Attention Mr. Hall

Dave · September 18, 2009 at 8:56 pm · Filed Under Mariners

If you can’t be bothered* to run at the minimum effort level that could be provided by a nine year old, go do something else for a living. I’m a pretty forgiving person, but you’re quickly wearing out your welcome with the ridiculous displays of loafing.

Run. It’s not that hard.

*I know he has a strained quad, but that fly ball was hardly an isolated incident. That was just the latest example of Bill Hall exerting about 10% effort on a play.

Bill Hall left tuesday’s game with a cramp in his quad, I don’t think that he is 100% yet.

That wasn’t a guy protecting an injury.

When we have two top flight defensive left fielders on the bench it makes it even harder to watch.

    Damn Ichiro.

  4. Kazinski on September 18th, 2009 9:11 pm

    I should clarify that:

    Damn, Ichiro.

Why is he even out there if he can’t even barely jog in the outfield. Saunders, anyone?

Bill Hall becoming the new Yuni with all the laziness?

You should also make a comment stating that when your position is called “catcher” catching the freakin ball should be the main part of your job description. Without rob’s passed ball this would still be a tie ballgame.

But who cares about any of that. Best game of the year!

Well, it sure seems like he’s babying some sort of leg injury. But if it’s that serious, why don’t they give Langerhans some PT if they’re going to blow off Saunders. With it being 40-man September, there’s no reason for him to play like that whether or not he has an injury.

While it might be true that he’s hobbling his way through a leg injury, wouldn’t it make more sense in that case to play one of your other options (i.e. Langerhans, Saunders) instead? Honestly, my reaction to that (non-)play when I saw it was “WTF — is this shades of Raul all over again?”

On one of the recent pre-game shows, Drayer was asking Hall about his tattoos. She asked him about the tats of his five heros, and who they were. I’m pretty sure he named himself in that group. Anyone else hear that? I’m really hoping I misunderstood. It seems a little, uh, Canseco-ish.

Bill Hall is fast becoming the new Mr. Strikeout or is that Mr. Golden Sombreo.

Actually the golden sombrero last night went to Hannahan.

Why is Ken Griffy Junior not starting over Bill Hall in LF if he can’t run either? At least we can reminisce about the great catches he would make when he played CF, and he would show effort. Bill Hall is just not worth our time.

I don’t know that I can ever recall Raul Ibanez dogging it in the field. Missing plays, yes, but that’s just because he’s a crappy fielder.

This will likely get me banned for life, but….

That wasn’t a guy protecting an injury.

…and you’re Hall’s personal physician….or perhaps you’re his conscience? I’m going to go with…he’s limping around so he probably has an injury of some sort and is at less than 100%. I might question his decision because it looked like he could have made it to the ball based on the observation that he made it to one that looked like a similar distance a little later, but I don’t know enough to question his motive nor his motivation.

I do find it somewhat hypocritical that if Ichiro were to make a similar play, he would just be preserving himself for some spectacular later play or metering himself to preserve his body for playing an injury-free 162 game season.

BTW – My guess would be that Bill Hall is STILL in the lineup because the front office doesn’t believe his abiltiy to hit for contact is related to his hurt quad and they want to see if his terrible contact rate improves with more at bats. The answer would appear to be “no”, and I don’t expect to see him in an M’s uniform next year no matter how cheaply they aquired him.

You find it hypocritical that in a hypothetical situation you invented, Dave had a reaction you disagree with.

    Wow.
