effectively brought us Jack Z & Company in the FO, Wak as the manager and Guti in CF.

So when you look at it from that perspective, it’s a lot easier to take.

  35. joser on June 12th, 2009 1:12 pm

Nevertheless, Dave Cameron said at the time the trade was going down that he wouldn’t swap Bedard for Jones straight up. He was widely ridiculed by many commenters here and elsewhere at the time, but given that Bedard departs this year (or costs a lot of money to retain) whereas Baltimore gets to enjoy AJ for another 3+ years at little more than the league minimum, I’d say he’s being proven correct.

And Bedard is a far more proven quantity than Strasburg (to get back to the point of that original quote).

  36. bilbo27 on June 12th, 2009 5:48 pm

WOW (today in the pre-game interview) Wak revealed Bedard will miss his next start with shoulder inflammation. Further:

“The second part of the bombshell is that Brandon Morrow will make the start in Bedard’s place. He will be limited to 60 pitches. Wakamatsu messed with Morrow by calling him into his office and saying, “:You ready to start?”

Morrow, thinking he was headed to Tacoma, replied, “Yeah.”

    Wakamatsu said, “Here?”
