Olson v. Holland, 5:05
I guess it’s a good thing we sent Josh Wilson down, because otherwise how would we know who was starting at shortstop?

2B-R Lopez
DH-R Sweeney

Jack Z isn’t trading Washburn.
Gotta say, though, Wilson’s settled right into the Mariner line-up.
My God, is this like…open mike night at USSM? What does being a non roster invitee in Spring Training have to do with Holland’s ability, he wasnt on the 40 man roster, so he’d obviously be a non roster invite. This is getting me cranky, so I’ll apologize in the middle, but come on folks, look a guy up before you speak a bunch of jibberish
Im not debating that our offense is lethargic. I’m not sure why everyone here thinks Derek Holland is Bob Wells.
Olson sucked tonight but it wouldnt have mattered how good he pitched because this offense is a joke. He could have pitched 9 innings and given up one run and we still would have lost.
For one thing, the manager actually noticed him, and put him in a game.
Just read a post just now from very early in the thread, referring to defense by osmosis. Are there any reliable statistics linking (ignoring external factor dependent statistics) 2B and SS (or vice-versa) with an eye towards their individual statistics (erego ignoring double play metrics).
Don’t they have the scouting report on Lopez? He’s going to ground out on the first pitch. The kid could have thrown that.
Saunders looks like Richie Sexson w/o the power. It’s tough for kids with such a large strike zone. Unless you’re Frank Howard.
I would love to see some analysis that shows the optimum height/wingspan for a ballplayer based on stats. (I.e. average all relevant hitting stats and regress them against height.
This is kind of evil, in a moral victory sort of way.
Maybe Mariners hitters convinced themselves that it is an instant loss when Olson is on the hill.
Can we please get a real right handed bat besides Shelton and Sweeney. I really hope Jack starts dealing and bringing in some real lumber.
Why does everyone convince themsves they love Wak so much when really we complain about his moves more than we rejoice them. Yes, we are a better team this year but it isn’t that difficult to realize that Jack Z was responsible for a grand majority of the improvement. Wak starts Olson incessantly knowing it doesn’t give his team a chance to win, puts up a lineup which flashes our most powerful hitter who strikes out a ton in the 2 hole, and juggles two washed up has-beens (all due respect to Junior) who frankly just can’t hit or run anymore in the cleanup spot. It’s not like he does a good job of managing the bullpen either. I mean, yes we are a better team, but the guy makes significant mistakes every night. Maybe these mistakes aren’t the cause for losses, but they certainly aren’t helping either.
Derek, just a note that the heading is actually “Reference Material” and not “Recommended Reading.” Some wiseacre must have changed it on you…
Does anyone think maybe we are going to make a move with Branyan, because we keep saying we are putting him in the lineup a next day but we keep putting Shelton there cause he claims to have a sore back. His average drops every game and maybe we are trying to give him off time so it won’t drop to low so he looks better on paper. Just a thought, and I didn’t watch or hear the game, so I might have missed any explanations why he was out today as well.
So who else should we have started? Felix? Washburn? Rowland-Smith? Vargas? Not their turn. Bedard? DL. Silva? Really? Jakubauskas? He ended up pitching more than Olson and gave up runs too.
Maybe we can get a case of bats in a trade for Olsen or possibly Silva (unless Carlos is hungry and eats them first!!!)
I don’t want to see Garrett Olson ever ever ever ever ever EVER again.
