Game 141, Mariners at Angels

RRS v Lackey. Avoiding a sweep would be nice, if only for the sake of dignity as they travel to Texas to face the Rangers. It’s a tough stretch to watch for me, the M’s facing a sure playoff entrant, being severely beat up, looking forward to a series in Texas this weekend and hoping they can avoid pushing the Rangers up to a neck-and-neck race with the Red Sox.
Or, to take a step back, I want the M’s to finish with 81 wins or more. It’d be nice to get one of those nine from the Angels.

It’s all up to you, Hyphen!
Ew. Is it me, or does Kruger have more grease than normal on his hair tonight?
Just got my iPhone. Site looks so much better than it did on my blackjack.
And uh, go Ms.
“It makes sense considering that Safeco Field can drain all power from any hitter. “
I put a fiver down on the M’s today. Last season I was betting against them- not even my heart could make me lose that much money. It feels good to win a few now and again.
THANK YOU new management.
My computer support folks installed Vista on my computer today. Now I can longer even “watch” the games via MLB Gameday. I can only follow games by reading the intonation of USS Mariner posts. This should prove to be an interesting challenge.
We’ll try to keep you up to date, Dirk. A double by Hall. Whoo!
Is it Gameday specifically, Dirk, or any game watching interface? There’s Gamechannel off of Yahoo’s Scores and Schedule’s page. At the worse, they have a little diamond on there that updates every couple of seconds with the pitcher/batter, score, runners.
Apparently I need the newest version of Flash which either didn’t come w/ Vista or something. Basically, an administartor has to install it becuase they are worried about us worker bees installing porn. I can still keep track of the score via the play-by-play on ESPN but I can’t get realtime updates. No worries…
dirk, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH to download the Flash player and you are going to be fine.
I’m sick of seeing Bill Hall eat into Saunders’ playing time. Put him out there and let him turn his slump around. I really like Bill Hall, but I already know what he’s capable of.
Boundary Bay “Lightner” and Maritime Old Seattle Lager.
Hopefully my fingers can find the keys to ask– good pitching by Lackey or the crap offense we know and loathe?
The hitters do not look good. Someone gets a hit and then stews out there until the burner’s turned off and they take the field again.
Are we going to score three runs in this game?
Probably not a record but 2 Double plays for each team through 4 1/2 seems high.
I’ve obsessed about it in every game, but my god, the Figgins love!
You’d think this guy was A-rod the way they’re going on and on about his free agency! Who cares!?
juneau: Apparently, the broadcast crew cares. And that’s enough for them to dither on about him ad nauseum…
I’m getting tired of the LAAoA team. Sure, they may lose Guerrero after this year, but he’s not contributing that much. The guys that are really helping are around for a while:
Hunter’s through 2012
Morales is signed through next season.
Rivera’s through 2011.
Aybar’s in his arb years
Napoli’s stuck in his arb years
Figgins escapes arb, I believe. Lackey’s a free agnet, but they’ve got Weaver for a while yet. And then there’s the farm system…
Grrrrr.
Their winning is all due to Scioscia, you know.
Rainiers are up 3-1 in the 4th. Follow MiLB GameDay here.
I thought it was even more specific: Scioscia encouraging players to take the extra base and put the game in motion.
Maybe when Socia got radiation poisoning when he worked for Mr. Burns he got the super power “inspire grit”
pfft. Silly me.
I just need to keep reminding myself that Figgins is a Scrappy White Guy who’s just not white, thus the love from broadcasters. He has the intangibles, he does everything right, he knows how to play the game, his uniform is dirty! If it was Willie Bloomquist, I wouldn’t even question why they talk about him so much.
I just pray he goes to some team like the Astros so I don’t to be annoyed again.
Ah yes…looking sooooooo forward to those several more illustrious years of watching LAA’s stud lineup beat up on other teams just enough to win the division — only to choke in the first round of the playoffs, as usual.
The most overrated current “dynasty” in baseball.
And according to ESPN they are the Top sports Franchise of 2009.
Uggh.
5 ALDS in the current run, 2 wins, one going on to win the World Series. That’s not so bad.
No argument here. I still don’t like ’em though.
3-0, it’s out of reach!
Uggh indeed. It sounds as if they tried their list on what they thought was legitimate criteria…however, judging by where some of those teams are ranked, one wonders what they were smoking when they put the list together.
I had that same thought.
True, Derek…and to be fair, their fans at least have had a championship to celebrate during that stretch. However, it seems like they’re almost morphing into 2002-05 Atlanta Braves post-season mode these days.
The current M’s look like they don’t plan on scoring again this decade.
In which case, the M’s may be morphing into the Atlanta Braves as well — the late-80’s version, that is!
To quote Comic book guy… “worst week ever”
At least the Rainiers are winning 5-1 now.
It has been quite a “honk-shoe” of a sleepy week to say the least.
Just back from the game. Reasonable performance from RRS and Kelley, some snappy glovework here and there, Mike Carp played John’s Lackey, an OC crowd unable to muster much enthusiasm on a perfect evening. Then again, as bad as the top of the Mariner order looked tonight, the game seemed to be LAA’s as soon as Torii’s bat touched ball. Bill Hall may not need the time, but he made the best play in the outfield and had three of the handful of hits.
Ichiro seems particularly unproductive this week as the media descends upon him. I had harbored hopes of witnessing hit no. 200, but he wasn’t really close to getting aboard tonight. A washout of a series. Let Brandon’s upstairs/downstairs drama continue in Texas.
It will be a nice test of the “stats for a pitcher in a single season against a team are meaningless” meme. Brandon has been Texas’s bitch all season.
Heh…. Brandon will either get lit up or he will surprise us all and shut them down. I’m leaning towards getting lit up myself.
Do the M’s lead the league in giving up complete games to the opposing pitcher?
I’m getting tired of the LAAoA team. Sure, they may lose Guerrero after this year, but he’s not contributing that much. The guys that are really helping are around for a while:
The really annoying part is they have 40 mil coming off their payroll and an owner willing to spend money.
