USSM Goes To Safeco Reminder
For those of you who were able to buy tickets to our USSM event at Safeco this Saturday before they sold out, we’re looking forward to seeing you guys in six days. Should be a fun time. The pre-game event will start at 5:15 pm, but I’d suggest being outside the home plate entrance of Safeco Field closer to 5:00 pm. There will be a sign located just north of the home plate entrance showing where you will enter to get access to the Ellis Pavilion, which is where the pregame Q&A will be held.
You will, of course, need your ticket to get into the stadium through that entrance. Remember, you must bring the tickets that you bought through the site and were emailed to you as a PDF – you should see the special USSMariner marking on them, which will allow you entrance into the Q&A. Without those, we won’t be able to let you into the pre-game event, as we are going to have a full house.
After the Q&A, we’ll all wander up to our seats to enjoy the game against the Rays. Should be a fun time.
If you purchased tickets to the event and now will not be able to attend, please leave a note in the comments thread below with ways for people to get a hold of you. There is definite interest from a good number of people who weren’t able to buy the tickets before we sold out, so you won’t have any trouble unloading them, and you’ll help someone else attend as well.
See you guys on Saturday.

I’m assuming everyone’s ticket is an e-ticket? My purchase came with a PDF of the tickets that I need to print.
Right – the tickets are print-at-home.
I have an e-ticket that I printed out for the game, but I don’t have anything separate for the event.
Did I miss something?
Oops–just realized that my ticket says USS Mariner on the bottom. Maybe you could make that clear in an update to the main post, just for people like myself who are spacey and don’t notice what’s written on their tickets
I’m unable to attend, but I would be interested if someone could ask about the policy on saves – at the library they said that no one in the minors would have the role of “Saver” on the team. That save opportunities would be distributed around because relief pitchers called up usually need to go more than one inning.
But looking at our minor league teams (Messenger in Tacoma has 21 saves, Flores in Clinton 18, Cooper in Everett 7), it appears that this has obviously been re-thought. I wonder why.
If by the unfortunate circumstance anyone is unable to attend, I will purchase your ticket. Or if anyone can’t make the pre-game meeting I’ll purchase that part. Most likely buying alternate ticket to game and exchanging. Whatever works best for you.

I have one extra ticket.

Title: USSM TICKET
I thought that it was that it was to start the season, so that the relievers all got innings in …
Anybody going from Vancouver, BC?
You know, I’m sure there are a bunch of people like me who won’t be able to attend but have questions we’d love to suggest (just in case, you know, the folks who are there run out of questions of their own). In fact, even for people who plan on going, it might be useful to have a discussion of potential questions beforehand to make optimal use of the time available for Q&A. The best or at least most interesting queries could even get asked by Dave/DMZ to get the ball rolling.
Would this be the appropriate thread for that, or will another one be provided for that purpose closer to the day?
You might be right.
My recollection of their thinking was that in the event of an injury to the Mariner saves guy (Aardsma), they might call up the Tacoma saves guy (Messenger in this case) but probably not to immediately take over Aardsma’s role. Messenger would probably be pitching earlier in the game and for more than one inning in low pressure situations to get some major league experience. And if he was always pitching only 1 inning at Tacoma, they might need to stretch him out gradually so he could pitch longer in Seattle. By not having a 1 inning specialist – they could avoid this “stretching him out” period.
The same would hold true for lower minor league relief pitchers where save specialization probably isn’t really necessary.
It made sense to me at the time – but I see that it’s not how they’re using their relief pitchers this year. But again, I could have been confused about what they were saying.
Thanks again for putting this together. I am really looking forward to it. Any chance of a “preview” as to which member(s) of the front office might be in attendance?
Sorry, you can ignore my last post. I just looked at the comments from the original announcement, in which Dave had this to say:
“To preemptively answer the questions about who the “M’s Front Office†is that will be joining us, we’re avoiding making any promises that Zduriencik will be there because a GMs schedule is always in flux. Tony Blengino is confirmed for the event, and while everyone hopes that Jack will be able to make it, do not buy a ticket for the event and then get mad at us if he can’t stop by. Odds are pretty good he’ll be there, but we can’t make any promises.
Those of you who attended the event at the library know that he does a pretty good of making it up to us when he can’t make it, though. Everyone’s hopeful he’ll be there, but it’s going to be a good time regardless.”
even if you’re not going, you could always hit the donate button.
Total panic set in when I went to my mail folder to look for the email with the pdf in it and I couldn’t find it. Then I refreshed the folder and there it is. The two tickets are now printed and in a safe place. See you all at the Safe on Saturday.
Don’t forget your Sims hats!
My mother-in-law passed away, so I will be unable to attend. I have two tickets. First to email me that they want the tickets and can paypal me the $50 I spent has ’em.
I’ll reply to the first person back, but won’t be able to mail all responders as this morning is the funeral service.

Hey Pat-
I emailed you about those tickets. Sorry about your mother in law. 🙁
Anyone else, let me know if you’ve got a couple of tix, just in case Pat’s already got sold.
Thanks!

Anybody who has tickets available to this weekends event and can’t attend please e-mail me. You will be compensated handsomely! I’ve had tickets to that game for months with my half-season plan, but missed the original post about it here on USSM.

I’d really like to get my greedy paws on two tickets, if anyone’s trying to dish ’em. Let me know and I’ll snatch em right up.

I will trade two Sunday tickets for two USSM Saturday tickets.
My Sunday tickets are among the best of the View Box seats: Section 334, Row 4, on the aisle. Only a few steps to the section entrance tunnel, so you can beat the rush for between-inning refreshment and rest room trips. These cost $30/seat walk-up, if you can even get them.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, though I can virtually guarantee I will have no smart stathead questions to ask. (Nor am I likely to have a Sims hat, really. Unless msb brings me one.)
After some decent amount of time agonizing over great choices in life, my son opted for the Phish concert at the Gorge rather than the USSM crew, a mystery guest or 2, and a ball game from the bleachers. If anyone would like a ticket, email me at jon.kroman&gmail.com.
Short notice, but I will no longer be able to attend the event…I just got back from Europe and am instead having a gathering with friends I haven’t seen for awhile on Saturday. It’s the first event I’ll have missed in awhile…
Anyway, I’m not sure how to give up my spot. If no one can take it from me, I have no problem just taking the loss, since USSM deserves money. 😮
