Game 107, Mariners at Royals

Washburn 2 vs Davies. Can he out-perform Washburn 1? Shouldn’t be hard.
Bedard’s going badly, per Baker.
No lineups yet, which is annoying.

So much for the six run lead. What is this man doing on a major league roster?
You could also ask why Beltre is batting 5th when, as bad as Griffey has been, Beltre has been slightly worse offensively this year. And of course Beltre is likely to be awful for the next week or so while he gets his timing back anyways. Gutie should be ahead of both of them.
I’m just amazed he got to first before three different guys could throw him out.
Baker gold:
This game has slowed down so much with Batista in.
Would it be considered rude if I showed up on Saturday with a “Please DFA Beltre” t-shirt?
Yes.
Ack, I meant Batista. Batista. Not Beltre. Never Beltre. God, I miss edit.
Batista…gotta love that “watching paint dry” excitement.
In that case, no.
Red Sox lost, Angels now down 6-1, Rangers down 2-0. La la la.
Well, Lauren is here, and so’s Yuni….
I guess Batista was just going to wait for everyone to fall asleep, then he’d sneak off the mound back to his hotel room.
I believe you might even be met with open arms should you wear the amended shirt.
Dave made a good argument before the season that the Mariners should just cut Batista loose. It’s now August and he is below replacement level. Are we still hoping that someone is going to take him off our hands?
What’s the scoring there? 1B FC?
I kinda dig our new little shortstop.
Jack Z is hoping to put off having to run to 7-11 for a six pack.
Angels lost. *blissful sigh*
That was some wild baserunning and throwing there. I thought the Royals were going to get a baserunner at second, nope, then at the plate, nope, then at third, nope!
Laugh out loud funny.
“Are we still hoping that someone is going to take him off our hands”
Well, he’ll probably clear waivers and JZ did manage to get something for Yuni so… 😉
HAHA What the hell is the guy behind home plate rubbing his belly for! HAHAHA
Batista and now Garrett Olson?
Yikes, we’re going to need all these runs!
This might be the only game for awhile that we’re winning by more than 2 runs. Gotta get those guys innings.
Hannahan at short!
Intriguing!
Hannahan in as the SS!
And of course the ball finds him and goes on by.
Ugh to Garrett Olson.
Any general manager who claimed Miguel Batista off waivers would immediately be institutionalized. “Probably”????
Batista is bad, but Yuni is waaaaayyyyy worse.
We used to have a shortstop who couldn’t make that play.
What the heck is Olson doing out there???
AEEII!!
Yuniesky Betancourt is the last hope for the Royals.
Hahahahahaha, that’s a good one.
What the heck is Lowe doing warming up with the game won?
ok Yuni…this is when you swing at anything, no matter how far outside the strike zone it is…
We used to have a guy who batted like that.
Oh. It’s over. How anti-climatic.
Only 8 back everyone! 😉
…or you could just stare at them as they zip past you…that worked too…
But what happened to the cat?
He’s pitching on Friday.
“Only 8 back everyone!”
6.5 out of the wild card and it looks like it’s going to be 3.5 back from Texas. Would be nice to finish second (or obviously have the odds go out the window and see the Halos tank and the M’s take the division ;-)). But I’d settle for 2nd and that one just might be do-able.
Classic Niehaus quote tonight:
“Whoa look at that……A Squirell,…..no, that’s a CAT”
Small sample size of course, but Betancourt is now at 154/176/277 since the trade (70 plate appearances). I hoped the the trade might clear his head, but it looks like he’s two months away from being out of major league baseball.
“I hoped the the trade might clear his head”
He was too far gone to just flip a switch and have everything turn around for him. They are working with him on having an actual approach at the plate and he’s buying into it now (he see’s the writing on the wall finally). And supposedly he’s being diligent about putting in extra work both defensively and offensively off the field. However, he can’t change overnight.
Best case scenario for him is to keep putting in a lot of work for the rest of the season then go down to winter ball (if he can, given visa issues with being a Cuban defector and all; not sure what his residency papers look like and all that), then keep working on stuff there, then hope he has a good spring training and he can re-claim some of his former defensive prowess. They aren’t going to just cut him loose given the money owed, so he’ll get his chances. Assuming he puts in the work, he has at least a chance of salvaging his career.
Our offense looks a thousand times better on paper now with Beltre back and Wilson for Cedeno. We might be able to make a run at this thing, though I would like for Wak to find a way to get Hannahan consistant playing time since he was just getting hot as Beltre came back.
