Game 98, Indians at Mariners
1:10. Cliff Lee v Vargas. Sure would be nice if Lee was pulled before the game so he could be traded somewhere, and the M’s faced someone hastily shoved out of the bullpen.
Here’s the kicker: Baker reports Bedard’s on the DL with shoulder inflammation (which seems to be the M’s injury of choice this year), allowing Vargas to join the active 25-man roster… and in turn means Bedard’s not going anywhere, certainly not ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline, because you can’t trade guys on the DL.

True enough.
And tomorrow is Felix day.
Since this heat wave is supposed to continue all week, he might wind up selling those cheesy mist-spray hats by tomorrow.
While watching footage of a baby in the blazing sun, Sims says, “Get a hat on that youngster.”
His hat obsessing continues.
Good O, Saunders.
I sure hope we have a different SS in a few days. Crossing my fingers!
I was so pleased he said that– one of my pet peeves, exposing tiny baby brains to the hot sun.
ITA, msb, as I sit here with my blazing red face from a stupidity generated burn. But I’m an adult, able to make my own stupid choices; a baby is defenseless.
But it felt all Homer Simpson: Mmmmm…hhatss……
Oh well, even Sims had to amuse himself this afternoon. The game sure wasn’t going to do it.
I’d like to see a baby wear a snappy fedora.
You want to see a baby in a snappy fedora? Here.
Odd. I can see it.
Well, if this teams keeps tanking, does that hurt their position as “reluctant†sellers?
It depends on whom they’re selling. For Washburn, some would say that they have a better chance of resigning him if they don’t trade him (though I say it doesn’t matter, especially when Scott Boras is the guy’s agent).
As for any other trade bait, as someone said earlier, who is there to sell?
That was horribly depressing, and great seats behind home plate didn’t help. They may have made it worse.
Escobar to the M’s???? hmmm.
So far, that’s just a rumor, and I’ve only heard it from Baker.
Hardy or Escobar for Washburn getting legs
I’d be really surprised (but ecstatic) if we could pry Escobar away from the Brewers; Hardy would be just fine.
Jeff, how much would you be willing to give up to get Escobar? For our purposes, the younger Escobar seems to be a better fit, but I know how highly regarded he is in the Brewer organization.
Man I would love to get Escobar over Hardy, but I think we would get Hardy because of what Axtell said, “He is highly regarded.” Any other rumors you guys hearing?
Well, I’m just a lowly mod, not an analyst. But my thought is that it’d take a lot to get Escobar. He’s one of the best young prospects in baseball at a premium position.
It’s highly unlikely that Washburn + Morrow would get it done; you’d have to add one or maybe two more serious prospects. It’s not impossible that it’d take Triunfel to get a deal done, in fact.
A trade for JJ Hardy is probably a lot more likely.
Ya what about Washburn Morrow and Wladimir
I don’t know if there is any truth to this (so take it for what it is worth)…
But on the post game show for the Mariners game they were talking about Morrow and Clement to Cleveland, Cliff Lee to Tampa, and Scott Kazmir and the Rays top SS prospect to us.
That being said I have also heard the more tams you get involved in a trade the less likely it is to happen. Plus I am not sure about Kazmir. I know he was highly regarded at one point, an “Ace”, but seems to have fallen off and not being able to go long in games. It seems with each year he become more and more like Erik Bedard 2.0
