Game 155, Mariners at Blue Jays

East Coast day game means an early morning start, for anyone still paying attention. Snell v. Purcey in what could be a walk-a-thon. Nothing like last night’s matchup, for sure.
RF-L Ichiro
CF-R Gutierrez
1B-R Lopez
DH-R Sweeney
DL-R Hall
3B-L Hannahan
2B-R Tuiasosopo
C-R Moore
SS-R Josh

Crazy catch by Jose Bautista to rob Hannahan.
There goes that Mariner aggressivenessagain.
Yet another inning run out of.
Another nice play by Tui! Don’t think he’ll stick there, but he’s impressed me at 2B so far.
Wow. Ichiro gets tossed on a terrible call. First Mariner player tossed out of a game this season.
Ichiro! tossed? Now I can say I’ve truly seen everything.
They had a nice shot of Junior getting warmed up to play in right field. He’s jogging in the dugout, got out a glove and blew on it like it was dusty. Smiles all around.
Has Ichiro ever been tossed out of a game before?
I hope someone interviews Ichiro after the game. That has potential to contain the most amazing quote(s) ever.
Gameday actually doesn’t think the pitch was that bad. Close enough that I’m surprised Ichiro took it with two strikes on him.
Sweeney has the 4th best OBP on the team. Third if you don’t count Carp.
What I wouldn’t give to hear the exchange between Ichiro and the ump. Well, maybe $3.50.
It surely has been a year of firsts for Ichiro.
OK, we’ve had the bases loaded three innings in a row and came away with only one run?
What’s with the ‘point at where the ball was’ and get tossed rule? Apparently everybody knows that rule but me.
Arguing balls and strikes is considered sufficient for an ejection by itself, although in practice quite a bit of complaining is tolerated. Still you’re better off with an innocent-sounding “Where was that?” than telling the umpire he was wrong with “Hey, that was outside.” And visibly showing up the umpire, such as by pointing to exactly where you thought it was, will earn an ejection in almost all circumstances.
Well at least Snell pitched a nice game today…um…bad bullpen! Bad!
The replay on the Mariners website show the catcher setting up outside and then framing the pitch back into the strike zone. Ichiro’s pointing looks pretty accurate. Of course he was going to get rung up, but he’s had a lot of weird strike calls this year and I suspect he just had had enough.
You be the judge.
